A silly question, but I think its interesting to ask.

There are plenty of interesting handles, or usernames, that Guild provides. Phantom of the Server, Cyanide, JMorphman and Cybaster come to mind right away. I wonder how they got their names.

Mine came to existence back when Phantasy Star Online was released for the Dreamcast. I was looking for a cool sounding Japanese name for my Yellowboze (I actually remember that!!) Samurai looking character. I consulted my dictionary, and I saw "Saikoro."

Little did I know that the actual term of "Die" meant game dice and not death, according to a bilingual fellow in an international ship. And that's where my handle of 12 years stuck: a Japanese word that means game dice for a gamer handle. The rest is history.

Anyone else have a backstory to their Guild/Mugen handle??
All of your Mugen Portrait needs may be found HERE.

I'd like to report two robots on the MFG forums: One is EXShadow. The other is Saikoro.

Got my current one from said character from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run.

Our forum names, huh?  Well, mine came from back when Diablo II came out, and I needed something to go by.  Ended up going through the family library for something that would stand out.  Came across "Long John Silver" somewhere among the books.

But, that was already taken, so just made a quick change from silver to killer.  Some years later, someone suggested adding the extra letters for......not sure what reason.  I think it was to bug those who rush to get their username spelt right before someone else takes it, or something like that.  Anyways, it stuck.

So that's how I got my name not related to any fast food restaurant or self-impossed title of being a murderer of winter-time undergarments.

Well, mine actually came from my YouTube account, which was pure randomness.

I only added "Wonderful" to my name because I'm good with music.

I'm pretty terrible when it comes to making up usernames. :P

so i searched up some tips to make usernames, one of the tips was to make a simple, and easy-to-remember username, the first one i came up with was slacker432, it was a nasty start for me (posting necros, REALLY dumb posts, a lot of requests, etc.) lol.

Then, For some reason, i left the forums for a long period of time. when i came back, i wanted to "re-introduce" my more mature self. Still following the tips i read long ago, I just came up with "Froz" because i liked it and it wasn't too complex like most usernames at that time.

Mine came from sheer laziness! Back in 2007 most of the good gamer tags were taken on XBL so I just decided to run with my first name backwards and added my birth year.

I guess the best way to not have a bad name is avoid CAPS, numbers, and obvious franchise references. MARIO/SONICFAN13 for example.

TBH, I usually make up random usernames myself. This username here is one of them. What I do to create them is grab a random word or more, then add numbers to it & what not (like almost everyone does). So when I thought of a username, I chose to come up with this one, Hurricane2s.

But from now on, I will use this username probably about everywhere on the internet.

BTW, if you haven't noticed, you can call me H2s for short. If you want to though.

I came up with it on the spot when I registered at MI back in August 2007. I thought it was "badass" at the time (it's a fusion of Orochi from KoF97 and Gill from SF3, I even had a recolored Gill av to go with it, which I use on YT). It's a silly name, but it stuck. :laugh2:

As for "PerryMason123", I actually took the name from the Ozzy Osbourne song. At the time I was a roster video kid, but when I switched to actual mugen videos in 2008, I figured it would be easier to just wipe that account clean than make a new one. The numbers are there because just "PerryMason" was taken.

For "ToxicOrochi" (the links in my sig will reveal why I mention this), it's a portmanteau of two names I usually use, "The Toxic Avenger" (Toxic...)  and this one (...Orochi). I use that name for things that are multi-community.

JMorphman
Only the J is capitalized.

But anyway it comes from my first name + morph which is from Animorphs because it was my favorite book series when I made this username all the way back in 1999 or so. And then man for some reason? I dunno, my sister helped come up with it.

and actually, Animorphs is still my favorite book series. >:[

Maybe, but it is at least 2 months old.

Anyway, my handle is created at least 10 years ago by taking my name, removing all of the vowels, and adding random letters here and there. The three numbers were there to spice things up...

A lot of things I name or title are words or sentences that wander into my mind as I do the naming/titling. My MUGEN community handle is no exception. My current display name on this forum is what that Japanese MUGEN release blog refered to me as when C. Evil Ryu was released thanks to Adamlexus being a little naughty with the .def file while making the AI for C. Evil Ryu.

I'm also under the impression that people keep neglecting data from the game, do you guys know how PotS made his original characters? He actually studied every single game he referenced, down to the core. Doing this properly requires understanding how the original system was made, not just winging it.

Before I found my current name, I was always running through names trying to find one that I could live with.

