From the trailer alone this movie made the other godzilla movies (INCLUDING 1954,84,and GMK) look like Barney the Dinosaur.
They ****ing did it. This is how Godzilla should be.

Amen to that!
As for antagionist monster...well.........monsters.
Theres rumored to be multiple monsters popping out of the world.
Ive had my eye on this movie for months now and I pray to God Garth Edwards does not screw this up.
He will make a downfall worse than Emmerich did in 98 (and yes he did try for godzilla 2014 only to be escorted out by security 10 SECONDS after he got in.)

  • Wherever theres chaos, I'll be there.
Maybe if we're lucky one of the monster Godzilla fights is Emmerich's version of Godzilla.
I know we saw that in Final Wars, but what if this time it wouldn't be such a curbstomp and we actually get a real battle?

Or more logically they'll use Anguirus since it was the first monster Godzilla ever faced.

Years later his last born was killed off by the real godzilla at where Emmerich lives at *Sydney Austrailia*

The lack of Blue Oyster Cult Godzilla song in the trailer disturbs me.

Other than that, it is looking promising as I have said before!
Sure, I would prefer that Godzilla was a guy in a rubber suit, but this is looking good enough to please me. :D

All they did was combine american godzilla with the japanese godzilla 2000. Which is great cause the original american godzilla look like shit.
Honestly the movie looks good makes me wonder if that godzilla is that baby that survive the explosion in the first american movie...

Looking good. But let's see if this will fall into the trap of most movies. Usually something on this scale is sidetracked, instead of focusing on the mystery and terror of Godzilla they focus on a main set of unlikable characters that and their story ends up being 100% unrewarding and unnecessary. The trailer  seems to on topic though so that's a good sign.

That second trailer is really great, and Bryan Cranston sells the shit out of that speech. I'm looking forward to this.

Ps. Rubber/Foam suits rock CGI.
CGI has advanced to the point where that's not really true anymore, IMO. :-\

Unless you're old and grumpy like me.
Then you will always prefer practical effects over CGI, because CGI looks dumb and not organic and something and something else. >:(

Some of the cinema magic is lost when you use CGI for everything. :(

2001: A Space Odyssey would disagree with you. :P

And I didn't even see gravity. Theatres here only carried it in 3D and I can't do 3D films. :(

Now back to Gojira. If this one delivers as much as it is looking like it will, I hope they will add Mothra on the next one.
I am a big fan of Mothra. :D

I have high hopes that this won't Man of Steel us, where they delivered a trailer showing that they got Superman and then delivered that final mess of a film.

The stuff in Gravity is literally impossible to do using practical effects. 2001 is not a good comparison. :-\

The director's previous film and the interviews he's been giving certainly seem he knows what he's doing; I'm not worried.

If Godzilla kills the other monster it won't break his character at least:p

I am a HUGE Godzilla fan. But I think the cg will definitely improve the film. Especially the destruction of cities. Having a guy in a costume step on toys just never looks good.

I wonder how they will portray his radioactive breath though. Spikes better light up 1st! I'm afraid they'll be looking to something somewhat similar in nature for realism and screw it up.

The new roar is already bugging me :(

The plot descriptions mention multiple monsters, and I do remember there being stuff somewhere that talked about how there was more monsters than just Godzilla beyond that plot descriptions. I've also seen people speculate that one of the monsters in the trailers is Rodan, but I figure they'll just do original ones for this first movie and save the classic ones for later.

Hopefully we'll get Mothra, tiny singing faeries and all.

I love how civilized the discussion is here. If this were a kaiju-centric message board, people would be griping over how Godzilla's feet look or some crap. (Yes, there have been complaints about his feet!)

I won't be seeing this for a midnight showing, but I will be in a theater somewhere opening day for it. Never would I miss my favorite monster's return to the big screen.
This thread is producing a shitload of bad grammar, at this rate it'll be a disease.

yeah their are at least 3( or the illusion of 3)if u put together the 1st teasers,The Toy, & the new Trailer ....in the teaser u see a Dead Centipede type monster in the destroyed  city , the Toy has that thing that i described personally looks like Gigan,Gyaos & clover field together lol  in the new trailer u see His "foot  or claw"smash its either a bridge or a railway  & then the "Flying Monster u see in the new trailer " why that could be a Version of the monster that comes in the Toy set, from all of the close up pics ive seen it looks to be of a Giant Flying insect but that kind of looks more like final form batra than mothra , of course ive also seen people speculate its an updated version of Daikondoru  or the Giant Condor that attacks godzilla in godzilla's Revenge , & of course speculation its also a new version of Rodan .........who knows lol

