----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I decided to upload the source code of this tools, i don't have so much time to develop it
so if anyone wants to improve it there is it

The tools are coded in c++ with wxDevCpp (some with 7.3 and anothers with 7.4 hehe.. sorry for that
some tools are not going to compile with 7.4 but if you know wxWidgets and c++ is really easy to fix the code
just replace al strings "string" with wxT("string") )

You are free to modify the code and release modifications, just give me the credit for the original app
or you can check the code to see what the tool does and write your own

here's the link

Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty

you will find two folders "MSM2.1" is the original mugen 1.0 tool source code
"wMSM2.1" contains the tools modified to work with winmugen, the folders that are only in "MSM2.1" are tools that work ok
for winmugen and doesn't need to be modified

Finally yes is the 2.2a source code, 2.1 it's just the folders name

Original Post:

NOTE: Now is compatible with both mugen 1.0 and winmugen

check the mugen.cfg file screen config (is configured on 640x480 if u have a 16:9 wide screen try another res) or try pressing ALT+TAB and go to mugen again, if this not work tell me

I have a 16:9 screen, but it does that on every res. The only thing that fixes it is ALT+TAB and going to mugen again. That's the only error I've seen so far. Will there be a fix for this?

This sounds a good idea but you are going to alienate people easily with the vague explanation of what it is. The lack of images, the lack of decent videos.

Nobody will know how to use it and nobody will bother learning, better explanation please.

man try this mugenstorymode exe http://alumnos.informatica.utem.cl/~cgonzalez/cosas/MSM2.0cmdPatch.rar

this one uses the normal "CMD" black console to launch mugen and not the ShellExecute c++ method
maybe this one works for you tell me if not to try another thing

It still happens with the patch. But I noticed it always happens if in mugen.cfg fullscreen = 1.
So I have to leave it at 0 and it does not happen.

EDIT: I found a fix. Instead of using fullscreen = 1
Under in mugen.cfg you have it like so:

;The video resolution defaults to the same as the game resolution.
;You can force an alternate resolution by uncommenting the lines
 ;below.
Width  = 1280
Height = 720

or whatever your screenpack resolution is.

don't know if this is happening to everyone else, but for me it destroys my computer.  I tried to start it up and it intantly closes  but stays open in the background where even in the task manager I am unable to close it and says it cant read the system def.  it also changes all my icons and crashed my computer, which is usually a virus :/

First of all to use the addon, you're not supposed to click on mugen.exe, you're supposed to click on MugenStoryMode.exe
And if your computer crashed because you clicked on mugen.exe, it's because you don't have your mugen directories setup right.

maybe you don't understand what a COMPUTER CRASH is.  I have two computers, the one I did this with crashed and everything is wiped. what happened is I added your addons to my mugen and launched  the mugen.exe and that happened so explain

man

1 - This addon is only compatible with Mugen 1.0 final release, it won't work on "winmugen" old versions if you use it on winmugen yes the things is gonna happen is this program is going to enter on a INFINITE LOOP because the log file used to check the mugen actions in winmugen is different for the mugen 1.0 log actions

2 -  As i say if i include a mugen with the program is for use the addon with that version of mugen, if you used a mugen 1.0 then i don't know what happens

3 - I don't know if you copy all files neccesaries of the program to your mugen (supossing its a 1.0 version), this programs needs several files like MSMConfig.dat, MSMConfigRelease.dat , triggerselect.sdef etc, if you only copy the exe or something like that is obvious it is not goint to work

4 - Even if you copy all the necessary files on a 1.0 version of mugen, if you go to Story Mode and play the default story, the default story is configured to use the system.def file located on "data/system.def" probably on your screenpack that files not exists and u have something like "data/screenpackfolder/system.def" so its obvious the system.def is not founded in your mugen

Man here's the patch, the problem is a conflict between the music and the video,
in this programa audio and video uses the same player, but i forgot to stop the music
when you play a video to "free" the player, so the video won't work

I'd also like a more in depth tutorial on how to setup the character unlocking. I'm not sure what I have to do with the triggerselect.sdef or if I have to edit my regular select.def

And thanks for your quick responses. I want to make sure this program is bug free and easy to use for everyone! =)

EDIT: I downloaded the new patch. Same problem. Main intro video plays. But the same video for saga does not play, only the music plays.

