I'm also under the impression that people keep neglecting data from the game, do you guys know how PotS made his original characters? He actually studied every single game he referenced, down to the core. Doing this properly requires understanding how the original system was made, not just winging it.

Chotto happens to be one of the few exceptions of authors taking Mugen to "serious business" levels.

But seriously, why is that? He must be doing it for money or something. Isn't creating stuff for Mugen suppose to be free? I know Kamekaze's stuff is serious business too, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't mind if I ask him for permission. Unlike Chotto, that's a someone I don't want to deal with.

There's no situation here. Kovak, please don't feel bad, you were not aware of how Chotto originally felt about his work being touched. I won't speak for Chotto because I'm not sure where he stands in this but, in the Japanese Mugen community there is a strict guideline of respecting other people's creations. They are highly offended when something like this occurs. Regardless, just because he's been making characters for 10+ years doesn't put him above you as a person so don't be discouraged from contributing more work here.

Beside I still look forward to editing chorchoryu sfxtk ryu and dg old cvs ryu. But still need to hear from them if they are fine with it.

A big thank you to ScourgeSplitter for shedding light on the situation for those who did not know.
It's not as strict as it was several years ago, but there is a form of community ethic present and having that respect broken is quite rude.

Though these days it is hard to identify who is inactive or not, especially when you are not part of said community,
This is an aspect every side should know, and there is by no means any ill will meant unless a misunderstanding occurs - be it by miscommunication or simple confusion - or you start shit.

I thought we were beyond this stuff. Whatever the "japanese Mugen community" feels about you that stuff doesn't belong here and if anyone was threatening you on this site please report it. Just make it clear you're editing and do what you want. It's ridiculous for someone to get mad at you for "plagiarizing his Ryu".

It's petty. I couldn't imagine, for example, being mad that people are releasing edits of stages I made. Good for them, I hope they looked through my coding and learned from it in the process. Some of my favorite creators on this forum do edits or started with edits at the very least. It's a good way to begin.

Oh and any of you out there that are still stuck up about people using your work, please try and let it go. I used to be like that. A lot of us used to be like that. And it didn't lead to anything good. Mugen is the worst hobby to be like that about.

Actually the worst game to have this sort of drama was Ultimate knight windom XP. Take it from a guy that was admin of 2 windom forums and signed up to 4 different ones. One can only imagine the flamewar drama there.
But yeah, Mugen's a hobby and we should be chill with it. its no biggie really.