Godzilla is amphibious
Godzilla is male, not female
The atomic blast from 1954 did not kill Godzilla
Godzilla has been asleep in the Pacific Ocean for decades
The MUTO is an ancient creature, from the same time period that Godzilla existed in
Both Godzilla and the MUTO were natural enemies
Godzilla's atomic ray is consistent with previous films, though a rare occurance. Possibly because it does him harm or depleats his energy. The weapon may be more of a "last attempt" to survive, rather than a casual tool of destruction
Something resurrects the MUTO, which threatens Godzilla's survival
There could be more than one Godzilla in hibernation deep in the ocean
The information revealed from this description opens up our understanding of what Godzilla is and where he came from, as well as an idea of what the MUTO actually is. Be sure to check back often for more updates on Godzilla 2014 and take part in the Godzilla discussions in the Godzilla 2014 forums, here!

Okay, this bit I don't like. :(
The atomic breath is quite iconic and Gojira always used it freely when he felt like it.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe they found it too overpowered? I don't know. I'm trying to keep an open mind with this. I mean Japan has given godzilla new powers as well. So tweaking this one might be okay. I'm glad he still has it. Lets say I am cautiously optimistic. I'm still a bit more upset with the roar :p

Yes, the new roar is not Gojira worthy.

I am still hopeful for this film. But I just hate that detail, for I always loved seeing Gojira destroy cardboard miniature props with the atomic breath.

And with CG that destruction could really look off the chain.

I forget which Godzilla it is but one of the newer ones after Godzilla 2000. They used CG for his breath and a lot of it's power. He powered it up like a kame ha maha and the blast was epic.

I'm a fan of all the old Godzilla movies too but CG is right up there for his breath and his city destroying prowess. And this full CG Godzilla should be able to move better than the stiff suit guys. Arm movement for Godzilla was really bad at times =p

CG has been used for his breath all through the Millennium series.

I know. I just mean the way it powered up in this particular film really made it epic. I have all of them in the Millennium series. It's just been years since I've watched them. =p

I think I need to binge on all his movies again like Bea to prepare for this and so that I can discuss things better here. Except Godzilla's Revenge with the kid and Gabara ... nothing will make me watch that one again.

Okay so someone in the comments of that article Brock posted corrected what the author said about the "rare occurrence". It's referring to Godzilla himself.....not the atomic breath.

Quote
I'd also point out that there's nothing in there that says Godzilla and Muto are from the same time period, and that sentence that begins with "Rarely seen" is a separate thought from the line about his Atomic Ray. It's establishing context for the next sentence that refers to him as "Gojira". So we can't really assume anything about how often he uses his ray or what affect it has on him.

Everybody can hopefully stop worrying now.

My favorites were Godzilla vs Mecha Godzilla. The very 1st one. I loved how mg almost beat godzilla. That was a tough adversary in that one. Also Godzilla 1981 where they got Ray Bradbury back

1985 Raymond Burr Corrected as I've been rewatching them. My memory is soooooo bad.

Oh yeah destroroyah

Nuclear meltdown godzilla was intense. Final Wars' matrix story was just too crazy. For being the final godzilla it had way too little with starring godzilla. But it was still fun watching him go through almost every monster. Especially "zilla"

OH YES

I need to find ways to reduce my hype for this film so I don't go in with over expectations. Starting my Godzilla binge. Just finished watching Gojira the original version. Next up will be Raymond Burr's version (not Ray Bradbury like I had said earlier, darn horrible memory I have).

Between this and Winter Soldier I'm super pumped for the next 2 months to get here!

Im pretty sure that flying monster is Muto

it is, theirs even a Toy based on it coming out soon ...well based on the Flying Muto , kind of like how it has the spiked belly that Rodan has,,, thats one of the odes to Toho parts , but sadly theirs not going to be any Classic Toho chars in this movie , only simple nods to it ....now Sequel IDK ive only seen 1 Godzilla Movie in theaters & that was G2000  ...well ok i saw the "other american sorta lizard thing called zilla" also , but i digress

It's funny you say that because Godzilla actually had a Marvel comic series in the 70s where he crossed over with pretty much everyone. And it's still canon, even though Marvel can't directly reference Godzilla himself!
