hello all.this may be may second post on the forum and so, I will share some of my works.I've already advanced on my sprite now, but I will post my step by step so far. I just wanna share my works let's dig in...this is how I start to work out a sprite. or somehow... I love the graphic aspect of blazblue and I want to do something in that style. i'm using Paint tool sai, photoshop and graphic gale to work. since i'm kinda starting, i'm just using fully the SAI. when comes to color, i'm using photoshop. i may try to do some work with GALE for animations. (omg.. I'm seeing jupiter's right calf and looks horrible! :X ) this is how I'm coloring the sprite line. well, that's all for now. please drop me a comment or suggestion. thanks
Any chance you'd like to work on arcade style? As for her move sets for her basic moves I suggest looking up some of Tia's sprites from Breakers Revenge, a few from Vanessa of KOF and some of Rainbow Mika's throws/slams.
hi rgveda! I didn't understand about of "arcade style"what did you mean?as for moveset. yes! this may help me to a lot! thank you so much. do you have a sprite sheet for mika and vanessa? as for the process now, i've added another sprite for test. just to compare.the outline on the left sprite was grey, but it was a mistake. i'm making it darker later. so.. if anyone can see the sprite base, let me know
Unfortunately I don't have Vanessa or R. Mika's sprites.I'm referring to this style when I mentioned arcade style.
ah, I understand now. I planned to work on a style similar as blazblue size and details. since the sprites are bigger, they're easier to animate and add detail, specially in the face.I love kof and snk style, but that style of spriting is sooooo small that I don't have patience to do that. that's why I like arc sys sprite style. even the kof 12 and 13 are a bit smaller than blazblue, but the details are so great. I may think that that style is easy for me..that's why I'm working on that way.
I just zoom in and zoom out most of the time just using Paint. I noticed there's a pattern to how the pixels are arranged. But it does take a lot of patience. I am glad you are trying something different. My only advice is you don't quit and be open to feedback whether good or bad as many sailor spriters gave up already. Is Jupiter the only character you'll be working on or all the sailors? Also, are you the one who sprited this?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4KSCIAzRus
advice taken. I will continue until something inside me is broken hahaI always open to any feedback, even the bad one make you wanna work harder, IMO.to tell you the truth, I wanted to do some sailor moon fighting, but the lack of story to make, is a bit a drawback. I will work on this jupiter and see if I can work on another, and another.and, that sailor moon on the youtube link, wasn't me. but it looks awesome. I will take some ideas from that video i'm painting the outline...
just as we exchanged post, I was speedworking on the sailor moon with the green background that you passed me.this is a speed work trying to get a grasp of that resized spritedone without thinking. haha.please bear in mind the proportions are not mine and somehow, resized, looks kinda crappy.just flat colors at the moment...
so.. no new replies from anyone. so sad..haha, just kidding.. i'm still working on the spritesmy last post was some speed sprite based on some really small sprite to my likeness.so I resized to a blazblue size type.but, I will work on that sprite later.let's continue with sailor jupiter.this is some added colorlater I will show some shading
Just curious. Why draw her super form and not the original? Also if you're going with her super costume her brooch should be in a shape of a heart, her choker should have a star, and you're missing her rose earrings.

