Not open-source.Hey, here's an early BETA of Neku with his basic movement implemented. Yes, Neku from TWEWY. This BETA has been uploaded in the hopes of feedback. To be updated when I have more time. Likely with his gethits, then attacks and so on. Will post procedural versions.Expect debug floods for now, as he was coded rather hastily over another character of mine due to time constraints. He could also use some palettes, now that I think about it:His effects will have their own palettes.I'm aware that there's another Neku floating around, and well, not much I can do about that now. Not trying to step on any toes.Enjoy.
Helios ? I recall you're a known creator, just can't remember what you did... Anyway, this is some magnificent spriting here. Is it some sort of KOF12 style with some liberties ? Is this totally hand sprited or was it done through some 3D render or something ?I'm no sprite expert at all, but at this time, there's really nothing I can say about those sprites, except they're wonderfully detailed. The little FX on the stance really adds a lot to it too. On all his sprites, I noticed the legs aren't very shaded, but seeing the light source, it's understandable in most cases. For feedback about the sprites and style, I suggest you not only post betas here, but also post your animations in the Graphics section, with animated GIFs such as this :It will probably have more impact, and you'll be able to get more feedback.
I'm almost certain this is full 3D. (Was it Helios who made a tutorial on how to create sprites from 3D models, which I read thanks to an obscure source? probably ... my memory fails me)
I want a whole lot more information on the character, creator and what was used to make theses sprites.
Philosoraptor said, June 08, 2011, 02:14:04 am...an obscure source..."Obscure" is the only word that can be used in regards to the source, yes. The document does not entirely cover all of the tiny little details that is used in the method now, but as with any technique some evolution is inevitable. I will consider the updates as homework for interested parties as opposed to modifying said document.Thank you for the feedback so far, people. I've also animated his crouching pose now, but I'll leave that for another upload check out the initial link. He also has a horrible light attack that I'll likely replace or tweak. I'll be doing the gethits tonight, it should be done before tomorrow night if I'm lucky.
The sprites look beautiful, I don't have much to say.And yes, it was Helios that made a tutorial on how to create sprites from 3D models, Rolento is hosting it.
Seph said, June 13, 2011, 06:32:51 pm...Rolento...Gah, way to ruin the fun.My weekend was busy and I'm still feeling it. Regrettably this set me back somewhat.I'll post a newer version when it's done.
Philosoraptor said, June 15, 2011, 05:32:15 pm(for the record, the tutorial isn't currently hosted in the aforementioned source)See Current Work section, under "Helios' Spriting Tutorial using 3DSMax - PDF format" near bottom of page for said tutorial. Also, .\/.
I would have expected to find it in the LINKS OF INTEREST part, wth current work, it isn't even yours!

Firstly, TWEWY FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Secondly, ill dl now, and then give my 2 cents EDIT: 3d char doesent rly fit with my 2d chars, but thats not very relavent, is it?looks good, i would personally make him a bit skinnier (you only notice how malnourished he is AFTER u beat the game o.o)The pysch he is doing while standing (his primary pysch) should resemble more of a flame imo, like in the gameNice work
reoyoshi8 said, June 11, 2011, 03:19:41 pmThis looks incredible ...though I was not aware there was another Neku char.I know there was one Neku before the one I made, but it was crap, I at least put effort into mine. The other obviously being mine. Regardless, this Neku looks AMAZING. Very nice!