JingTheKingOfBandits, Allen, Hayate, tearoppai, Soldier, etc.
That's when I heard news of a new Final Fantasy game. Final Fantasy Crystalis something whatever (FFXIII, Versus XIII, and Type-0).
The name of the protagonist from Versus XIII just struck me as "cool as fuck". Not only did it sound awesome, but it was Latin and the meaning of the word "Noctis" was perfect since I'm a nighttime kind of guy. So about 2-3 years back, I changed it to Noctis and kept it so ever since.
About a year ago I found a new game with a protagonist who's name was even more "cool as fuck", but I couldn't change my name again since I felt everyone had acknowledged me as "Noctis". Hence my kick ass motto and my current avatar of the blonde-haired Thoma.

My usernames' pretty simple to understand.

True:  I like to describe myself as an honest and honorable guy.  Hence why the word "true" is in all caps.
Micah:  A character I created when I was young.

I sometimes add "Virtuous" onto my username also.

I had a really shitty username that I thought up when I was 12 and made flash videos and websites.

Then I wanted to start fresh and wanted a simple and short username that seemed friendly, Pal was the only thing that came into my mind and surprisingly it's almost never taken. Variations include: PalInd, Pal_Ind, PalX, SuperPal, SuperPalX.

It stuck ever since and I've thought about changing it but I always go back to this one because I can't come up with something better. The only downside is that I think some porn artist also goes by the nick "Pal" but meh, I doubt he uses weeaboo avatars or fags about obscure JRPGs.

  • Shakespear.
My name comes from an old email account I created about 10 years ago.  It was supposed to be a funny description of my computer.  Robot (It's a machine) Monkey(As in a humorous description of people) Head (in that it mimics a brain and is basically purely cerebral) Another way to understand RobotMonkeyHead would be MechanicalHumanBrain.  It's a low flying comment on the fact the there really is no direct human to human interaction with computers, so what is being perceived as 'me' is actually just my computer.
So there you have it.

Then I found this.  It was released about 4 years after I made that email handle. I still actually have it, but pretty much never use it.

Haha, well honestly, my username came about it's existence when I was role playing on the website known as GaiaOnline.com a couple years back. I had a Role Playing Character Profile by the name of Navana Hallow, and she was the most well-known character that I made to all of my friends. Later on throughout the years I had nicknames and was eventually just called "Navana" everywhere I went as far as role playing went. So I use this as my username. And besides, it sounds attractive, and interesting.

I've had various usernames for various reasons

Bomberman -
During the time I was signing up for MFG, Bomberman was pretty much my favorite game series for that period of time (I have some strange thing that my favorite things tend to change alot) and considering I wasn't that creative back then that I used Bomberman as my username for a good 2 Years or so (Signed up here to announce that I was working on a Sprite swap of a Bomberman for MUGEN)

TOADUK (TO@DUK) -
Later having Bomberman for that long while, I changed my username to TOADUK (TO@DUK on another website) because I had this name for awhile on the other site (DSPlay.com if it still exists) I thought using it on here aswell incase anyone from there also came on here when the site eventually died and went out (used to be full of people playing Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing and other games too)

I'll miss those times where I could barely keep a friendlist empty on my DS.

Fapping Through A Windshield -
Based on a line the Scout says on one of my favorite Garry's Mod videos of all time "You're like a Cock in slowmotion, It's like I'm watching you FAPPIN' THROUGH A WINDSHIELD!"
Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q131mGowcJ8

GreenHill -
Based on the famous Sonic stage; Green Hill zone, was also my username on Mugen Infantry

LoliCannon -
Everyone should remember this Gimmik I had where I was pretending to be a Lolicon and that it became something so I stuck with the name for awhile.

A Secret Bro -
Titiln offered to give people random names and he gave me this one, used it for a good amount of time too.

Hyōgo (Current Username) -
I have a friend via Steam who is called "Osaka" he said I should have my name as a random Japanese city, the thing is...most of their Cities have great names so I chose the City "Hyōgo" and liked the sound of that name and it's been my username for a good few weeks now.
If I can't be the best, I sure as hell can be the worst.

Koopa Koot is a character from Paper Mario on the N64. But I played Paper Mario 2 before that. In one chapter when you are playing as Bowser, someone asks you who you are and one of the choices is Koopa Koot (the other choice is Shadow Thief, which was my old email address). Bowser is my favourite Nintendo character and him calling himself something silly was funny to me. So the name is supposed to be for Bowser and not the old Koopa from Paper Mario 1. :P

On steam I go by SuperKoopa because someone accidentally called me that over the voice chat.
Is a mess. :gonk: Needs sexy new coding to go with sexy sprites.