Yes look you have 2 files the first it's the one called "the select.def file defined in configuration",
to set this file go to "MSMConfigurator.exe" , and set it in the "select.def file modified by triggers", by default
this file is pointed to "data/select.def", this file is the one your mugen uses when you launch it alone (direct on mugen.exe), this file will be only used when you direct launch mugen.exe but it will be temporally OVERWRITED
when you launch mugen in the mugen story mode menu, so for the character unlock system the content of this file
doesn't matter, even if you are not going to use directly mugen.exe you can leave it in blank
we call this file the "Default Select.def" (is important to don't encrypt this file)

The second file is the "triggerselect.sdef" this is the dinamyc select.def file, when you launch mugen in the mugen story
mode menu, the content of this file is processed by the program and a select.def file is generated (we call this the "Generated file") this "Generated file" replaces the
"Default Select.def", then mugen is launched, and mugen loads the "Generated file", next when mugen finish loading
the chars, the "Default Select.def" is restored, hiding the contents of the "Generated file" so the thing you have to modify is the "triggerselect.sdef", next let go learn about the syntax of this file

"triggerselect.sdef" is like a common select.def file but it haves trigger support
to make char/stage unlock  (really you can change everything in select.def with this, the arcade orders can be changed too)

here's a sample "triggerselect.sdef"

NULL
NULL
chara
charb
;BEGINTRIGGERSELECT
;1
NULL
secretchar
;ENDTRIGGERSELECT
charc
chard
NULL
NULL

in this file, we have a line modifier block defined by trigger 1

;BEGINTRIGGERSELECT  <---- This is the block start
;1  <---- This is the trigger number of the modifier
NULL   <--- This will be in the generated file if the trigger is deactivated
secretchar <---- This will be in the generated file if the trigger is activated
;ENDTRIGGERSELECT  <--- This is the block end

so if you have trigger 1 deactivated the "Generated file" content will be this

NULL
NULL
chara
charb
NULL
charc
chard
NULL
NULL

but if the trigger 1 is activated the "Generated file" content will be this

NULL
NULL
chara
charb
secretchar
charc
chard
NULL
NULL

obviously you can put all the line modifiers blocks you want in the file

i hope you understand this, if not tell me any question u have

yes but you have to set the a chapter to activate trigger 1 when passed in the story creator
and you can put NULL instead of kfm to set a empty block when squall is hidden

probably the trigger 1 is activated yet, for that squall appears, you have to deactivate the triggers

go to "MSMConfigurator.exe" and press "RESET ALL TRIGGERS TO ZERO", with that all the triggers will be set to OFF

success!

Alright now I'm getting the hang of it. Just takes a while to learn this "new" style of mugen.
I noticed you mention a save and load option, will you complete that later?

probably on new versions but the problem is i don't know what to save/load jejeje

look the previous version of the program (Mugen Story Mode 1.8b)
has a save / load function, in that version "SAGAS" and char unlock system doesn't exists, and only 1 MHD story can be loaded to storymodemugen, the story loads and in each chapter you have 3 buttons "save / load / normal mugen"
the "system.def" defined in the chapter was loaded with normal mugen if you launch it from that chapter
and it acts like a "char unlock system", and you can save/load the chapter where you are in the story

when i coded the 2.0 version i want to improve so much things, i added the sagas and i create the new
unlock system, and in the development i remove the load / save option because i don't know what to save/load
but i forget to remove that text boxes in the configurator, but if i remove it now, i have to modify the internal format
of the config DAT files, and i make the patch config incompatible with the original 2.0 version
so i'm waiting for something to put there in future versions

(if you want to check this old version is here http://alumnos.informatica.utem.cl/~cgonzalez/cosas/MugenStoryMode1.8EnglishVersionByKamiloxnumetal.rar patch http://alumnos.informatica.utem.cl/~cgonzalez/cosas/MugenStoryMode1.8bPatch.rar)

I see. Well this 2.0 version is very functional!

The only bug is that I still have the same video playing problem.

EDIT HERE ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS:
It would be great if we could use 24bit color bitmaps for the menu images so there is no color loss.
There should be two options after you select story mode: "Continue" or "Start New Game" (this would reset all triggers to zero).

pd: in the images you can use gif, bmp, jpg, png, pcx, tiff, tga etc just test any format you want

24 bitmaps do work, but I notice a lot of color loss with them for some reason.

Maybe you can add the .apng  format next time.
It's a format that can be animated with way less colorloss than gif.
apng is basically animated png.

also the video/pic problems in win7 are for problems in the framework, but that framework is near to release

I've been toying with your program a little.

You really need to figure things out first.
It probably is because the folder is totally chaotic, filled with too many stuff.

Another problem I found is that the program doesn't support .wmv, but does .mpg as video formats.
It might be handy to make a list of supported formats for video too.

other than that, I personally think it's rather annoying to see the "Windows Media Player" logo
all the time the program needs to find and load your video.
Is there any chance you can fix that?

