i really want to contribute with the select ports but i don't have photoshop.... is there anyway to reproduce the fonts with gimp?
Hmmm... I don't think so. But I believe that NoZ did mention what the font is called, so you could possibly reproduce it that way. Otherwise, I'm shooting off blind answers here.

No, recreating this in gimp is almost impossible because of the layer style(The glow around the character and names) you have to copy, which is only available in photoshop.

Since you're using 1.1, have you considered editing the portraits? For example, you could turn down the bightness and raise a contrast a bit to make it seem more evil-ish...Like what MarkPachi did in his Win Port pack waaaaay back around the first pages of this thread