I use my real name because when I was growing up, I used to watch a lot of Woody Woodpecker Cartoons by Walter Lantz, and my sisters loved Walt Disney Movies, so I always liked seeing my own name on the screen.

At age 4, I started making my own clay models, so I had to memorize the human anatomy. At 5, I started making my own TMNT comics. At age 9, my own Saint Seiya Comics, and at 12 I started helping my best friend with his own Comic (which we named "Walking in the Darkness" a year after that). To be honest he was the creative one, but my drawings were infinitely better. When we parted ways at age 15, he said he was starting his own Comic, and that I could keep the characters (the main character is the guy blinking in my webpage).

I always thought that when I made it into the big league of animation, or publishing my own comic book, my name would be up there with the other 2 Great Walts. I guess I've kinda given up on that dream by now, but that's why I've always used my real name.

My nick (which not just use for MUGEN and/or the forum) comes from my favourite videogame character from all times: Basara Kubikiri from Samurai Shodown series. I adopted this nick in 1998, when it comes Samurai Shodown IV to the arcades of my city and I loved this game, I was already a fan because of the 2 first SS games (and by Gen-an, my main char in those games) but this game was my main one.

But since this character was so cool to me, later I added the "-kun" japanese sufix (that means "boy") and then Basara-kun was born. And to difference it from normal Basara, I used his SS4 Bust/Rasetsu colors (black hair, green skin, purple pants) instead the classic one as avatar and stuff. Later I made a short version of my nick, which is "B-kun" (which I signed in other parts), and later in the forums (Mugen Hispania, Guild, MI and other ones) I just used Basara as name and I changed it as last name instead just change my entire nick :P

So, if SSIV won't be made, probably my nick would be Gen-an-kun, who knows :P and no, SSIII didn't come here, just I, II and IV

ok, lets start at the begining.

tigerman122: when i was young, when my brother would play video games i would usaully wath because what esle could i do. eventually, i got accostomed to watching, but playing games auctually became more of a joy as a result. later when the internet became what it is more or less,i got an email that involved tigers because tiger are cool. my brother's usernames on sites and stuff was usally some sort of form of rookie with numbers after it. so i , being the guy i am, emulated that. it started out as tigerman334 but turned into 122 because that series of numbers was (and is) how my bro's gamertag ended(ends). it stuck for the long haul.

lazy alisa: back when MI was not a graveyard(and at the point where i was on guild), i posted there more than on here. so, since i'm one of the few who like alisa(combined with the fact that i'm slothfully lazy), lazy alisa became a reality. then there was a period of time where i left, came back, sig was too big, changed it, the  end.

helena douglas: i'm a huge d.o.a fan and helena is my main, so thats it. no real creativty there.

yurika kirishima: yurika by fervicante just came out. pretty much it,.

moop(current[at least here and mi{cept mi is dead}]):because moop baby! once again, no real creativity.

Eh, I'm gonna post it once again how I came up with my name:

Spuddyman95: I came up with that name since I love potato chips and french fries that involve with potatos and can't find a good generic animu/title of video game character when I was about to sign up for MFG, so there.

K' Error: That name I came up during MI in summer 2010, I fused the name K' (my favourite character) and Error (Ermac from Mortal Kombat, because I heard rumours about his real full name, Error Macro), but now, sometimes I go by the name, Error or some shit.

Wank Yihoo: You guessed it, my favourite childhood gameshow host of Uh Oh! His name was originally Wink Yahoo, then I decided to change up his vowels and make it somewhat a parody. You'll see this name not that often on the MUGEN forums.

GLB

It was originally started by Tamez. He was dating my sister at the time (now they're married) and we both liked to play mugen. He got me into playing it, and he was more of the community/chat room visitor. When he was in PhantomG's xat chat and he talked about me he'd refer to me as "GLB" (Girlfriends lil bro). I then began learning how to create stages and when I finished my first stage I had to come up with a name to join forums with, so as a joke to the guys in the chat room, and an inside joke between Tamez and I, I made my name GLB.

Not like anyone(even me) cares but i'm bored soooooooooooooooooooooooo

after like 5 ultracrappy usernames from when i was like 8 to the time i was 12('06 i think) i made my yt acc. which would be my general username almost everywhere i went which was oblivion9794 (big kh fan and my favorite keyblade was oblivion, plus i thought it was cool considering oblivion is like darkness or some shit like that)

By 2008 i hated my name having those shitty numbers in it so when i first saw Genesis Rhapsodos, I knew what I had to do.