I will think about changing the super version details. what do you suggest? which version do you think I should do?Alex Sinigaglia said, May 07, 2014, 01:38:14 pmI haven't posted here before, but I started watching this topic. You are very good at this.alex sinigaglia! i've draw your attention! mygod. my next target is chamat and armentis hahahajokes aside. thanks for the comments. this boost me up to make more works. let me finish some stuff and I will post more steps done.
Mizuho said, May 08, 2014, 12:12:57 amyou got me there. haha. I will think about changing the super version details. what do you suggest? which version do you think I should do?The only disadvantage to the super form is that there's more details which means more work and time needed. The back ribbon is troublesome on certain moves because it requires more animation like maybe doing a charge or movement that requires the ribbon to be animated. Also the SuperS back ribbon don't look right at certain angles. Just look at all the animators who drew them and they've looked inconsistent with could range from them hanging flatly or slightly folded. If you're going with a whole set of sailors, classic or original form is less time consuming. Also Saturn's original form is much better than her supers form. You could also try a fan made one by stefanolattanzio though I suggest getting rid of those long back ribbons.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-IRlyz-lWYhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IoddayJs7M
♥-♥ mAdLaX ♥-♥ said, May 08, 2014, 07:46:43 amI envy most of the people that can sprite very well.let me know when you find it so I can envy too do you have a gallery, madlax? didn't found it. well. I'm gonna remake the whole sprite as RGVeda suggested. a normal Sailor Jupiter is better than the super Sailor Jupiter.but, in the meanwhile, I'm posting the skin color applied. maybe an another layer is better for the shadow? any suggestions? I want to emulate the blazblue style for coloring. but seems I'm lacking of something. drop me any idea, please?
hello all! sorry for the disappearance. I was kinda sick and recovering. but, let's retake the remaking of sailor jupiter.as rgveda told me, It would be better to make a normal sailor jupiter sprite. so I remade and tweak a bit the prior sprite. the base colors are from another concept image. let's post it!as usual, I've worked it on Sai and later, the base colors are applied on pshopi'm kinda worried about the shading, but, scold me and correct me when you see it in my next post
well. here is it. the shaded sprite. please, tell me how to improve it. pretty please? the faceless jupiter is still faceless.. I will try to make it
Looks pretty good. If you want to get into the nitty gritty her forward leg needs a little fix. The calf should be a little bigger than the leg running behind it, 'as is' it visually recedes because of its size but doesn't make sense when compared with the back leg. The same goes for the foot, it looks smaller than the BLegs but they should be roughly the same size as they are roughly in the same spatial plane. You could just fix the back leg too, the upper BLeg looks good but the lower BLeg is the problem causer.
Blazblue sprites overall uses 4 shades for pretty much everything (even in metallic details). The shading is pretty spot on, I would add one more shade to the skirt and shoes.Looking good.
well.. believe me or not, I've redone the sprite in some parts. please check.. I've tryed to fix the calf issue that Eckzein pointed. also the boots. and fisher king skirt and shoes shading suggestion. old vs new please, help?
Mizuho said, June 01, 2014, 03:37:04 amwell.. believe me or not, I've redone the sprite in some parts. please check.. I've tryed to fix the calf issue that Eckzein pointed. also the boots. and fisher king skirt and shoes shading suggestion. please, help? The skirt looks nice and front leg looks pretty good. Back leg needs a little more tweaking. Her calf muscle or the bulge that's happening in the middle of the BLower Leg should be moved up slightly. Secondly, her BLower Leg should be connected to her BUpper leg. If you just tweak the line of her knee to match the line of her BLower legs shin than you should be fine. (draw a line connecting the two through the forward leg and you'll see)You've fixed her Back arm which is good but I think you overcompensated with the arm on the left. Its previous size would be a good fit for the current proportions. I would also move her abdominal line a smidge back to the left. From what I can see you've redone the sprite in more than just some parts, you reworked quite a bit, the overall feel is still there.

I cannot see that. maybe you can give me a hand? thanks
HekuttaSaint said, June 01, 2014, 11:11:18 pmThere is a mistake on the "Tiara." Maybe is just me but it does not seem accurate.yeah, that's why i've redone all the sprite with the faceless one. since I'm having issue on how I could make the face, left it with out it for the moment. is pretty kinky to be accurate in that tiny frame space. thanks for pointing that. I will take this for reference when I apply the faceedit: this is more or less I think the tiara will come out. but I think I will do it with more time and Accuracy
Got a little carried away but hope this helps.Am using simple value to show volume/planes but not space and not light and shadow.I think the problem with the back leg is that the swelling of the knee isn't being accounted for. The line does connect to the shin but it does so in an unnatural way.Edit: This is your sprite, you don't have to make all the nitpicky changes if think it looks good.

I will redraw that leg. if you see that is wrong, then is wrong. I must FIX IT!
well. six months.. .that's quite time from my last post here. I have been... busy, very..and so, i'm returning to this place. so I can share a new work in progress.. also i'm trying to finish the previous sailor jupiter. trying new process and methods to be more accurated in the work. so. well. this is my new sprite. is quite rough and not finished yet. but since i'm coming back here, i'm gonna post more often to show the process. the sprite is based on one attack from the mercury's combo attack kick. the game is the arcade banpresto beat em up. so.. well. i'm coming back
It looks like a good start! I can see the hands will probably end up changing, they could use some better form. I'm excited to see how this turns out. Welcome back!
Alex Sinigaglia said, November 24, 2014, 09:27:34 pmWelcome back! thanks. I will try again, to maintain the regularity of my posts ink said, November 24, 2014, 09:32:19 pmIt looks like a good start! I wanted to do something quick and turned out like crap hahahawell. It turns out that painting the lines from scratch is driving me crazy. I will do the basic outline of the char and... let's see how I paint it again. I have try new stuff.