About the wmv an unsupported video formats, this programs takes your system codecs to play videos
so the supported formats depend of your system standard codecs, personally i use this codecs

http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm   (K lite codec pack, recommended the mega version)

and at the moment i don't have problems with any format...

about the "Windows media player logo", yes there's a solution, go to "MSMConfigurator.exe"
and set the video mode on "Force", then set the "Video Backend" to "WMP 10" (needs windows media player 9 or 10)
in that mode the logo isn't showed, but is less compatible than Direct Show, at least for me the 2 modes works

-----------

Finally i found another bug so i posted the 2.0 C patch, and a Debugger xd

You could use "VLC" to read video than "Windows Media Player" ... no need of codex anf it reads all formats.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

How can i put "That External Player" on the program source code, when i refer to "Windows Media Player" i'm talking about the WMP Backend (The libraries usable by other programs) Not the WMP Player "Player", and the only options i have for the moment is Direct Show Backend And Windows Media Player "Backend" (Not Player) , for that the video windows appears in the program window and i not call a external video player

I use the same codecs, so that shouldn't be the problem.
And by standar, wmv is a windows format, hard not to be compatible with.
But the program just won't load the video.

But using the wmp 9/10 fixed that

yea I have the 2.0a patch and I still got the same video problem. I'm on Windows 7.
24 bitmaps do work, but I notice a lot of color loss with them for some reason.

ok i try to fix all that

Try this build of the exe, in all video modes and in fullscreen and windowed , and tell me your results please

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OHGF92HB

i don't have windows 7 so you help me so much testing the program there

and did you try another picture formats? all have the color loss?

This fixed my video problems.

Mugenstorymode screen continues without changing the resolution ....

game screen:        mugen

[/IMG]

i see your mugen story mode is in windowed mode not fullscreen, resolution change is only for fullscreen but i add it to windowed mode if you want (don't auto maximize the window)

wait a moment i upload the portuguese patch and that

ahh i found a bug in the winmugen build too (in windowed mode) i try to fix it

ohh really for me the resolution change works,  probably it won't work on windows 7....

ahh where i put 800 x 600 x 32   dit your screen support that resolution??? (some wide screens don't support that)

if the resolution specified is not supported by your screen then the resolution don't change

try with another resolution like 1024 x 576

EDIT : I tested it, if you set an unvalid resolution for your screen it don't change anything, and in the winmugen build it  don't work for any case, so if you are using the winmugen build, is a error i'm fixing

Very cool concept, I hope Elecbyte adopts it once it is more complete. It really brings MUGEN from '90s fighting games up to more modern ones. I especially like the feature to Save/Load stories, that way we could release "DLC Story" packs throughout the community.

And i posted the 2.1b Patch for Mugen Story Creator

I tested the version 2.1 c ....
I found 2 problems:
1 - when the screen of mugenstorymode will go to the screen of mugen, occurs a empty range (this was not the case in earlier versions; the screen was continuing ...
2 - the mugenstorymode screen does not align with the screen of mugen (see image below):

Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty
About 1 : yes that's because now i "minimize" the mugestorymode window and then i launch mugen, this is because i added some code to make it compatible with winmugen (if i don't do it, winmugen completely trash the graphics in mugenstorymode window), if you want i can remove it but only for mugen 1.0, i can't remove it for winmugen

About 2 : that's normal, mugenstorymode in windowed mode is 12 pixel larger than the specified in configuration this 12 pixels are of the "title bar"

EDIT : added an alternative build for the point 1

MORE EDIT:  Posted the 2.1d Update many bugs fixed

Very happy to report 2.2 is compatible with Wine, with no errors at all (so far). :)

Playing around with it a bit more, I can't get the videos to work, same black screen as the older versions used to have all the time (tested in WMP, Direct Show and MCI). However I will mess around with the config with the players themselves to see if that can fix this.

Also, music for menus doesn't seem to play, but SFX work just fine.

The sagas/stories system seems to work fine, as does the MUGEN itself.

A reminder to any Linux users: if you use a file name remember: Capitalization counts; eg. in the saga list if you want to add 'example.MHX' make sure it is not written 'Example.MHX' or 'example.mhx', etc.

