I don't "tried" to do a certain kind of shading, i just tried to shade it like the light comes from front/above.
he mentioned that because a light source and shading style are two different things. And your sprite's shading style is inconsistent. That's why he said he "thinks" keyword being thinks, as in his opinion. I'd have to agree with him on the too. Not on the shading structure you were going for, but the inconsistencies in following it.

I would have continued with the other style of shading if I were you and expanded it more.For the arm and hand, look at the last one in the first row, that's how I would've done those. Then I continued editing, but that's just for me. I haven't finished editing yet.I gave him a neck for personal preference and edited the legs, but in the last edits.
