So I have a project in mind that will take some years to produce and such (a full original game) and I was wondering something.
Would it be possible in the future for a MUGEN free to download and play (no money involved), original content (chars, music, bg's, etc...) to appear on Steam Greenlight? The game would be completely free (maybe even have online) and with only original content, do you think that's possible? I was talking with another MUGEN community member and we were thinking the same, anyone could have an answer?

Well as long as it's for free and no one is making any money on the deal, distributing the engine is okay. I wouldn't see a problem with it, but if you're really unsure you should contact Elecbyte about it or at the very least look into the license and what it allows you to do legally.

Didn't Terrordrome use Mugen as its base?? And Paramount ordered a cease and desist on it. Capcom and SNK have played nice with us and stated that Mugen is pretty much fanfiction since we're not getting commercially paid for any of this.

I think there's way too much grey areas in your quest to do something with Mugen. Even if you're using 100% original material, you're probably going to run into issues regardless. I say keep your release strictly to the community. Lots of people enjoy Mugen as is. Why should we have to access it through steam when we could get it pretty much anywhere else??
All of your Mugen Portrait needs may be found HERE.

I'd like to report two robots on the MFG forums: One is EXShadow. The other is Saikoro.
There should be a Saikoro plugin for Photoshop.

That wasn't because of mugen. That was because of "using our IP that we might want to use except we're not sure yet although we could still do it" They could have continued if they'd head swapped everyone and renamed them to things like eddy cruger and jayzon. Err, probably.

People don't release on Steam just because they want, Steam gives you a wider audicence and more feedback than ever, besides, I think it's pretty much given if it's all original content and no money is involved, I can do whatever I want with the product. Don't know what issues I would get with a release on Steam too.
