Very smexy, Walt.   :sugoi:

Guess who's a stage coder?  ;P

Actually, if anyone else hasn't gotten to it, I'd like to code it.  I've got a lot of free time nowadays.

Go for it, just make sure the shadows are projected towards the viewer, as per light source.

and I wanted to add a lens-flare effect coming from the reflectors, but sadly I'd have to create the effect and i have no idea how to do it :P

Lens flare? Walt, do you have Photoshop (Hell, do you have GIMP)?

Heh, I was actually thinking about using a lens flare, too.  I'll try ripping some lens flares from some other games (SFA2 Dictator plane stage comes to mind) and see how that looks.

Lens flare? Walt, do you have Photoshop (Hell, do you have GIMP)?

Or I could use that.   ;)

Answer - No, I don't have Photoshop. I made this using MSPaint.

Dude how about you help to create a BLIZZARD (moving from left to right)!
... although I don't think I've seen full fledged blizzards in Videogames

I think I can make a couple of animations later, like ... surveillance camera rotating, or even a Genome Soldier walking in the bg.

Quick status update: I've got a very basic version (with super-jump support) working right now, thanks to Cybaster's tool and the ImageSplitter algorithm.  Snow and light effects help would be very, very welcome indeed, as that would mean less time for me spent on creating effects and more on coding.  Keep in mind that you'll be designing for a low-res stage, though.

Also, Hiryu is there because I was using him to test superjump bounds.  :p

So do I send the Blizzard sprite I tried to you? ???

More work done!  Thanks to XTRM Yzan (now you tell me! grr! *shakes fist*) for the mist and snow.  I was able to further separate the snow, by the way.  Thanks again for taking the time to make those for me.  :)

As a result of the separation, I can create a better sense of depth for the stage (i.e. snow behind and in front of the characters, with each layer falling at different speeds).  Lens flares have yet to be done, but that shouldn't be a problem for me.  Also, possibly awaiting other BG elements that walt might do (camera and Genome soldier).

Here's a video of what's done so far.

Good work in the snow.  But you could use different valors to delta in front and behind sprites.

The deltas are usually the last thing I work on, so no need to worry.  :)

Wowzers! Loving the snow, except for the snowflakes closest to the camera are HUUUGE. To be honest, since I cleaned the exisiting snowflakes of the blizzard and manually reconstructed what was behind them (see source images,  I know the absolute biggest flakes were 4x4 pixels, where as with 8-10 of these you can cover the vertical length of the stage :P

Also, the animation is perfect in sense of direction, but keep in mind it's a violent Alaskan blizzard, so it should be a lot faster, as this looks like a gentle snow in Luis Alejandro's hometown ^_^ Also, call me a pixel lover if you want, but I want to be able to shut the fog off, even if only for myself.

Crap, the biggest flakes were only 4x4?  If I had known that, I would have whipped up some squarey MGS snowflakes, seeing as to how I'm an accuracy freak for the most part.  But I don't want Yzan's effort to go to waste, either!  I'M OFFICIALLY TORN NOW.   :-\

Theoretically, the super-big snowflakes were meant to be directly in front of the player's field of view.  (At least that's how I justified it to myself, haha)  They'll probably make more sense once I start playing around with the deltas.

Oh, the snow is gonna travel a lot faster in the final version.  :)  I'm thinking about using BGCtrls to simulate periodic wind gusts, as well.  I think it'll be worth the extra coding effort, for sure.

Fog should also be easily disabled, as well.  I might use a simple BGCtrl enable trigger to do so, which will let the user decide if they want to use the fog by simply changing one value.  :)

Okay, I may have just lost my mind in regards to the snow.  Since I do like the original game's snow and these new fancy snow effects that Yzan made, I think I'll include both effects.  Most likely, I'll end up using the same code for either snow layers, so I'll just give the player the choice to enable their preferred snow type via BGCtrl triggers.  :)

Of course, this means more coding, but honestly, not all that much.  :)  And I still have yet to do the lens flares, haha.
