Fofai aka LM_ Maverick contacted the staff. He's been using the alternate account now for 5 months without incident and is wishing to return back to Guild using his proper account so he may announce releases, etc. Some of you will know why he was banned. Those that do not, it is not very important now. We're moving ahead.

Due to the amount of time he has been absent, how long he's been incognito, and without incident the Moderation Staff has agreed to allow him back. Iced should be merging his accounts shortly. He is on a strict probation period. We expect him to be a "normal" user, however this is also a blanket warning for those that may wish to poke, harass, bully him or whatever. If the staff feels anyone is attempting to make him regress or anything of the sort there will be potential penalties. Maverick is encouraged to PM any mod he chooses if he feels harassed.

On that note, we welcome Maverick back to Guild and hope he goes far.

I had a feeling Fofai was Maverick... seeing the recent model he posted clarified that.

If I remember correctly, he got into a little (heated) discussion with S.D. (nothing malicious) in the EF-12 thread without completely losing his lid (not sure if that would've been the case a year ago). I have no problem with Mav (formally) returning.

yeh I was trying like hell to diffuse that as quickly and as quietly as possible without incident. But yeah 5 months without problems using a alternate account.

The last time Maverik was on this forum, he was incredibly insulting, disruptive, arrogant, conceited, and an all around terrible poster and human being. He claimed to be better and smarter than literally every single Mugen contributor, active or otherwise. He repeatedly displayed a complete lack of respect for this entire community.

He was the source of many 10-20 page long thread derailments where he claimed to "shit" on users and their work, often totally unprovoked. Once he was permanently banned from MFG, after numerous second chances and short bans, he went straight to MI where he made several malicious attack threads, including one post that was linked to me by a friend where he used real pictures of myself and Rajaa and labeled us pedophiles. I understand you can't let what happens on other forums influence decisions here, but that is the type of person he is.

He pretended to have reformed several times the last time he was around. Please go back and reread all of the flame wars this guy caused and all of the second chances he was given and rethink this decision. Other permabanned users who were not nearly as personally insulting or wildly disruptive were shown no tolerance for alt accounts or ban evasion. After all that Maverik was guilty of, with ban evading now added to that list, I just don't see how this is a good idea. At all.

Some people may accuse me of being unable to leave things in the past or being petty or something like that, but I felt this needed to be said. This is not meant to poke him or prod him or any of that, just meant as a reminder of what he's capable of and how detrimental he was to this community.

That's some crazy shit right there... this is why I don't like to share opinions until I know more (I really should listen to my own advice a little more).

Regardless if Mav has changed for the better, some things don't just get brushed aside (so I don't blame you). I also think 5 months is a bit too soon, but that's besides the point.

I don't like to tell people how they should feel, so I'll just say that everyone (himself included) knows he's on a very short leash. If the moment something happens, they'll pull the plug quick (I hope).

I was involved with/ read everything Mav said here and MI. As long as there is no incident he can stay. I don't believe in permabans. It would take but a second to ban him again. I'm sure if he's banned again it will be for good. This was not a unanimous decision for the staff. But a greater majority didn't mind giving him one last shot.

His last ban was after many, many shorter bans where someone always said "If he acts up again, it will be for good." I think you're also setting an unhealthy precedent as far as allowing ban evasions goes.

I'm not going to get into a long discussion about this, as I've said pretty much everything I need to say. I want to add one more thing, though. Now that the accounts have been merged, I encourage anyone not familiar with Maverik to read some of his post history from before he was "permabanned." Take this for example, from his very last post:

Sean I understand your concern, Mav knows he will have to make up in terms of dealing with others to regain lost trust, we talked a bit before, and thats why he's in the whole probation thing.


I rather give him a chance since he admits his faults than just give him no chances, but we went to votes as well, and ofcourse we have an eye on him.

I hope things go smoothly and he manages to regain the trust we want to place on him. Let us sin by being too trust worthy than by being too non trustworthy if it needs to be.
Not long ago we tried the same for hjk and it failed then. We know that not always people improve, but mav expressed actual desire to improve and so we are trying to give him a chance.

Mav, more to the point maybe you should, i dunno pm some of the people you had problems before to talk with them and apologize, if you feel you didnt do the right thing it would make them more inclined to give you a chance.

I just don't get it. You were there. Plus, no one seems to be addressing the ban evasion issue and how this will make punishing people in the future for making alt accounts after being banned seem silly when you occasionally let people get away with it.

Sean, the ban evasion in itself is not a terrible offence, it's only an aggravating circumstance if he acts up. What the staff cares about is whether shit happens or not, and the point here is that he apparently did get by without causing troubles for 5 months, incognito or not, ban evasion or not. The point in not banning him right now is that he has been capable of staying calm for 5 months. "If he never ever acts up again, then what's the problem ?" is what they're saying.

