Hey guys. I've just a few questions about the moderation on this website. :)

First off:
I think you guys do a great job running the place, and everything is neatly categorize. (doubtful that was the mods doing, but its a beautiful design still)

I'll start by introducing myself. My names Alexander, but I go by alex most of the time. I grew up in fall church in virginia, but I live in houston Texas. I came to this site s couple times in the passed from clicking links, youtube, or whatever else. I only just join alittle while ago thanks to a friend of mine. He told me it was an interesting place to meet talented artist, mugen developers, and things along those lines. I've enjoyed allot of what Ive seen & read on here, so my question to you guys on staff is how do i go about joining the moderation group? I can't say I really know much about how thinks work still. However I'm willing to learn whatever you can offer. It seems like fun, so that's part of my interest. :)

So overall. If you guys are interested, just get back to me and let me know what i should do to go about helping out. :)

For now no new staff members are being recruited. Also.. since you're new your chances of being part of the staff are really low.. you can't really show up to a forum and ask to be staff right away, it takes time.

You can“t expect to get Gmod status with just presenting yourself and with being a pretty recent member of the website. In which particular way can you help?? Why you want it?? This type of stuff takes time.

Thanks for the import guys. Its mostly curiosity. I can't say I can offer much. However I'm willing to learn what's needed. Although Sense they're not looking to recruit, I'll just continue to enjoy the forums until then. :)

By contributing or maybe by having quite a few years on a forum could probably make you a MOD, asking to be one is not the way to go but instead the opposite, take care and enjoy the forum.

You become a moderator because people in the team feel you're ready for it. The best way to NOT become a moderator is ask. If you ask you basically disqualify yourself.

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.

Being staff means you have to answer at least 100 personal messages a week about stuff that is pretty straightforward to normal people. It means you will have to move topics into the right sections, answer reports, and get criticized and become hated by everyone you ever take action against, and even people of whom you've never even heard. People will make sure to tell you how horrible you are, you will become a part of the staff and, thus, part of Youtube videos and forum posts that insult you like you're nothing but a piece of dirty white clothe in a gutter in the ghetto on a hot, humid, sticky rainy, summer day.

People will send you messages that say "fuck you." People will say you're a power abuser. People will try to annoy you and turn everyone against you to make you feel like you've got no reason left to live. You might even be drawn to be a cynical bastard with suicidal tendencies.

You can do just as fine as a normal member by setting an example with your posts, not being confrontational (like staff has to be sometimes), and generally being a positive figure. Staff duties are janitorial duties at best, and being a staff member will take some amounts of focus you have on your hobby and direct it towards being a pseudo-sociologist, pseudo-psychologist, pseudo-judge, pseudo-lawyer, a pseudo-psychic, and a pseudo-asinine-prick.

Er Soknas, were you the friend who recommended the forum to him? It kind of seems like you know him since you're not one to post in threads like this.

There's no bonus to becoming staff, unless you thinks it's fun to have all of the stuff from my post above inflicted upon yourself. And free time is not a huge factor because staff is usually composed of people from different time zones. Moderators will usually be on during the night time/early morning of their time zone -- and during other speckles of the day due to mobile devices or work computers.

Mod at CSX from 2009 to 2010, admin from 2010 to 2012, resigned around the end of 2012/start of 2013 because I lacked any interest in continuing.
