Information on the game (System, Roster) and discussion.

This will be game with KOF Style gameplay with an all female cast. Most of the cast is from KOF, but there will be a few others as well.

Gameplay:

-KOF 2002 gameplay system with MAX Cancel system
-Single vs Single rounds
-5 power bars
-Juggles will be more like the later KOF games (more time to juggle) with some characters having anywhere juggle specials/desperation moves
-Attack cancel rolls will be added (something I haven't done before)
-Power Charge will NOT be included
-Some characters will have EX modes by holding start when you select them

Roster:

Final Roster will have around 20 characters. I reveal more as the game progresses (Updated 10/24/2011):

-Mai Shiranui
-Akari Ichijo
-Shiki
-Leona Heidern
-Shermie

Probably not. But if "someone" (nudge nudge wink wink) could sprite Miss X, than that would be a definate.  ;)

So, I just went ahead and informed myself a little bit. So Miss X is IORI YAGAMI dressed as a woman?
Exact same moveset, no changes?
IS THAT A HAKAMA or a long skirt?

Actually, it's a lot easier to sprite than I thought. I can post a small tutorial on how to tackle this one, if anyone offers their time.

Actually, I made that sprite edit in just a few minutes. I see eFeX did the same I did -  just sprite easy clothes over Iori ... where as people around here seemingly expect an ACTUAL FEMALE Character, which would pretty much defeat the purpose of Miss X's existence.

If I were to make some edits for this character, which I'm not saying I will, I'd sprite over Iori, to keep the nonsensical comedic effect of a badass in drag

The animation file and maybe other stuff to might be heavily salvageable, if nto the code by itself, the timingn and velocity parameters, especially when one is used to making ripped stuff because it's not that simple to come up with stuff that works.

Forgetting the fact that I can't even see WALT in picture... I'd like to have a third oppinion, because I have serious doubts about the Efex Sprite. I suggested to use it, alright, but I'm not sure why he chose those "folds" on the skirt. I think there are wrong. Misplaced.
On the other hand Walt's one it's awfully sprited, even when I admit that the general shading of the skirt is correct (Always taking Athena XI skirt as base, or Junko's skirt, but this last one it's a little different just like old Athena 97 intro school outfits)

I'd take this for reproduce the "boards" (Tables?):


Let me explain myself before having an "argument" or something... I'm interested in this project. One of my sprited chars will be here (maybe 2), so I'd like to give a hand if I can. And I'm not interested on having a trouble with no one, alright?
I'd like to do a little attemp to animate the stand sprite to build the first animation of this potencial new char (I'm not taking the job, but just like someone here, I'd like to do some "tests" with others's work)
So... I don't know, Thedge, or any other VERY GOOD spriter who could give us a hand just to decide how to start? I'm not asking for píxels or spriting work, just for an opinion. Feedback if you wanna use the word.

Well, I couldn't wait, sorry.
I'd have liked to add more "darkness" or "shadows" between the legs... But this kind of skirt is pretty rigid, so I considered better to don't add it. (Also, if you take female miss X or Junto Sendo you don't find the dark color there)
Also, I added 4 or 5 white píxels in order to complete the "scarf" (next to the neck)
I don't know if nail polish is well applied. It takes the last píxel of the fingers, but I think that make fingers look shorter. We should prolong the fingers one píxel more?
I still take advices, so feel free of commenting... Kindly!

looks cool, but it loos like a rounded shadow, like a u and it should be more like a n line taking in consideration the leg positions...

it seems like that between the legs is air or something like that, mmmh kinda hard to explain, not sure if I could give a hand and show you what I mean later

I understand you well, Emo.
Was a nice try to play with the "n" form, because you are trying to pronounce the "empty space" between the legs (just as I proposed in my last post) but you destroyed the "folds" of the Skirt in the process :P
Also It looks like you took the Junko's skirt shading (Add one color to the bottom of skirt, giving more light to the folds) It's not bad, but I still prefer Athena XI model. (With just 2 colors, not 3) It's a little basic, but easier and doesn't blur the form of the folds.
However, even if i wouldn't take the "n" form we still could make a less pronounced "U" form. I can see your point, Nio and I guess I'll try to use it. Don't worry about "later", I'll take your advice right now, fixing the missing "folds".

yeah that was I was talking about with the "n" shadow in there...
about the spriting process, I just did it without watching anything, I was thinking on Geese (could be helpful)
but I just did it by myself to see if it works, I like your version, just the bottom shadow botters me, seems like if he had something between the legs, and it shouln't, it needs to look like the skirt is loose

anyways, just a suggestion, like I told you already, your sprite looks good, but that thing could be improved  :sugoi:

Hey !!! After They (Chizuru, Kyo & Iori) were done with orochi  Iori found himself a hard rival and ften they have Frenemy Bond ( Frenemy means someone you hate the most but pretend to like it)

There is just one way to get it well... You should talk to ALPHA from Mugen China. He gave me some very good LUISE 3D resized sprites. With that is easier to sprite new chars! Fio is in KOF MI2.
Sadly, it was Leandro who talked to him last time. But if you got a better relationship with the mugen china guys and you agree with "negociate" to share the creation with the KOF Z project maybe they could rip good stuff for you (Alpha never teaches no one to rip from PS2, I asked for it but it was a waste of time. Like the most of the chinese people it's pretty jealous of his ripping methods)
Do your best! I made MANY animations for Luise using that rips...

