I really think zombie Liu Kang was just supposed to be a joking way to include him in new MK games without him being a part of the plot. Which IIRC he was in the plot anyway...not sure about that actually I don't remember

He still did a fair share, actually. In MKD, he and Ermac worked together to free his friends from Onaga's control.

That is, if Kung Lao's dead.

He's pretty much dead, yes. Shao Kahn snapped his neck from behind after he singlehandedly fended off Quan Chi and Shang Tsung combined... oh, and Kintaro. Man, the more I think about it, the more I realize the fights in MK9's story were such a clusterfuck.

and people who will spit into the glass until that's fixed."

ZOMBIE CYBORG SUB ZERO!
That would be just to OP ö_Ö

Well, Quan Chi could bring some of them back, but they'd look different and/or act different.  That's been stated, but it would be different to have a spector/shadow version of Liu Kang.  Maybe his soul got mixed with Kung Lao's.  That is, if Kung Lao's dead.

Call him "Liu Lao" or  "Kung Kang" XD

Mhhhhhh how about "Lao Kang"? ;D

I think they will definitely bring some old chars back if they use Quan Chi as a plot device to explain it, and maybe add some later via DLC.^^