I tried it on linux with wine,  called it from command line (if i make double click windows programs can't read any file for me xd)
and i created a build with another video backend (GSTREAMER this one is only for linux) , but it don't work (i thing that because linux have gstreamer but is a windows program so wine can't link it with gstreamer)

about the music, this programs uses the same video player to play music files too ( i only hide it xd but the player is always there minimized :D ), so if the videos don't work is the same for music, but the wav sound effects have their own play method

i think the only way to make it work on linux at 100% is to build it on linux
at least build the MugenStoryMode.exe and MSMDebugger.exe for linux, so the other programs do very basic things
(i don't know if the molebox releaser is going to work on linux...., or if a compressed game is going to work on linux)
(and you can't compress a linux build with molebox, so i have to find an alternative to encrypt the trigger system and not make all the game stuff unlockable with editing the sdef files...)

but about building it on linux, the program is coded in c++ with wxwidgets framework
so wxwidgets is a cross-platform framework, there's no problem i only need to install it on linux and learn how to build it
but the problem is some part of the code uses windows.h (the part for changing the screen resolution) but is a very little amount of code..

mmm i don't know what to do xd

another thing can be...
is to make the windows video backends to work

I don't know but it seems the direct show backend needs directx
The WMP10 backend needs WMP9 or 10 ,  so if you installs this things on wine maybe.....
for this two backens you also need windows codecs, so you need to install a windows codec pack into wine
without codecs nothings is going to be played

The MCI backend is still buggy, at least in windows i can't it get to work ok jeje...

Sorry but my focus is the program to do complicated things, unavailable for now on mugen
and complicated things are complicated to understand xd, .... really i still think is really easy to use this tool

yes just post what you want to be fixed and i fix it, i don't know portuguese so it's hard for me to fix that

finally about the exes

mugen.exe  --> don't use it directly
MugenStoryMode.exe --> This is the one you use to play

MugenSagaCreator.exe and MugenStoryCreator.exe ->  These Two are for create and design stories not to play

MSMDebugger.exe -> These one is exactly like mugen story mode but you can freely move through story chapter without passing it, i create this so if you are creating a story of 37 chapters when you add the chapter 38 , don't pass again the first 37 ... xd , is supposed you need to encrypt the stories with the MugenStoryMode.exe and this one aren't going to be available on released games

MugenMoleboxReleaser.exe -> This one is for encrypt your game

MSMConfigurator.exe -> General configuration of the program (Modifies MSMConfig.dat and MSMConfigRelease.dat)

MSMConfiguratorPublic.exe -> A configurator with only the language and video options available (Only modifies MSMConfig.dat), is used by the encrypter, for a released game so only the basics options can be changed

Thats all

Thanks for the info on it. I tried installing WMP9, it runs buggy for me, but I finally got it to sort of tun AVI files, and mp3s play perfectly. Unfortunately there is no change in MSM, though.

I don't think, honestly, it would be worth building it for Linux, even if you could. Unless it was a quick easy thing, I wouldn't spend time on it, as not too many MUGEN users need it.

It would be better than the storyboards were used instead of the videos, the videos are usually very heavy in mbs.

A storyboard can weigh 10 mbs and the video 300 mbs  much difference.
;------------------------------------------------------------------
Seria mejor que se usaran los storyboards en vez de los videos, los videos suelen ser muy pesados en mbs.

Un storyboards puede pesar 10 mbs,  y el video 300 mbs demasiada diferencia.

I prefer to make a storyboard to make a video, you can make high quality storyboards, which in a very heavy video.

So you could just hold on to it, and wait for people to release Sagas and Stories that you can DL. Or appreciate the fact that some creators may use this to make more complete products with it. Its actually pretty great.

i'm sorry but i don't know how to handler sff/def , and if i try for now is impossible, i need to port all the program to a platform like sdl or allegro (and i have to learn sdl or allegro xd) and i don't have time for that now, another posibility is to load mugen with a "fake" 1 round battle with 2 null characters (no moves, no images nothing), and with a null screenpack (no powerbars, no energybars nothing), and code the storyboard in the stage xd, and using triggers in the character control the duration time of this "fake" battle, this "null" screenpack will not affect the game because mugen story mode can load mugen with different screenpacks via command line

;----------------

Okay, after working on a sort of test story, I have a few minor suggestions:

For files (like preview pictures, HTMLs, music for example) you could add a "Browse..." button to find the file, so we don't have to type out "Bitmaps/SagaFolder/Image.bmp" for each time.

Another is the ability to edit the info on the Stories in the Saga Configurator. For example if you want to change the story's picture (or  name), at the moment it seems you must delete the story from the list and then re-insert it again.

Just really minor things, although the first one would help quite a bit.

There's no way to put the Story Mode option on the Main Menu?
It would be better instead of "Story Mode" "Arcade Modes" "Exit".

Also, how do i make an HTML page as an story chart?

would it be possible for you to add a third option as well? So I can have "STORY", "ARCADE" (Which would be just the normal mugen stuff as it is right now) and a third mode for anything we want like for example a "MISSION" mode or "CHALLENGE" mode?

