edited poll for options

Why not treat the stars like "title belts"? CotY winner has the star until next year's winner is chosen. CotM winner has it until next month's is chosen. I imagine it would be easier to keep track of adding/removing them that way since you're just moving one star per month and one star per year (with the exception of collabs like Cybaster/Balthazar or Chazzanova/Quickfist). As for keeping track of those who have won in the past, well, I thought that's what the Hall of Fame was for.

wouldnt this be functionally similar to the one month/one year idea?

Hmmm... how about this criteria:

All stars are permanent.

CotY: Star remains the same.

CotM: Each month has a specific color similar to birthstones.

Winners of multiple months would get something similar to a CotY star.

cute, but no

as for assigning/removing stars on schedule... what are the chances of val whipping up a mod that automatically does this

Isn't that exactly how it's done right now
And it makes the star pointless because no one ever looks at the stars and no one notices it if it lasts only a month. If it's only a month, it might as well not be there at all.

A year or forever.

Having the star forever is senseless.
The star represents the current CotM winner.  It isn't a place holder such as the contributor star.
I've noticed the star thus far for other CotM winners and I'm sure others have too.

CotY should be the only "yearly" star because like CotM, it shows the current victor of said year.

Yep that's the current system. Fell off on the CotM stars for a bit but hey it's not like I had/have enough to do around here.

Having the star forever is senseless.
The star represents the current CotM winner.
You throw away your trophies when someone else wins the same competition you participated in ten years ago ? The point of the suggestion is precisely that it shouldn't just represent the current winner (because no one notices it, which makes it completely pointless, for one). Responding to that with "but it's only for the current winner" is only self-fulfilling.

A good argument but once again:
The star represents the current CotM winner.
The star isn't meant to be kept forever.
Think of it as an Employee of the Month award:  A employee who wins this gets recognition, a hand shake and a picture with their smiling face and name on it.  That's pretty much what the CotM is.  It isn't like Nunor's star which lasts forever because he literally started the Guild.

i think that BOTH should stay because at the end of the day...u did make a winning character. So what if was last month/year. Its like the Grammys.... Lauryn Hill hasn't won a grammy in years....does that mean she still isn't a great artist. Did they take her grammy away because it was a new year. i think not.

The star is meant to be whatever we want it to be. If we want the star to be a trophy or just the same as the Contributor star, then that's what it will be. Don't say "it's not meant to be like that" when we're discussing what we want it to be from now on. I say the star should NOT be just the current CotM winner, and so do 80% of those who voted.

You do realize the results are inaccurate right?
Options were added to the poll that weren't available before.

I personally voted other because the "title belt" option wasn't available.

Yes, completely dodge the point and focus on one specific sentence that has no impact on the discussion
Not to mention there's still 70+% of people who picked the "a year" and "forever" options before the others were available. Also, your "title belt" suggestion was already there, it's "a month".

He's saying that one wasn't there when he voted.
But it was, what he wants is the "one month" option.

The options are pretty fucked up right now, mainly the first two. We're talking about two different stars, why would the COTY one last for only one month? Jesus, you only had one job! Fix the poll!

COTM for one month, COTY for one year (The way it currently works like)
COTM for one year, COTY forever
Both forever
Remove them
Other
[INAUDIBLE]

That's all you need.
pls

That was my problem, I didn't want both the CotM and CotY to last for a year!
Yes, completely dodge the point and focus on one specific sentence that has no impact on the discussion
I agreed with your most of your last post and I replied to what I disagreed with.
Also, your "title belt" suggestion was already there, it's "a month".
The month option was for both the CotM and CotY as suggested by the thread title.

You could have said so, considering you seemed to think the opposite the previous time I said the exact same thing.
The month option was for both the CotM and CotY as suggested by the thread title.
It should have been fairly obvious that the CotY star wasn't meant to last a month, considering no one even suggested that in the previous topics.

This was self explanatory.  Of course, I'm going to agree with this.
This thread is literally deciding on what we want the stars to represent as that post suggested.
Spoiler: I'm guessing you got confused here (click to see content)

It should have been fairly obvious that the CotY star wasn't meant to last a month, considering no one even suggested that in the previous topics.
This could've easily been assumed.
However, I'd much rather play it safe by voting "other" and voicing my opinion.
