So I had the idea of taking mechanics from megaman battle network, and putting them into a 2d fighting game area.
For those who dont know what the game is, basically it operates on a 3x6 playing field, with a deck of 30 cards, or chips in the game's universe, while having the classic buster mechanics.

Basically, I see it as a 4 button fighter with a crazy amount of assists that are ever changing and interchangable, with interswitchable moves.
The alignment of certain "assists" would add up to a hyper, and would automatically come up on what would equal a meter of 5.

Essentially the buttons would go as follows.
-Basic Light attacks, allowing for basic combo strings.
-Specials with essentially act like smash brothers, holding back and the button to do things reminiscent of Navi Cust related things like anti-damage or a shield (or in this case more of a parry), pressing without direction allowing for lemons and holding for a charge shot that varies upon character as it should. Forward with the button allowing for a weakened verson of the charge shot perhaps?
-Chip Usage, or essentially assist, allowing for a maximum of 5 within a combo string, or in general, which much like the actual games, I hope will be customizable and limited to a 30 maximum, 3 max of a single chip, with a 45 chip library (at the least. Need room for variation.) while being able to pick a program advance.
Examples would include:
Invisible-Invulnerability for 2 in game seconds, 2 to allow for a short amount of time so it isnt abused or anything.
Long Sword-Self explanatory.
And something like Life Sword for example would just be a typical hyper in which time will stop and what have you.

The idea would be for chips to be able to be cancelled into attacks just like anything else, should they be non projectile moves, while having a somewhat weaker effect over projectiles, which obviously would have a nice amount of lag.
As for Program Advances, perhaps a hidden power meter of sorts? Iunno lol.
As for the rotation of chips, they wouldn't instantly fill. Navi cust would be a thing, but not in the way it is in the normal games. I see it more as something that gradually fills quite fast, and once activated, dumps any remaining chips for a fresh batch of 5, or a program advance.

And that would be the fourth button. The activation of navi cust, filling in the chips.

Perhaps there could be 6 buttons in game with the inclusion of chip shuffle and another attacking method, but I digress.

Megaman.exe could easily be a zoning character, as where Protoman.exe would end up more of a rushdown. Hell Roll could even recover without the need of chips that could have the ability to do so.

Given the nature of the limited attacking methods, infinite combos definitely wouldn't be much of an issue, but I don't see long combos being an issue either, as you could let off your basic light attack combo string, into a charged special, back into light combo strings, into a chip, and so forth.

Ideally, I'd see 10 different types of basic light attacks[A], 2 special attacks{B}, then the 45 varies chips, which at minimum would be 10 additional attacks, should the selection be 3 of 10 attacking chips[C].
As follows, A, f.A, b.A, c.A, c.f.A, c.b.A, [in air/ia.]A, ia.f.A, ia.b.A, ia.d.A, B, b.B, then C.
The ability to use B mid air I dont see being a thing.

Oh god SearchMan.exe Just imagine. The lock on mechanics. Gundam Wing anyone?
GutsMan.exe could earthquake things.
Bass could be bass.
Colonel.exe could leave a stun effect with colforce -See BN5/6-
Plantman.exe could grapple.
GLYDE,EXE COULD BE RELEVANT.

So, what do yall people say? Anyone wanna join forces to make this happen?

I loved playing those games when I was younger. I would interested, but I have enough games on my plate: NZCR and PCEA to name a few. :\  I'd really like to see where this goes.

I had an idea to do something like a couple years ago in game maker (never happened). Even earlier this year I tried doing this in mugen (I got bored with it eventually). It would be awesome if you could make this happen.

Also, shouldn't this be in Idea Engineering?
