What I'm wondering right now the most is what's the resolution I can get away with for animating some sprites.

I'm getting a pretty good idea now of what character I could make. So some technical help would be really useful right now.

What say if I follow the work folder that comes with mugen 1.0 and use that as a template? Though I'm hoping to do a bit better on the framerate. For example KFM 720 has a run that's 5 frames and I want to make it a 10. Will Mugen 1.0 be able handle me doubling up on the frames?

Also I noticed looking at the Mugen Yuna that there seems to be some dithering. What's the color palette Mugen 1.0 works in?

Edit:
I'm beginning to notice I'm not very good at translating palettes. I wonder if I made a highres set of png's would the talented people here be able to translate that into an SFFs?

  • Getting back to work on MUGEN
If you made anything from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, I would cry tears of joy.

It should be able to handle more frames as long as the coding works with it.

Yeah, Mugen running at 60 fps, it should have no problems having 10 frames for a stance. Didn't SF3 have that already anyway.

And if you could sprite in HD, for 720p res, that would be wonderful. :)

Hey monty! Nice to see you here. I responded to you on your deviantArt (kurotoboe) and I was gonna reccommend you to this place. But you're thinking ahead as always. But a lot of people here (including myself) would be willing to help.

I thought at first that you were gonna do Hootie, Emily, and your other characters from the ROAD series. But I'm willing to do it.

So I'm loving the resolution on KFM 720, but for the life of me I can't figure how to translate it to an sff. It'd probably better if someone who's done it before to handle that end. With how buisy I am the less work I have to do on the Mugen side, the more time I have to animate the characters.

If I were to make a simple folder of png's with labeled sequences, pretty much similar to the kfm 720 in the work folder. Would anyone else be willing to translate that into an sff?

That would be perfect for most coders.

I gotcha. But you should look into this program called Fighter Factory from VirtualTek. You can import all the sprites (must be in .pcx format) and then save it as a .sff file. By the way, I have nothing to do right now besides school. I really want to do this!!!

If he doesnt want to take the time to learn how to compile sffs, he shouldnt, that way he can dedicate more of his time to animating.
Anyone willing to code ( and i bet that there would be quite some people willing to) can sff it up easily , since they have practiced it before.

I did indeed get the ffu app. It looks really handy and I'd love to llearn how to use it. It let me import a png file, but then it was all screwed up. Lemme try the pcx format you mentioned, but yea I'm sure theres someone here who can do it better.

I understand that. But me and Monty are kinda the same, we don't mind help, but we also don't mind learning on our own so we can have more experience under our belts.

And also, is it me, or are the online doujin fighting games beginning to rise? (MUGEN, Akatsuki Blitkampf, Big Bang Beat, Vanguard Princess, etc.)

They're more fun to play than the commercial games.

  • Three times thicker font than a normal user.
Since when was Mugen an online doujin fighting game?

Also, personally, doujins don't have much lasting appeal for me.

Welcome Monty. Fan of your work (although I had my problems with 3 and 5).

I didn't mean MUGEN, but I just meant basically fighting games that aren't sold for profit.

Also I noticed looking at the Mugen Yuna that there seems to be some dithering. What's the color palette Mugen 1.0 works in?

256 colors, including background color. SFF-wise it's been possible for a few years to use files in the actual character that don't share the "main" palette (the one that can be changed for player 2, for example), which is handy for extra effects that are meant to always keep their colors, like say, a character's projectile or special effects added to his moves.

BTW, if you're working with PNG, while previously the SFF was built from PCX files, in the latest versions since Elecbyte returned, PNG can also be used.

BTW, I guess I should have known existing 3D characters were more likely... Heihachi from Tekken in the black outfit would be nice, but the working at Namco thing kinda jeopardizes this, I guess...

I was wondering when you'd show up again...
You kinda vanished after making a few posts back at RandomSelect.

Important note: You can't use alpha transparency.  Clean edges are still a must-have.

I think providing PNG files is still the best solution, rather than an already compiled SFF. Each creator has his own habits when it comes to organizing an SFF, with various group numbers and all, and people have various ways of handling palettes.
My 2 cents.

Anyway, if you still wanna do the job yourself, you'll have to apply an identical palette to all of your sprites before turning them into PCX, setting the last color of the palette as the transparent one (use shiny pink or green for this color).

Sh*t...

The first animation I saw from montyoum was Haloid. And he knows Reuben Kee too?
What should I say... M.U.G.E.N got many Highlights this year.

And this NMH Travis looks very nice to me! Are these Characters the one you will create?
Hope someone would create him. (Bloody Special Attacks FTW)

I'm looking forward to the results.  :)