Interesting project.

One little detail I liked about the NGPC game was how Athena changed clothes for almost every move, generalizing what she does for some intros or supers - no idea if she'll make the cut, considering the work ahead and all this talk of Miss X, but if she dos, it would be nice to bring over this feature.


As for Miss X's moves, I do recall hir having a move involving riding (and crashing?) a Vespa - I don't really recall if it was a different look for a classic Iori move, but it didn't resemble anything I can think of...

Thanks for taking interest in the project. Athena is definitely going to be included. The costume changes may make it in. I think I had this discussion of giving her the best versions of her specials. Though it is a bit extravagant and I would have loved to do something like that out side of a full game. Athena is about no 7 on my to do list. I think now would be a good time to set in stone how she should play.

-I was thinking of using the custom Athena sprites made by EI (the clean version of course). It would be nice to use those as it's something she doesn't have in the standard KOFs, yet similar to her 99 outfit which she has in the original SGF (complete with short hair).



This is a palette I had a friend made to be more Athena like (and fit the palette style I'm using for this game), however I have colour separated these sprites since this was made.

Ugh, I ALWAYS HATED that design clusterfuck. I'd rather just use her KOF 99 sprites if I were you. Can't stand seeing that thing in another KOF fullgame.

I dunno, I kinda like that design.  It's like a definitive "best of" for Athena.  It has bits and pieces of all the things she's known for.

worst shoes she ever had + stocks and tighs at the same time. I always hated her lower part the most in that design (and KOF 97's one aswell for that matter).

I also remember how the sprites looked like and... you'll have to do tons of fixes for that thing to look decent. Mixing KOF 02 and pre 02 sprites in the same char (And with that kind of frankenspriting) is never a good idea :P. And the costume doesn't even look different enough as her upper body is still way too similar to her KOF 99 costume.

Seems like I messed up a bit. Athena E isn't going to be used. Also, due to some other circumstances, XI Athena will not be used either. SO. What to do?

Athena is definitely going to be included. The costume changes may make it in.

Nice - Athena may not be a personal favorite, but she's certainly got a lot of interesting features and background to work with.

The trickier part to get the transformations to work would be establishing a palette that would cover most, if not all, of her looks throughout the 96 to XI age of KoF sprites (there are samples of the 94 and 95 looks in her 98 intro and Psychic 8/9 moves) - if that's done, it should be fairly simple to add more alternatives for any given move.

For example:

* since some version of her give her different outfits during Shining Crystal Bit, that principle could be applied to other moves, using different sprite looks for any given special attack provided their clsns match

* her taunt could change the outfit she's using in her stance (her stances change quite a bit between games though, I guess this could be narrowed down to a small subset - off the top of my head, KoF2000 had her in one of her most practical stances, but her hair wasn't as iconic in that one; XI went with a "plain" schoolgirl look that matched what she wore in SvC MotM, where she was intended to look as iconic as possible, so that could work well - even if only for the idle stance)

* a pet idea for the concept was having each move match the outfit where that move debuted, but her base specials haven't really changed all that much since 95 (and IIRC she only got Psycho Sword added compared to 95, and the aesthetics difference consisted on shorter sleeves) - plenty of variations on her reflector though, I wonder which will make the cut - might be worth considering applying the concept to which version of which move is used

* silly idea that involves more editing than anyone's likely to bother with, but might as well toss it in: in some games Asamiya seems to channel the other Athena (the demi-goddess version which eventually made it to SvC and NGBC) during some high-end supers, as if she had some "higher self" thing going on, so that could be an alternate look to consider for some brief transformations if she had a power bar full, using EX version of moves (probably not applicable), or if she were to have some temporary transformation mode like Leona. Not necessarily a good idea, but one in the back of my mind and there's no harm in putting it out there.

Doesn't feel quite as classic Athena to me, even if it succeeed at being a new alternate look for here - the NGPC game was a bit bound by a time when SNK was trying to promote 99 and new characters, so it went with that look, but at least to me an iconic Athena has long hair, and maybe that purple bead nacklace she had in the earlier games.

The XI look could work well as a base/idle stance, and you could probably pick and choose from each and every move in her history then use the sprites from that for that specific attack, and Athena being Athena it wouldn't look out of place, just use the little glitter effect she uses in her transforming 98 intro or something.

I don't think there are any fully sprited characters from Metal Slug (a shame, I really like Fiolina).

There are half-assed ones. And I'm sure you wouldn't ever use them.

