I personally would be glad to contribute on both cases, I only require motivation on the graphics side. I don't feel like I'm a great spriter, and the Guild usually don't give positive criticism when I sprite.

But I'm an excellent coder, despite the projects I worked on (The entire Dead Dance game and Diddy Kong {Still a WIP}). I even joined the OriMugen project to see if I can contribute. My only problem is that I never frequent the forum to see if anyone needs me services, nor anyone personally asked me to help.

And that is exactly what the database is expected to counteract, I had no idea you coded and I have been here since 2007.

I admit, my brain process isn't all here at the moment so it took me opening the thread to realize what you meant by "matchmaking". Then it went through the whole "wait how many women are on this site, is this a gay hook up thread" etc etc etc.

This thread is a much better idea than that. Me and Bia meeting and collaborating has lead to some wonderful things. :)

 :P

I'm game, But it would have to be in an environment that is open and welcome to all, otherwise you'll have database no one will use because they're sick of trolls and corrupt mods.
ಠ_ಠ

Plus someone will have to monitor it, weeding out the leaches who will pull the old "I'll help, send me your rare character*leaks*"--That alone will make or break the idea.

At first I would collect names in a thread then go from there. If things go according to plan a board or a website of its own would be the next step.

A very rough format for the thread list;

CHARACTERS

Rajaa
Coding, Sprite & Sound Ripping etc.
REP *****VET
Various characters

Comments: Likes long walks on the beach and Naruto.

Cybaster

STAGES

REP ***WK (Well Known)

Opinions and ideas are welcome.

Agreed, tall order for this site.

SPEAKING OF WHICH, when is the next SF2NES beta coming out?! I'm dying for some NES Hakan action!

ONTOPIC: I really can't think of any really dedicated spriters. Most spriters I've seen RARELY get full-on dedicated to single projects, probably since it gets boring drawing several hundred sprites of the same character.

There are exceptions (Balthazar being the most prominent and awesome) but it's a rarity.

Again, the database isn't just for coders and spriters. I admit the main concern seems to be a lack of dedicated spriters though.

Is it that you coders are losing interest in coding chars from other games or would you just like to do something new?

I believe your dream spriter is out there somewhere, they just need a little push.

Everybody has a dream spriter, but a dream spriter that is willing to sprite a whole sheet is very rare.
Spriters such as Balthazar or Diepod already have dedicated coders.
As for other good spriters (Chamat, walt, Rolento, IronMugen), they either code themselves or help other people with spriting thanks to their skills, but never to do a complete spritesheet (well, almost never).

I'm also pretty sure coders will never loose interest as long as stuff hasn't been converted or that a version of their favourite character made to THEIR liking hasn't been made. I'm really not worried about this.

it's probably already been said, but when someone comes forward with a quality spritesheet, there is generally no lack of coders willing to code it

at least in my experience

I have a few and the experience is great, first I had JeffPR as partner (helped me with Eric, Gai and ripped/fixed sprites for my PI chars) but he dissapeared, his last works were for Magus' Wildcat. Actually now I've some partners like Felo, Dampir and david_bazbal :D

Also, I would team someone for a screenpack, I wanted to make a NES Megaman screenpack for my lifebars but my knowledge is limited in that aspect u_u (also for my AGP project)

Oh we're just talking about any sort of collab? Well shoots.

I think the closest thing I had to a direct partner was DGJ, who basically gave me an incomplete Bonkers, said "finish it," and told me how a helper works.

Ren Idagawa is a post-ex-facto collaberation since I handed him over to The_None to finish up since I was in over my head with that char (I went from simple two-but ton charas to a BBB adaptation o_O ).

Rolento helped sprite two basics with Burnin' Leo and may or may not be involved in a future project of mine.

Finally, Cyanide gave me the Artmoney table I used for making Mr. Jones, and gave me advice on how to build my own when I was looking at Matrimelee.

I like this idea very much, now let's continue to express our thought and opinions upon it. It would be cool to have this workable for the community. It can increase that creativity motor, in the mugen community even the more.  8)

Exactly.

Thanks for your input thus far guys. I was hoping at least a few lurkers would say something by now though.

Interesting idea.

When I'm back up and running I intend on continuing spriting Amy and then I'll no doubt code her myself. It is a good idea to collaborate with a decent coder but you need a dedicated partner because if your spriter or coder loses interest then you are left with half a project which could potentially lead to something amazing.

Take Bazbar's Streetfighter edits as an example. Basara has took the lead on coding his Joe but unless someone shows interest in his other characters they'll fade into obscurity.

Cap-Rock's Blaze is another example though but luckily Zero-Sennin took over after several years and she was finally finished.

I would collaborate with someone with Amy but I have in my mind how I would like her mechanics to work so I find it would be more beneficial to learn to code her myself.

Over at CvG their is numerous sprite artists but they specialise in single sprites that never truly evolve into full characters.

Their is still a dedicated bunch of sprite artists here just looking at Silent Ripper, Basara, Sean Alty, Diepod, Baltazar and CvS Abstract.

Like I say some collaborations really do work but both parties need dedication and a computer that doesn't give up itself too.

I can't believe I forgot to respond to this.

I no long work on the project, and the remaining members are currently not working on the project either. There was a new project one of the members was working on but as far as I know it's on hold.

Much love to ya bro for bringing it up, not many are really out to better the community by promoting the 'unity' part of it. I hope this takes off, so many awesome characters get left behind. Hech, I stumbled onto a coder who wanted to do street clothes Cody only after I'd been in mugen 2 years, 4 months later, Boom street clothes alpha Cody ready for coding.

Maybe a project list search parameters can be on said profiles too, streamline the hunt ex-

Characters of interest:
Carmen Sandiego
CVS style Fighter's History Ray
Alpha Style Lucia
Bayonetta
The Question
Capcom style Vash the stampede

And so on.

Can't recall; was the streamlined set of Faux-Bruce's sprites finished?

No, I finished the body on all his sprites, but the head needs to be redrawn on like 85% of the sprites.

Might help if you make less of this:

Kind of crap. This is a warning too.

As for collaborations, Ive helped as many people as I've been able to help. And I plan on doing it as long as its feasible.

Cad: Sounds workable for an initial update; may be worth passing it over to Bia if not already done so.
