I just came across this today in the form of a YouTube video of what seemed like a release called Mugen Tournament 3. I decided to download it thinking it was some sort of stand alone thing. I loaded it up and to my dismay, the fighter select screen was not on screen. I quickly ran to Google at an attempt to fix it. I stumbled across a Mugen wiki and learned that it was not its own game and it was an ongoing project. I was instantly hooked. Like I have already read, my eyes did indeed lit up instantly and I thought the whole fighting game universe was handed to me. After the initial shock wore off, I decided to investigate a little further because I'm a bit skeptical when it comes to things that seem way to good to be true. I went off and obtained my copy of Mugen 1.0 and installed it. As I read the opening dialog I understood it pretty quickly knowing some general programming and playing with MAME incessantly. I recognized this immediately as something that I could lose quite a bit of time to as I have in the past with similar, less involved, less advanced programs. I found my way to these forums, knowing full well it's always nice to have a helping hand when you need it when it comes to these type of things. Instead of being my normal lurker self, I decided I should just jump in for real. I'm excited to join this community, and after reading a few posts already I believe I'm on the right track so far. I don't plan on releasing anything, I have no grand plans. I have a hope of bringing a select few of my favorite characters over, and polishing them until they are perfectly "mine". Of course, grabbing a slew of punching bags for them wouldn't be such a bad idea, heh. I look forward to learning about this possible new obsession.