I'm aware that you can already do that by using story mode and coding mission or challenge mode stages/fights instead but for the sake of not having like 3 versions of this thing in the same mugen if would be nice to be able to have them all in the same executable/front end. Shouldn't be really hard as all you would need is make sure each mode reads only the files it should and ignore the duplicates of the other modes' files.
pls

mmmm interesing, probably i can modify the "sagalist.sdef" file, and make a thing like this

saga1.mhx,mode1
saga2.mhx,mode2
saga2.mhx,mode2
saga3.mhx,mode3
saga4.mhx,mode3

It could also be nice if the user could configure the sagas' selector to look like a regular character select screen, to make it more similar to actual fighting games.

very cool thing you got here.

wondering if a couple of the following could be implemented in the future:
- ability for the player to choose who to pick from at certain points
- not a set enemy path. what i mean is program randomly selects from a pool of who will fight
- change match type. ie, you fight a round in 1v1. then next a team match, then 1v3, etc.

if you want to pass on your story, you can but you have to correctly export the sagas, stories, and etc, files (pictures, htmls , music) and all that dependencies of the story

Man, this is great addon to mugen  :o
But, I don't now why, triggers don't work good. For example, sometimes when I close StoryMode and again play, then it doesn't save my progress. Or some sagas which should be locked is unlocked. I don't now why it's happen. It not always but sometimes. I use 2.2 version your StoryMode and 1.00 Mugen RC8. Do you have any idea, why it doesn't good?

Try to get out of mugen story mode using the esc key to the main menu every time, don't close it with the X close button, really i don't know what it's happening probably a bug...

the triggers are stored in a file called "triggers.mstg", you can check it with a hex editor to se if it changes when you activate a trigger, never delete this file and never compress it, you can copy/paste this file to restore your triggers to a previous state

another thing is the generation seed, is used to create the correct values for the triggers if you change it, you need to reset everything with "reset all triggers to zero"...

i'm going to check the program and try to fix bugs..

So, I use Hex Editor and probably I find problem.
All triggers are saving in file 'triggers" and it works well.
But when I play saga 2 times, then, if i  think, this triggers are double. And than your program can't read them correctly.
For example: I play saga first time and after in Hex Editor, trigger value is 'e3'. All is well. But when i play saga second time trigger value changes to 'e4'. And StoryMode don't see it.
I hope you know what I mean :)
Do you know, how repair it?

So, I use Hex Editor and probably I find problem.
All triggers are saving in file 'triggers" and it works well.
But when I play saga 2 times, then, if i  think, this triggers are double. And than your program can't read them correctly.
For example: I play saga first time and after in Hex Editor, trigger value is 'e3'. All is well. But when i play saga second time trigger value changes to 'e4'. And StoryMode don't see it.
I hope you know what I mean :)
Do you know, how repair it?

sorry i tried to find the bug but i haven't found it, i released the source code, check if you can fix it

Well it does, it just takes some learning. You make a ll the menues, and configure variables to unlock characters, etc. It still has bugs and a few features that could be added, though.

He hasn't been around in a while, so I'm not sure thats happening. It doesn't interfere with normal MUGEN.exe or anything like that so you could DL it just to try it. Hopefully it will be updated, though.

I'm not sure if this problem has been asked and/or solved yet, but if there's more than one chapter in a story, and you complete the second chapter in-game, MSM will freeze. Why is this?

Hey, great tool and all. But I've got a question - how to remove a picture showing between the battles
(that it doesn't appear at all - in my Mugen i replaced it with loading screen)
Any ideas ?

Hi :)

kamilioxnumetal, do you have to modify the story file to make your own one? At the first try, I wasn't able to do that, because I made a new file and the program didn't save the progress; but then I modified the story file in the folder and it saved progress. Is there a way to do the first thing I said, with progress saved and all that?
I also have the same problem as tomur111.

Hi, glad to see you're still at it!
Well, yes, I used the mugen story creator tool to make my story; but it happened like in my previous post. By the way, it was like one year ago, I don't clearly remember everything so I should re try it, but I remember that.
I'll tell you if the same problem happens again.
...
It happened with Saga creator, not with Story creator, sorry for that.

Uh, just saw you, dbzfreak89, necrobumped this topic. Don't do that again.
Replying to your question, the tool is really user friendly.
Make your story with Mugen Saga Creator (be it DBZ story since you're a freak :P, Naruto, Bleach, Tsukihime etc.) then with Story Creator (here you set your fighters and the fight in general, it means stage, the image before the fight that shows your fighters etc.).
