Exploring different ideas for Ariel’s final look. Only focusing on the design for now, the colour scheme is still very much subject to change.(click the picture for the full size version)Please let me know which design(s) you like the best!
J with F hair and C pants/plated gloves would be my favorite. Maaaaaaaybe A's shin wrap.As is, either J or F.
B or J. They would be even better with I's hairdo. You've got so many cool individual pieces (specially the boots and shin guards) you could make a rival/semiclone character or something out of the scrapped elements and it would still be pretty cool on its own. Edit: were you inspired by Ghost in the Shell?
Played around with it:Left is what I suggested, right is the result of a little further mix-and-match.
Oh lol, when I post fanart I struggle to get a single comment, but some random design junk gets a dozen+ comments in just a day? This place feels really backwards sometimes Thanks for the feedback! Interesting to hear so many different opinions. Still kind of unsure which direction exactly I want to take the design, but trying things out definitely makes it easier to figure out. Posted: February 01, 2014, 10:08:58 pmSorry for not getting back to specific questions, I was in a bit of a hurry.Long John Killer: Maybe. Probably. I don't know. I gave her an eyepatch in the first place because it looks cool. I had some thoughts about aviator shades but it looks pretty dumb so I'll be dropping it. Fubini: Well, the idea is to whittle it down to what looks the best and is the most appropriate for this particular character. The less-than-best parts could be used, sure.. but what's the point if I'm already using the best ones? I'm not planning to create clone characters either. But anyway, as I said, the idea is to explore different avenues to see what works, what doesn't, which direction I want to take things. Was I inspired by Ghost in the Shell? Not really. Not specfically. Subconsciously, sure, I love a lot of Masamune Shirow's work, and that's bound to surface when designing stuff in a similar realm. If anything I'm the least happy with the more sci-fiey elements though, because it strays a bit from what I think the character ought to be. But again nothing is set in stone, and I don't think it will be until I get further into the design process for some more characters either. As much as possible I want to design the characters as somewhat of a cohesive whole. Will definitely iterate further on Ariel but I want to get working on a few more characters too.
GREAT EVERYTHING, but I'm pretty sure part of Alex's mysterious personality is supposed to show from his menacing stare, which should be "angrier" on your drawing, maybe the headband should go lower on his forehead onto his eyebrows. Also, the glimmer in his eyes is too puppy dog like, too cute. I'm pretty sure there's gotta be a way to make it look more "serious". Everything about this is SUPER CLEAN, people should learn from this. It's just that Alex needs less "clean" and more tough to him IMO. EDIT: Example to better illustrate my pointSpoiler, click to toggle visibiltyAngrier Face makes him look EVEN MORE badass, in my opinionThat's the only feeback I have for you. The lines and proportions are amazing.
