Here is a quick glimpse at my new WIP, Kane Kelly for SHADEs of Manhattan 2: Electric Boogaloo (Working Title).

Kane is of course the briefly explored character in the intro to SHADEs of Manhattan, the one responsible for the escape of all of the SHADEs subjects. Kane is a being of pure malice, whose attitude, demeanor, and methods make him the arch-nemesis of Snow. Basically Kane is Snow's Moses Maddigan. Rivals will be a recurring theme of sorts for the sequel, with Sabotage and Moses continuing there feud, along with the arrival of Kane to serve as Snow's rival, as well as brand new character Ruckus being the polar opposite of Fray (who in the story of SHADEs 2 has assumed a role within Maddicorp as Moses' right hand-woman, as seen in her ending, but also as his lover, something not seen in her ending).

Anyway, there will be more information on SHADEs 2 in the SHADEs section of this very site.

As you may have gathered from the gifs, he will have several sources for animations. I am trying to use many different sources so he doesn't feel like he's just a slightly different version of an already existing character He will use a bit of Iori, Rock and Keith Wayne for animation references. The decision to use Rock came about when my friend pointed out their similar attires, which is coincidental. I would change his outfit but I am too attached to it now  :) .

He will play like the other SHADEs characters. That is, with the following features:

-6 Button Layout
-Forward and Backward Hops
-Chain Combos
-Launcher and Air Combos
-Level Specific Supers
-Desperation Move available for one use only when health is at 250 or lower

His abilities are a bit sketchy right now, with the main one being his ability to manifest a nigh-invulnerable, super-strong being (unnamed right now) that can attack his opponent. Think something similar to Chad In Black's ghosts, or more accurately, the Stands from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. This ability for Kane stems from his childhood as a scrawny and often abused weakling who never had a friend or father figure to defend him from said abuse. During incubation in the SHADEs project, he also developed a toned and athletic body, along with enhanced strength and reflexes. He is designed to be a top-tier villian, so expect some strong offense from him.

Watchmen was awesome by the way. Caught the midnight showing here in Burlington last night and it basically blew my mind. Go see it.

Anyway, Kane has come a long way since I first posted this. He is now 85% complete. His other power, besides having a sentient, ethereal being bound to him in a symbiotic existence, is that he can convert Negative Energy (an invisible aura emitted by acts of negativity, such as violence, abuse, crime, hate, fear, etc.) into power for himself, which he can use in various ways, such as making him faster and stronger. Here's a screen of his win pose showing him surrounded by NE and what he looks like when he uses it:



He has all of his standard attacks, 3 specials (he will have more), 3 Supers and a Desperation Move. His standard 2 win poses are done (in SHADEs, each character had a win pose for winning a round, then one for the match), 1 intro, 1 taunt, pretty much everything is done. He still needs coding tweaks, such as adding in more combos and doing some adjustment to damage and juggle values, but all that's stuff I can do in one sitting.


Standing attacks


Crouching attacks

Special Descriptions (none of them have official names yet, so they are generic names for now):

Dashing Attack - D,DF,F,P
-He leans in low to the ground and dashes forward, "slicing" through his opponent.



Retreat - D,DB,B,P after Dashing Attack connects
-He dashes back quickly to create distance after hitting with the previous move.

Uppercut - D,DF,F,P during Dashing Attack or after Dashing Attack connects
-He delivers a stiff uppercut. Can be done before or after the Dash connects.

Flying Spin Kick - D,DF,F,K during Dashing Attack or after Dashing Attack connects
-He does a flying spin kick obviously. Same functionality as Uppercut.

Anti-Air Elbow - F,D,DF,P
-He does the classic anti-air upper, only he uses his shoulder and elbow to strike, rather than his fist.

Beast Within - D,DB,B,K
-He calls out the sentient being living within him, a hulking, intangible beast, who then delivers a powerful strike. Since the beast is bound to him, these moves have low range, but high power and priority.

Supers:

Level 1 - Multiple Anti-Air Elbow - D,DF,F,D,DF,F,K
-Basically a Shoryu-Reppa.

Level 2 - Super Dashing Attack COmbo - D,DB,B,D,DB,B,P
-Dashes forward, and upon connecting with the dash, delivers a flurry of powerful attacks.

Level 3 - Multiple Slicing Dashing Attack - D,DF,F,D,DF,F,P
-Dashes forward, slicing through his opponent, then turns around and does it again, about 6 times.



DM - Beast Life Force Drain - D,DF,F,DF,D,DB,B,P
-The beast emerges and grabs the opponent, lifts them in the air by their throat and proceeds to repeatedly charge them with dark energy, draining their life bar. When he's done, he throws them against the wall.

Anyway, I will release a public version in case anyone is wondering why this is in the general projects section and not the SHADEs section. Also, I will be getting Zeckle/Laxxe23 to do a video soon if he's willing.

i like the design looks great... although he doesnt look like a villan  :-X but i guess looks can be decieving huh.

Well, even though there is little interest in this topic about him, I thought I'd update and let everyone know that he now has all of his basic anims (stance, walk, crouch, jump, turn, etc.), his guard anims, and all of his required sprites done. I can now move onto attacks, which are more fun.

I like the look of the stance and how it rotates... not too sure about the whole 'stand' idea, but Chad worked, So I look forward to Kane too. :)

I have to agree with BC as well he doesnt really look like a bad guy or pure malice more like the rival of the main character, which I guess he is, but he still doesn't look too evil more like he has his own motives for doing what he is doing.

quick question tho what type of powers is kane gonnna have

I'm seeing a lot of Rock/Ash Crimson in the anims you've shown so far. I'm excited, I thought the absence of Kane from SHADE's one was rather odd, so it's good to finally see the face behind the escape.

Based on his description, it doesn't seem like a move like that would fit very well with the character or his powers.

This is looking pretty good so far, SeanAltly.  The only thing I can think of to say right now is that he doesn't really look like like a "top-tier villain".  He's doesn't seem evil so much as untrustworthy, or mysterious.

Good point.  Besides, I've always found that the best villains are always the ones that don't try to overwhelm you with evil.

Nice. :)

Also, concerning FX material (even though I know it's barely one of your focuses :P) : during all his dash attacks where he's in black (surrounded by NE I presume), it could be nice to see a trail of semi-transparent FX behind him, showing his speed.

There are, in the screens I was using the sub, but it looked cool on the stage0 (the default stage for testing in my FF), but weird in real stages, so I've since changes it. You'll see it in the vid when I get Laxxe23 to make it.