Hey welcome back! I still remember how you were telling me that my stuff sucked in comparison to yours just because I used stuff that belonged to SNK while you made your own 3D models. Kinda funny how a year later I find myself working with an entire team of graphic and music artists making our very own game AND I'm even getting paid for it! Every time I think about my current situation reminds me of you and all the things you said to me :P

In any case I'm fine with this, haven't trolled anybody around here in like a year so I'll probably not going to have any issues with him. Besides his grammar is quite better! That should tell you something has changed. IMO, just give him another chance and let it flow. His past is already as tainted as it can be, if you can't put that in the past then just ignore DM and move on. If he fucks up he'll be gone for good.

He's already convinced the staff that he's worthy of another chance by paradoxically breaking the rules in order to prove that he's capable of not breaking the rules, so like I said, whatever. In the end, my opinion in this instance doesn't really matter. I'm just going to leave this alone now because the decision has already been made.

People are punished for two reasons (and probably more, but I'm picking just two):

1.  To rehabilitate them.

2.  To keep them out of a community they are taking something away from instead of contributing to.

There is a huge difference between ban evasion to get back in to spam and cause trouble and ban evasion to get back in to contribute.  In my opinion (and the opinion of the majority of the staff).  Maverik seems to be rehabilitated and is contributing.  As long as it keeps up, he'll stay.

And yes I'm fully aware that there are members here who get by with breaking rules time after time with little consequence and others who will never be allowed back.  In a perfect world (or forum) the same procedure would be applied consistently to everyone.

Mm? I thought it was normal that MBH refers to it as "punish". But maybe it's because I'm too used of it.

Me, I am neutral about this. I too know what Maverik has done in the past, but enough time has passed and his posts seem to indicate that he's really trying to improve, so I don't think it's bad that the staff has given him a second chance. He's not a total lost cause like other users I've seen, though like Sean, half of me believes he will blow up sooner or later after seeing past experiences. I really hope that in one month we can all say that was a good idea.

Ash is the only person I would never give another chance to. He was the most detrimental user the community had ever seen. It's one thing to call people names or act up on a forum and get second, third, million chances. It's another to attempt to control/destroy the entire community even outside of Guild.

I'll just wait and see how things evolve. I too believe Maverik may end up blowing up in the end, as he has done several times in the past (this is not his 2nd chance, more like his 3rd or 4th). I just hope he doesn't, for I think his contributions are interesting and bring something fresh to the community.

as someone that was repeatedly involved in conflicts with maverick in the past, i don't really give a shit either way. worst case scenario he posts dumb shit and gets banned again. the idea of permabanned users being allowed back into the forum because "hey they had an alt account and didn't start shit for months is weird to me", although i see why some people would be fine with it, because it kind of makes sense and shows that that person might have changed for the better. maybe there could be a more formal channel for permabanned (or banned for like a year) users to get another chance after apologizing for their shitty behavior. some way to appeal bans. i don't know.

Nope, I know they are talking about me. I expected nothing less after the unpopular decision to allow me back. Me replying will do absolutely nothing in this situation only time will. For his case, I'm not really qualified to talk about it since I wasn't around much when he was active.

As for Maverik, I just feel that people can't let shit go. Yes, he's had several egotrips in the past and he was no stranger to it after being told himself.
But all the while I lost a lot of respect from other people during those incidents. I see a couple of figures here who are as guilty of bad behavior as he was for ganging up on him and starting shit on purpose after things looked pretty much alright.

Haven't we gone past all this bullshit? Can't we all just let it go and not try to call when he's gonna blow up next? That is seriously discouraging.

No matter what you guys say, it's all up to the staff, they said they'll let him back, stop complaining about what happened in the past, this is the present & future, if it's honestly that big of a deal just avoid saying anything to mav, and i doubt mav will say anything to you. it's not that hard to ignore a user. Saying "oh he's gonna blow up again" isn't going to change anything, the staff has faith that he won't do it again, so give him a chance, I'm sure if any of you were in his shoes you'd want people to give you a chance before judging you based on the past.

but that's just my 2cents so yeah.

In this particular instance, my only reaction is 'Yay, I don't have to check another site to see what Maverik's doing anymore!'

In general, though, I've administrated a few forums in the past and we've never found a good solution for this kind of thing. I also adopted the 'If you can sneak back in without me catching you and be productive for long enough before revealing yourself, you can stay' approach in most cases. I acknowledge that it's all SORTS of fucked up, but I've never come up with a better idea. It would be really really neat if someone could!

I really do encourage people to lurk the history of MFG. When I'm not logged on posting, I usually look at the history of other users (mostly the ones that got the ban hammer) just to get an idea of how bad exciting this place can get.

In any event, I still have no issue with Maverik returning here (mostly because of my mindstate towards web forums and the internet in general). Let's see what happens.

Same here. I'm not agree with his comeback too, but if he really changed for good, I don't have any problem with that. As Aldo and some others said, let's see how evolves this