98 athena, 2k2 is decent too; I prefer goddess athena but that requires heavy editing, I remember I was editing like 3 athena sprites per week to that outfit but stopped after one month.

It's not really an option, as the 94 and 95 sprites are smaller - there are a few usable ones in later games, such as the 98 intro and the Psychic 8/9/10 supers, but it's not possible to get a lot of use out of those.

02 and 03 Athena are kinda too frilly for my tastes, I tend to prefer the outfits that don't emphasize skirts like the 96 one - if edits end up being needed, I getss skirts make it harder too...

Hey everyone I am about to give a story about SNK Gal Fighters

First Read the Original below
Story: The final year of the millennium, 2000 A.D. A mysterious invitation makes its way to female fighters all over the world. Written therein...  "2000 A.D. The Q.O.F. Tournament opens! This competition's victor shall receive the totally awesome "Reward of K': one wish that is to be granted."

Yours Truly, The Enigmatic "X" P.S. "You can only get one wish, so make it count!"
P.S.S. "All who receive this invitation must attend. Or else! (No guys allowed!)"

What's Q.O.F.? And what is the true identity of "X", sender of the mysterious invitations? At any rate, the excitement is rising! Here now unrolls the greatest (at least scheduled), bare-all (well, not everything) battle of self-interest this country will see!!!


In other words ......
(I first played when i was in fourth grade)

Here's What I thought First

 Sample 1 : When Kyo got kidnapped by the Nests Iori Spent 1 year in agony trying to find him , one day he met his former teammates (From 95 KOF Tournament)  who wanted to get revenge from leaving them injured and beaten aftermath. Iori fought with them and before He was about to End them His other Teammates from 96 tournament arrived, Yagami (Iori) then thought to do something else for a while......So He patched up with them  an Theres QOF.

This was the only idea at first then When i unlocked Kushinada Yuki ( i never  knew back then) i played and ended then i got confused two years later I played KOF 97 with the Three sacred Treasure Team I finally Found out that she was Kyo's Girlfriend.

so I made up a new Story afterward

Sample 2 : Kyo had been in a countless (presumably) bouts with Yagami, One Day He asked Yagami (in one fight) That if he has other thing besides going after him. Yagami Hesitated and continued to fight . After Kyo beat him..... As usual --; Kyo told to Do something else for a while and he will fight him, Iori had thought for a while but as he was about to neglect it Kyo told him That he was having a crash course or he needs break for a while but promiused him that they will fight in an alley after that (You know KOF 98 UM PS2 Intro where Kyo and Iori Fight in an alley).

Well thins is the current thing i thought of why iori ended up like this

The quote up is auxilary. The Story continues.... (Look everyone You Can think Of How Iori Ended Up as Miss X?)
Yagami meets up with his former teammates Billy and Eiji were angry with him . Then He meets Up Mature and Vice . All Argue with Each other and Yagami gets an Idea of hosting a KOf tournament for Girls only. He then wore his miss x outfit and he wanted others to wear  (Only Mature and vice) While billy and Eiji would help him in inviting Iori gets a talisman from somewhere (Unknown)
So He Asks Who to select after 4-5 hours they selected the girls. Now Iori made the invitation up
there and Eiji sent this to those girls....(The Spirits of Mature and vice went back in time to get
Akari, Nakoruru and Shiki) ...And That is how I sum up any question.

Deep voice is better, trust me.



Changed Shiki's poison move a little bit, so the effect is more visible and that it is recoded so it doesn't interfere with combos.
Throws are being changed so they add hits correctly unlike in KOF games.

The infinity sign looks really pixeled.
Otherwise, the rest is looking very fine. I've grown to like HR lifebars, but this is kind of fresh. :)

About a hundred years ago, I made a post on this thread. AND NOW.



Oh boy is it good to be back. I'm not even sure of how many are still interested in this project. That doesn't mean I won't finish. So what's new? Hmm...not much to be honest. Things are still progressing.

-I was talking to someone about making helper lifebars, but I don't have any experience making bars and the like. Anyone know where I can take a look at a few examples
-Lost place on Whip. I don't like continuing from save points after so long, so I started again. 2 days later and she's at 80% :) Video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z34CELuBRWg&feature=youtu.be
-Not going to use the DM hitsparks (as (not) seen in the above video). They are ugly imo and I'd rather just have 3 levels of hitspark
-REDNAVI IS DELAYING ME. SO IS THEDGE. If you have any power over them, convince them to give up the goods.
-Speaking of goods, wouldn't it be easier if I commissioned people helping me (WHO DON'T LIKE TO WORK FOR FREE(I WANT STUFF TOO, YA KNOW)) by gifting them games on Steam or something. This is how I do business with Rednavi. It's a lot less messy and he almost always (except above) comes through. Coincidently, I've been without accommodation for a little bit, so I'm a bit short on funds atm.   
-Be sure to check the paint shop thread as I'll be adding palettes sheets for you guys to work on. :)
