KOFE Character Palettes

Strike true!

Due to popular demand, here is the palette topic. We'll see how this goes with the initial group of characters and post more if people want to make more palettes. KOFE currently has 2 palettes per character. 1 main and 1 alternate. Ideally each character would have 8 in case people want to fight 4 on 4 with the same character. I'll put the best palettes in the game along with palette credit in the game credits.

Note that because there is so many sprites being ripped and added to characters, I do not change the palette of the effect (fire, lightning, explods). That's not something realistic in a full game. So just the costume will have alternate palettes. Thanks

Iori (Note that Iori's sprite set will be changed in the future to the standard KOF palette. This means that he'll have more colors for his skin, pants and jacket and that the hair will no longer be separate from his pants):

Very nice. Kyo's a tricky one because the jacket's tied into his eyes. 6th color's a keeper for sure. Kinda feelin' 3 and 4 too. Keep 'em coming.

Glad you all like them. Yeah, Kyo was a bit challenging, but I got around it. I've done much harder.

Also, during the process of Iori's colors, I found out that his shirt is shared with his FX. I'm not sure how this will affect the entire spriteset since this FX with turn out incorrect once it's whitest color is changed.

Argh! I hate AKOF Iori. If I could do it over again, I'd have used Vans'. Just like zzzasd's K'. Sigh...

Well, I'll check to see if I can move some sprites around and unshare the fire fx. If you'd like, just post the colors you were shooting for anyway.

Well, to save lots of time, I could edit that one on row of FX to match with whatever shirt color Iori has despite the single sprite. I'm use to it.

Should be simple enough. What FX is the last row for (the one that shares his shirt)? Does the brightest color use transparency (the darker the more see-through stuff)?

I checked the Iori palette. The shirt is not attached to the fire, so go nuts. I'll post the FF team and AOF team in the next day or so. Cool palette MDD. Hope others pop up.

I strongly recommend checking over the colors to see if the FXs are fine. But just to be on the safe side, I've changed the lines of colors that shared with parts of Iori's skin and clothing.

That is some sweet stuff Kirishima. 2nd and 4th ones are pretty badass.

Trust me, I've already done the check. I colored Iori's inside shirt a bright lime green for the test. Certain sprites pull their shirt color from another "white" on the palette, which means the color wasn't correctly indexed for those ones. Neither of the whites it grabs from are the whites from the FX though, so all is well.

Just Benimaru, according to the first post.

Glad you all like my colors. Though, the fifth one I kinda forgot to adjust the shading, same goes for the 6th which is my favorite since I had a hard time trying to get Iori's pants right. I'll update them later.

The p2 colors are official KOFE colors. I'm looking for p3-p8 basically, although as Kirishima pointed out, there's a couple of p2 colors that could use replacing (like Benimaru's). I actually enjoy paletting, but don't really have the time at the moment.

First two are Classic and Ash Saga. I may or may not do more for Kyo. The jacket and eyes sharing a color limits what I could have done with him.

Updated my 5th and 6th palette.

Benimaru is next. Keep in mind his brightest skin tone is scattered somewhere in the color table, so once you find it, it's smooth sailing.

Not that hard IMO. Possible the ones I made quicker compared to Iori and Kyo.

I actually enjoyed doing this one, so I might make an extra color or two and see what else I can think of.

Iori has major palette problems that need to be fixed, so I can't make any for him yet.

First one is Polnareff and the second one is supposed to be leather jacket Paul, but it looks nothing like him. The other ones were just crazy ideas I came with on the spot, hence they aren't that great.

Granted his color table is confusing but it is possible to make palettes properly. It just needs some advanced tweaking.

It's Jin's AKOF-Iori's color table so practice on that. Or use my colors as templates since I figured out how the color scheme works.

Really digging the first Benimaru one.

