Ok so usually I build my mugen like an actual fighting game. Yes I know mugen is a fighting game! When I say actual I mean like not so many characters, not some many stages you know things like that. On top of that I usually try to stay away from screen packs that are kind of like copies for example a cvs2 screen pack or Marvel. I am curious of what you guys do when building?

I haven't really used mugen since the version before 1.0 so that's a very long time ago. So things definitely changed the community kind of died but got stronger in a way.It isn't as big but the projects and characters are way better. HD, custom portraits and all that cool stuff wasn't there before. It's nice to see how it evolved. I wish the community was bigger though.
Well, I download whatever is interesting to me, or characters I like, and plenty of characters that look like that I wouldn't like, for training mode.. Stage wise, plenty of The Pit/Portal edits, space stages, SF edits, crossover themed stages, retro stages, or more interesting looking stuff. Screenpacks? Well, I like ones that don't really represent a series, and have like 1000 spaces, as a JIC type situation. I also like lifebars that have upper and lowercase letters for whatever reason, and actually have the winner's name appear. I tend to aim big, roster wise...

idk i use a decent amount of chars but i prune my roster regularly. i use small ports and lifebars with more retro feels to them, and no custom ports either cuz i like to maintain the arcade feel you get with that stuff.i download what i like but usually i have a core group of characters i will always dl regardless of whether i play them or not because they are big parts of MUGEN for me, usually cause they were popular on my streams.i have a lot of stages and i usually find unique music tracks for each
I pair characters I like to play with or against and stages I enjoy with a screenpack that can both hold them all and is visually appealing to me.
I love compilation rosters since they allow you to mix and match styles that were never possible prior to Mugen. There's always something infinitely amazing, and fun, with pitting Ryu from SF2 against Ken from SF3 in a MvC background. It's stuff like this that keeps my love for Mugen going strong. And compilation rosters means quite a bit of portrait work. And holy shit I've been getting a lot of work done as of late.
My roster is mostly comprised of obscure and experimental characters and some of my own shitty creations. Mugenchara is my character downloading guide.I have a modified version of the default screenpack because I don't know how to install things on 1.0+. I have no stages or music.