Gonna reuse my explanation from Cy's thread: I just wanted to poke fun at the fact that I'm awful at creating anything for Mugen. I came up with an easy-to-remember-and-type acronym (Creator of Absolutely Nothing) and voila: I'm the C.A.N. I really don't like how people always mess my name up, spelling it c.a.n. or CAN or can or something, but I still like my name.

If its story were embarrassing, I'd probably have not gone with it. C.A.N was a spur of the moment sort of thing, no real deliberation aside from wondering how witty I could possibly make it without making it ridiculous. I thought a short and sweet name would be easy to remember, but I guess it isn't easy for people to spell.

Lol C.A.N. is simple and easy to say though.. CAN :haw:

Guess I'll post mine from that thread
I recall wanting to watch an ecchi video on youtube when I was 13. As I had never used the internet before that was the only place I thought of that was free. I needed an account but I couldn't think of a name, I looked at videos to search a username, found a guy, "Yak141" and well I thought what's similar to a yak? I don't remember why I thought of an ox, but I just added an e and got the generic name of oxe161. And eventually I got used to OxeyClean.
Basically I just stole a quick name for a quick... activity... It's stupid and really embarrassing but looking back I'm pretty glad I used that as my ideas for names at that time were based on Naruto and Sonic.

Lith is based on the song "Lithium Flower" from the Ghost in the Shell SAC soundtrack as I listened to it a lot during the time I changed it, so I went with one of my favorite songs.

Name came from Kurow Kirishima of Project Justice, one of my all time favorite series and character.  Just took his last name and eventually become my alias.  Another one from different places "SolitaryGenesis" came from J-Rock band Yousei Teikoku that LaQuak introduced me to many years ago (not the song, but the genre itself and this band was one of them).  Though, the idea for that as my other alias didn't come to my mind until few years later.

That's actually a line from GameSpy's Daily Victim Archive based off of one where a college student handed in a thesis with l33t speak. I gotta look through and pull the one I'm mentioning up. There is another one about Crazy Taxi. Both are fucking hilarious.

My handle is a name I use on almost everywhere.

It used to be N64Mario84. In fact that's what my original email is.  Later I changed it to GCNMario for some reason. Whenever the community got out of control with it, they started to joke about my current handle, started saying CC-Mario instead. I eventually gave up on the routine, So now, I just go with N-Mario for everything.

On the other hand, I got my handle through my GFX Name. It used to be ShadowVector as my Graphic FX Alias(when the majority of my hobby was GFX), now I lower it to SXVector for conventional reasons. My newest forum handle comes from the Yugioh card known as Malevolent Nuzzler. The card itself is not only one of my favorites, but it surely catched my interest because of the enticing card art. In a way, the art itself and the poetry that I write more or so coincide with each other. With the poem I made within my signature, this username...and the avatar definitely fit my personality quite well....~

There should be a Saikoro plugin for Photoshop.

I have 2 more usernames to mention.

Furricane the Cybunny: I used to go on Neopets when I was like 8-11 yrs old. The Cybunny is one of the Neopets. IIRC the name Furricane, of course, rhymes with Hurricane. Then I used "fur" to fuse it with Hurricane. After that, it ended up with mentioned username, along with the Neopet name.

Mutacheek: This one is more easy than the above one. There was another Neopet which was a Kacheek. But then I saw the neopet as a mutant/zombie. This gave me the idea to fuse those names together. So basically, Kacheek + Mutant = Mutacheek.

Back when I was in middle school and too into Anime, I stumbled across a translation website and typed in darkness (cause I was so edgy  ::)).  The translator spat out a few different variations of darkness, the most interesting one to me being Makurayami, or "total darkness" according to the translator.

A few years later I added "Shinkou" to it, which is supposed to be "total" in Japanese, though using an online translator probably butchered that a bit.  Thought I needed to add another name to differentiate myself further, so Shinkou Makurayami.  I was thinking of Shinkou as a last name and Makurayami as a first name, but wrote it in the Japanese style (family name, given name).  I think I used Makurayami Shinkou in a few places as well (English-speaking way - Given Name, Surname)

And because that eventually became long and obnoxious, I went back to Makurayami.  I tend to use Mak or MakShin in a few places, though, as shortened versions of the full name.
This is how you recognize a character is polished or not : when small details are taken care of to provide the best experience possible.