Ya, definitely wanna change the Iori sprites I'm using. I'd actually love to use the XIII Iori NiO was working on with some of the SPAC crew, but I haven't heard any word. Also, looking at the NESTS fullgame project, it looks like NiO was working on separating Kyo's colors, which is palette gold. Maybe something to look forward to for KOFE v1.0's release.

I'll post Fatal Fury and AOF soon. I have 3 sprites left to draw for Ralf (thank God!!!). Should be up by the weekend.

XIII palette. This was a pain to do, as the darkest color on the pants is still shared in some places with his hair. Fucking Iori.

Those are most likely unusable. You saved them as jpg. and made them grainy.

I need to be able to pull the colors from the image you post to put in my game. A jpeg doesn't keep the palette that I use in my game. That's why you need to use the pics that I post or rip them directly from my sff. Pics should be saved as a gif or png using the same palette as the original character and not a modified one.

Great job on the palettes everyone. I'll be incorporating these into version 1.0, so don't panic if you don't yet see them in v0.9. Every character needs extra palettes after all.

Yep, it is Hwa! Though, it was tricky to get it right (skin problems ><).

Finally finished Andy's. A bit challenging because of his sprite, but it was great!

There we go.

Hey um Swiper, there appears to be a problem with Mai's template. The red set appears to have some unused colors (at least these said colors are not set on her current sprite). This causes a bit of confusion. Check the full red line if it does share with any other color on Mai's full sprites..

they are for her umbrella , lipstick and movement animation .
to change the dress and the"super deadly ninja bees" HSDM their colors are in the right of the bottom of the palettes , thats what how i changed my Mai palettes .

And though I appreciate the thought, I don't like how you completely revamped some of them, except for Evil Shen, which is better than mine. HOWEVER:

I redid them anways. The Steve/Geese one was fine and I don't know why you changed it.

Geese color needed to be a bit brighter. His hair, pants, and skin I changed a bit. A little drop of white on his shirt. And I noticed what I did wrong with second color's pants. He looks less like Steve and more of a custom color. Must've been a habit of mine.

But I guess it's all personal preference I suppose.

Quick heads up regarding Ash's color sheet. Take caution when changing his top light color on his hair. It shares one part on his FX and it needs to be changed to that of the hair color.

Which effect. If it's a fire effect, I can separate it. That's not a big deal. I'd suggest coloring him as if it didn't affect other effects.

Ive begun work on Rock though i am awere that he needs those Mary snaps and i might be able to help with that. but the reason i put this in the palettes section is cause im doing some sprite changes that will make paletting for him less limiting, and make pals like these possible.

unless Swiper dosen't want me to, ultimatly it's up to him. My motive for doing this? i want to make him exclusive to KOFE plus I like having more palette freedom. I also have a verson that just has the white in his eyes seperated from his jacket.

It looks like his leg is being bent/broken backwards during his arm snap(to me anyway). His face looks odd during the leg snaps and his upper body seems kind of thin. It might just be the angle that its at though. Swiper will look at them eventually though

i thought it was strange also in the arm snap but it's the same as kyo's, seeing as thats where i got it. he looks kinda thin because hes from Mark of the Wolves every one in there is smaller then kof guys. im not a master of art but I'll do my best to fix it. im sure somebody can do it better then me, and if any one wants to do it, just PM me about it. thanks for the Feedback LA.

Face on the first leg snap looks odd. The first arm snap, the leg might be a tad too small? Maybe? Its better to go with someone else's eyes on this though. The leg motion for the arm snap looks better though imo.

no prob, every one needs constructive input.

I mean, with out your feedback I might not have changed them at all. The head/face I frankensprited from his character, and out of the others it was the best choice because the other half decent ones I was already using.
plus I changed them a little more after I added them. I gave it my best and hope it will be good enough for the game. (I don't get offended over trifles so speak your mind man, we are just trying to make a good game)

oh yeah i forgot, the face on the leg snap (not leg i ment arm snap, my bad) is supposed to be like that, a piece of his face had to be removed cause it's part of the snap. Check other characters for references.
