It's definitely one of the better Marvel movies, but definitely not a 9/10 movie. I really disliked the action scenes after the prison breakout. I don't know if was from the combination of shitty popcorn and a can of Starbucks Doubleshot coffee-like beverage giving me indigestion or I'm just getting too old, but I found the actions scenes after the prison breakout to be incomprehensible.

even though your 2 line review had something like 25 lines and you deserve a warning or spanking or something, I'm going to agree with it.  That was the best awful movie I've ever watched
I think so, but isn't Regis Philbin already married?

Surprisingly enjoyable. Not as good as the first but better than that horse shit American Grudge 2.

Anyone seen Visitor Q? I've been trying to watch all the Takashi Miike movies I can get my hands on.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Wow, the first hour and a half was so boring. No action, no dialogues, no nothing. Plain boring. The last hour was fine though. I like the way the action was filmed/produced, and the overall visuals are appealing. The acting is subpar though (nothing horrible, but nothing to remember). Marvel, buy Spiderman to Sony already !

We can only hope and pray that Marvel gets Spidey back one day. :(

Guardians of the Galaxy

great, easily in the top tier of Marvel movies. But I still think Iron Man 1, Avengers, and Cap 2 are better. Character work felt very rushed and muddled a lot of the time, especially compared to Avengers (and yeah I know the latter was working with preestablished characters and the former had to introduce everyone, but still, feel like it could've been handled better).
Spoiler: more in-depth discussion about character stuff (click to see content)

Acting is all great, loved Chris Pratt's balance of goofiness and superheroics, and also his muscles; Zoe Saldana was fantastic at conveying both the physicality of her warrior side and her very vulnerable; Dave Bautista is great at all the dead-pan humor; Bradley Cooper turns in a great oversized performance; Lee Pace plays crazy in all the right ways; Michael Rooker is menacing and hilarious as Yondu; Karen Gillan is all creepy and disturbing; Benicio del Toro is absolutely fabulous at being Space Liberace; and Vin Diesel is Groot. Script is pretty good but feels rushed a lot of the time, having to introduce so much stuff. The humor is however reliably hilarious. Action is very well shot and composed; I didn't have any trouble following it and it all flowed together nicely. Great movie, would see again, etc.

things i didnt love: john c reilly was really out of place. rocket raccoon was cool but i didnt like how they dropped his history in one line as a basic red herring as its never gone into again. the major villain was fucking weak and a letdown, got blasted around bane dark knight style for most of the latter half of the movie. also that after credits scene..., dont do it marvel
John C. Reilly fit right in, IMO. As for Rocket's backstory and the after credits:

Guardians of the Galaxy

* I thought Rocket was going to be like comic relief to some extent, but he was played really straight and his character really had weight. He truly felt like "The Man (Raccoon?) With The Plan" at times, even more so than Quill.
* I expected Batista to be a more quiet character, yet he got the longest and most articulate lines in the whole movie, and his acting did not suck at all.
* I expected a full on Comedy, but sadly the bits previously shown actually worked better as Trailers than in the actual movie.
* BUT! I was surprised how the movie handled pretty well some emotional moments, and how the team came together rather pretty heroically.
* All characters were pretty relevant and felt with almost equal weight, when I thought it was all going to be Star Lord and friends.

I came in expecting something, and it turned out to be nothing like I expected it. And it was fucking great.

Zodiac
By David Fincher, telling the story of the investigation of the serial killer who called himself Zodiac. Based on real facts, with a lot of suspense and a great pace.
Grade : 8/10

The Dark Knight Returns (part 1)
Cartoon based on the comics by Frank Miller. I loved the story, but couldn't get to like Miller's drawings. The cartoon fixes this by bringing a more up-to-date graphic design. I need to watch part 2 now.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Everyone in this thread covered its strengths and weaknesses really well so I don't really have much to add. Except that this is the first Marvel movie I saw that made me want to go out and buy the comic book, only to be disappointed that my local bookstore was lacking the first volume of EVERY iteration of this series.

I would recommend actually starting with Annihilation, and not the actual Guardians book, because Annihilation itself is really the seed of the modern iteration of Guardians of the Galaxy* and is the start of a 5 year run in the cosmic corner of Marvel, by the same creative team**. Annihilation was a crossover of most of Marvel's outer space stuff, which revamped a lot of them, and serves as a great introduction to that corner of the Marvel universe; , and is followed by another event, Annihilation: Conquest, which features the prototype version of the team, essentially. Both events have collected editions that have pretty much everything, so they're easy to pick up. Conquest leads directly into the Guardians series proper. That book went for 25 issues before being cancelled, but the writers were able to get a limited series called The Thanos Imperative which wrapped everything all the plot threads up, some going back as far as the first Annihilation.

*the original team, in the comics, was from the 30th century. The present day team is named after the one from the future because time travel!
**basically; Keith Giffen did Annihilation, and the Starlord mini from Annihilation: Conquest, which was the prototype version of the Guardians team, and reintroduced Rocket and Groot in their modern forms. Conquest proper and the Guardians series was written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. But they all worked together and stuff, so it's not like there was a major creative shift or anything, Giffen got the ball rolling and DnA took the reigns and rode it out wonderfully!

So basically read these:

 - Annihilation (3 volumes)
 - Annihilation: Conquest (2 volumes)
 - Guardians of the Galaxy (4 volumes)
 - The Thanos Imperative (1 volume)

I mean I guess Guardians can be started on with just the series itself but I think the full experience is completely and totally worth it, the 5 year arc is really well done and comes together beautifully. And you get a great tour of all the crazy shit people have been doing in Marvel's cosmic comics!

The Dark Knight Returns (part 1)
Cartoon based on the comics by Frank Miller. I loved the story, but couldn't get to like Miller's drawings. The cartoon fixes this by bringing a more up-to-date graphic design.
They're not really any more up-to-date, they're just modified and simplified for animation. Don't pick on Frank Miller, he's had a very hard life turning into a completely bonkers lunatic.

Comedy movie with James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Michael Cera (also Emma Watson and Rihanna), all playing as themselves. Some stupid yet crazy ideas, as usual. Was a nice watch.
