I'm feeling very Sepp today. The last one is the most important.

Quote
You will do me the justice to remember that I have always supported the right of every man to his opinion, however different that opinion might be to mine. He who denies to another this right makes a slave of himself to present opinion because he precludes himself the right of changing it. The most formidable weapon against errors of every kind is reason. I have never used any other, and I trust I never shall.

Of all the systems of religion that ever were invented, there is no more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifiying to man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory to itself than this thing called Christianity.

I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my church.

-Thomas Paine (The Age of Reason)

Quote
I will not attack your doctrines nor your creeds if they accord liberty to me. If they hold thought to be dangerous - if they aver that doubt is a crime, then I attack them one and all, because they enslave the minds of men.

-Robert Ingersoll (The Ghosts)

Quote
The most heinous and the most cruel crimes of which history has record have been committed under the cover of religion or equally noble motives.

-Mohandas Gandhi (Young India, 1927)

Quote
I do not feel obliged to believe that same God who endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect had intended for us to forgo their use.

-Galileo Galilei (1564-1642)

Quote
I don't agree with those who think that the conflict is simply between two religions, namely Christianity and Islam... To me, the key conflict is between irrational blind faith and rational, logical minds.

-Taslima Nasrin (in an interview in Free Inquiry magazine, winter 1998/1999, Vol. 19 No. 1)

Quote
I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Sorry, but if an authority figure makes an off-color remark (whether they are serious or not), they generally are expected to apologize.

There's limits, you know.

In other words. Stop using religion to cover up your true motives. We all know what yours are. You would use anything. You insult religion more than I do when you do that.

  • does this look like the face of mercy?
Jnp stated it about accepting furries , ultra otakus and twilighters, that i shouldnt be so extremist on my tastes.  I answered in thread about it, I wont shove my tastes on anyone but i wont prevent myself from commenting as well, I never abused anyone over those tastes, or religion or whatever. Someone questioning their religion over a sarcastic remark i made, is not my concern and shall never be.Beliefs are meant to be questioned by the persons that have them, if they are happy with them and stop questioning them its not any outside force that will make them question them again, if you are questioning them over sarcastic remarks or humor, then you would be questioning them anyway without those.

You never apologized for wanting to BASH and INSULT IGNORANTS, you used threats of leaving if you werent given special privileges instead.  You never apologized for claiming moral superiority to all americans, (jz included) either. You did the exact same thing you are doing now when you went for titiln. You are using this as an excuse to get rid of people.

Wanna know something I never did? treat people as being worthless for what they are. You on the other hand claim that you are willing to tolerate homosexuals and that people shouldnt have to accept them, thats a truly sick thing to say.
-You have your choices on following your book of Gods, dont expect me of all people to keep others from arguing it against you.
-you totally ignore all the religious persons that post and tell you that they dont feel attacked in the slightest. ( which include orochi paladin, caddie and others)
-You treated shamrock like shit, while he never once attacked you, he just doesnt like the same god you do and is vocal about it when asked.
-Monday night war had all the reasons to say he felt "attacked" since I actually argued with him over the "god did it" thing, your first reaction is to ignore anything he said. You? You had a jokeish post of mine that i apologized to you back then for having derailed the thread, and that was it.

Go complain to titiln or val about being persecuted. Send Sepp a mail.
I already said everything i had to say on that thread about me being too harsh, and to follow your clues as you place them here would just be to pour gasoline on your flamebaits.
If you got further answered so far was because you know I respect you, but you will probably claim i feign that too, since I wont cut people words to keep them from speaking words that offend you  Its terrible when an ex-staff cant even approach others and talk to them peacefully without making the mockery you made out of this.

Iced and others do that, they don't say shit just because they feel like it!

Nobody should do that specifically. Your taste in characters should not reflect your character as a person, and you should not come under attack because of that. It is underhanded and in very poor tastes.

I'll defend that right as well, but I also expect all parties to be respectful and in good taste.

About the god = terrorist thing. I found it to more in poor taste than offensive. Don't get me wrong, I found it offensive and still do to some degree. That word is especially loaded, and you know that.

About the "holy" bible, even if you don't find it holy, you should respect that others do.
i think we should call it an "engine" so we don't look like total idiots because otherwise we'd be arguing about a "game" and that would be somehow "dumber" than arguing about an "engine" on the "internet" for countless hours

Yes and talking freely about any subject, with an honest opinion, a sense of humor, a real point of view, and a unique prospective are holy to me.

So you would have be throw out something I consider holy because your holy stuff is more holy than my stuff?

Stop throwing around holy. It is a word that has no substance. You can apply it to anything from rocks and trees to words written of paper, to rights, speech, even to the action of taking a shit. Which is why they have the term, Holy Shit!  ;D

okay now you're just being a dork. the word holy has as much substance as the word love. probably even deeper for the people using it.

this is particularly ignorant, you know why people take religion seriously, you should understand how people feel about it yo. it's more than rocks and MAGIC UP IN THIS---and all kinds of supernatural stuff, the belief is deep and a part of that person's spirit. that's why your opinion is so insulting

unless that was a joke than my bad :-X

i support your right to your opinion shamrock but the more you express it the more it makes me want to switch sides :sadgoi:

No I wasn't joking. Although I did make a joke in there, but my point was missed. What is holy to one person can totally oppose what is holy to another.

And no I think it has no substance. If it did then we wouldn't strip mine mountains. Send smog into the sky. Eat cows or whatever.

Because these things are holy to others. Why would making a joke about a book be a bigger deal than shitting on land, killing a plant or animal or so on.

Can we not talk about food on this forum because it might piss off what a PETA member finds holy?

So in conclusion to use the word holy, actually has no meaning. It is like love you are right. You can say you love this and that, but that doesn't mean another person won't sleep with your girlfriend and not love her at all. Would you get mad because he didn't love what you loved or because he fucked your girlfriend. I think the latter.

Art would be another example. What is a masterpiece to one could be talked about as a hotel painting by another.

As it should be to everyone.

No, but the framing of the message is the issue in this case. Is calling God a terrorist necessary to the argument that many individuals follow religion because they fear God's wrath? In this case I'm sure it hinders your argument with other associations. I wouldn't recommend or try to censoring you but I think you could exercise your speech in better taste. I don't see the parallels between speaking in good taste as a method of censorship in this case and speaking freely in less than good taste. Whether there is a difference is one of the themes of this thread.

Any value it has would be conceptual and abstract.
I could argue that you just gave it substance with your examples.
This discussion of 'holy' is kinda getting off on a tangent again.

tl;dr version: there is a major issue between: Censorship to be in good taste (which may have a chilling effect) and the freedom to speak (and use MFG as a platform for) open free speech when it may offend others. Governments deal with the same issue on a much larger scale with varying success.

I don't understand these delusions of you Iced. I've never been sent to a concentration camp :O I have however, been attacked for simply having beliefs in a higher being, and mocked by insensitive disrespectful people, and they never even bothered to apologize :sadgoi:

Also, why would I want a cross tattooed on my forhead? I would be discriminated by society. I'll tattoo it on my chest, where my heart is :pleased:

Ok my terrorist quote is in a topic asking for opinions about religions. Well there ya go. It is a common one actually. here. From a book I consider holy.

Quote
Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and tortuous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we call it the word of a demon than the word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize humankind; and, for my part, I sincerely detest it, as I detest everything that is cruel.

-Thomas Paine (The Age of Reason)

Also don't eat toast because it is holy.
