I can't seem to work my way around this, but I have an external usb HDD.Whenever I try plugging ANYTHING else in (usb ports), the HDD stops getting read.Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

Looks like a random problem then, I can't blame lack of power for it which is the most common cause of why usb peripherals stop working when you plung a new one.

Every USB device connected to a computer is draining power from the PSU. If the PSU is not powerful enough then your USB devices won't get enough juice to work, requiring an additional power supply
If the connected it to the same psu we can't blame it to a lack of power, otherwise the power would lack regardless of the arrangement, because they would be connected to the same power suply, it does not help that it has external power.
