http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-11-21/u-s-envoy-bosworth-visits-asia-amid-signs-north-korea-chases-nuclear-goal.html

News said:
North Korea lobbed artillery shells at a South Korean island near their border, killing two soldiers and setting houses ablaze in the worst attack on its neighbor in at least eight months.

South Korea returned fire with 80 shells and scrambled fighter jets as President Lee Myung Bak vowed to respond “sternly.” Local television channel YTN showed smoke billowing from Yeonpyeong island off South Korea’s northwest coast and said residents took cover in bomb shelters. Stocks and U.S. futures dropped while the dollar and Swiss franc strengthened.

Tensions with Kim Jong Il’s regime have risen in the past year after the sinking of the South Korean warship Cheonan in March killed 46 sailors. U.S. President Barack Obama this week dispatched envoy Stephen Bosworth to Asia after reports by a U.S. scientist that North Korea had revealed a “stunning” uranium- enrichment plant.

....

Well this won't end well.

actually they do have power but they have curfew. and people from north korea do own stuff like tv radio and such but they are given the government it's like a loyalty award or something like that and there is only one channel/radio program and they're all for propaganda. I really hate how they reinforce their military power and yet they ignore the needs of commoners who are the backbones of their country. it's a shame that communism promotes equality yet the leaders who supposed to lead this idea are the ones who abuse their people.

poor little boys they don't even get a proper schooling or a decent clothes for winter.

He did. I didn't say being a communist is wrong I mean the idea is great but the rulers (not all of them) are abusive and so is other types of governments.

this will end like every other incident between the north and south before it. the south will grit their teeth, roll their eyes, and go about their business. the north will hold bi-weekly parades for the next year celebrating victory over the imperial forces of the world. south korea has absolutely nothing to gain from taking over the north, since the cost of rebuilding the north would be astronomical as is.

kim jong il is going to die soon anyway, and that wouldn't solve the massive problems in NK. china could step in and raise sanctions, basically forcing the north to behave themselves. but neither china nor south korea want a war, or even a destabilization of the NK government, because the cost would inevitably fall upon them. there's already a power struggle going on in north korea, with this attack believed to be the military heads of NK exerting  their authority because they view kim jong-il's son and successor as weak.

actually it's easy americans offer something to a general of nk make all kim jong il's family to attend to another one of their "victory party" with all the generals send in a predator drone with equipped with bombs and kamekaze the shit out of them.

and now all high ranking official is killed and the only one left is a traitor general kill him too and make some fake evidences that a gas leak or some shit that killed them all and there you go.

They don't want to pay to do so. Nobody does. The country would almost be better off if it collapsed in on itself and nobody lived there.

That could possibly solve the israel/palestine thing too. NK depopulates, let one of those 2 places move in.

Uhhhh, no it wouldn't.

  • If it's not the highest, China has one of the highest foreign oil consumption rates in the world. However this hardly manages to suffice for the entire country, which still uses coal energy to power the majority of it. Now imagine throwing in North Korea, which has barely an electricity at all.
  • China is one of the largest manufacturers of goods, and now they're starting to get aware of that fact. Perhaps you missed the showdown about two months ago between it and Japan where China threatened to stop the production of rare-earth materials to Japan. Yup, China can do that. With access to North Korea's resources, it would gain even more influence here.
  • Distribution of wealth in China is still extremely lopsided. While you'll find major hubs like Beijing and Shanghai to look like normal American cities, if you go to the south to say, Kunming, it's almost as if you stepped into a Chinese farm duing Mao's reign. And no, it's not like American farmers who can still stay up to date by getting a TV and internet. They do not have the economic means nor the facilities to have either. You think they're going to prioritize updating anything in North Korea that isn't the capital?
  • Last but not least, China's government is also technically a totalitarian government. Aside from some elements of western capitalism, it's still the same type of government, so situations likely wouldn't improve much.

I was refering to the US government's priorities, not the living conditions of the US. The majority of US legislation seems to favor themselves, the miltary, and big businesses over John Q. Public. It may not be exactly like North Korea, but the US isn't a saint either.

well, the comparison is still a stretch. joining the military in north korea is basically the only option a majority of the country has to keep themselves and their families from dying slow, painful deaths due to starvation. there's a pretty good look at north korea's society here :

Assuming you are american, its a pretty insulting comparison towards everyone else, since it downplays the gruesome fate that is dedicated to anyone living in north korea and tries to make the problems of a rich country pass out as being as of much importance as those of a country where there is a dictatorship, its kinda like claiming that nazi germany was the same as the united states now.

The reason no one has took them over is because they have nothing. The natural resources of NK are nil.

That is why they are trying bully everyone. They can't make anything, so the only way they can improve is to extort resources from other places.

Meanwhile, China is using NK the same way the Russians did during the first war. A place to have a fake war with the USA. The retarded part is... We don't even sanction china because they hold our debt.

Which we use to build more weapons to fight China by fighting NK and threaten Iran who supplies China, and fight in Afghanistan

I'm not sure where you were going with the latter half of your post.
Anyway, don't underestimate the Head Kims in Charge. They actually have both China and South Korea by the throat because if their government actually does collapse, refugess will start to pour across the borders causing all kinds of economic and social problems. If you think China receives criticism for human rights violations today, wait until you see what both they and South Korea will stoop to  in order to “protect their borders.” [Insert US-Mexico analogy here]
I honestly wonder what effect that would have on China’s allegedly “booming” economy.

Really sorry for the late reply bro.

@ Shundhi.
My point is that this the cold war all over again. The first time we fought them, they were supported by China... So was Vietnam.
China is the last cold war threat and they like NK just where they are and how they are...
I understand what you're saying, but the point I'm trying to make is that "not all is as it appears." China may be happy about the minor problems NK is causing for both the US and SK, but China is also very scared of the (political) threat NK poses to them. When you really think about it, what does China really have to gain by funding the NK government? Nothing. Based on the actions of EVERY government, it seems as though the rest of the world is content to just let NK sit where it is and cause its laughable "trouble." The US has basically "talked" about dealing with NK for about 20 years now but hasn't done a thing to stop any of the ruling Kims.
The reality is that NK has absolutely nothing to lose acting in the way that it does; they know that if the government collapses China will have to stomach the incursion of millions of NK refugess who will cause them serious problems. In short, the NK government actually protects China from those problems -  China knows that supporting the NK government is a waste of money, but understands that it HAS to in order to avoid a crippling refugee crisis (and other consequences).
