Hello, my name is Jack. This is my first post here but my intent isn't to spam, only to find an early-adopting fan base for our upcoming 2D fighter titled 'Project Royale X' with gameplay inspired by SG, BB, and GG and concept art inspired by KoF.

Project Royale X is a new 2D fighting game that puts players in control of fighters as they fight to save the world.. or destroy it.

The story takes place in the year 2020 and picks up just before Adam is released from prison. After Daemon’s escape, the Zero Tech corporation began a fighting tournament in order to draw out more powerful combatants on earth to complete their Project X: Lucretia. Each fighter has their own reason for entering this tournament, but Zero Tech's true desire is to lure Adam's younger sister, Erin (the main protagonist), to them in order to feed her to Lucretia and take over the world with their own private militia.

Loving the artwork and the music so far. And the whole project looks interesting.

However, I reserve judgement until I see some sprites, since they are the backbone of any fighting game.

Regardless, keep up the good work and good luck on your project!

Wow, thanks for all of the positive reviews! We are hiring a sprite artist that can produce KoF XIII style and resolution, or as close to it as possible. We are aware that this is a huge work load for one or even 3 people but if you have the skill then we ask that you trust us an apply because we have plans on how to do it. We are launching a Kickstarter campaign and with that funding we will hire a full team of sprite artists to balance the work load.

We believe that with the KoF XIII sprite style, this game can be one of the greatest fighters.

EDIT: Quick side-note, if anyone here knows how to get in touch with eFeX or KO-KI, please let them know that of hundreds of sprite artists and applications (literally) they're the two we want want for this project. If you guys are watching, get in touch with us. We have no doubt that with your help this project will be all that we and our fans want it to be.

That's quite a load you guys out on yourselves, would suck if you guys got burned while doing this. Maybe you should starting small and simple and working your way up.

That said, i can't get excited for this just yet without any gameplay shown and it doesn't help that the gameplay planned isn't clear(Skullgirl's "balanced Marvel" style with SF4 elements? Honestly, I don't think even they achieved that.). Character designs and art look promising(J-pop artist that is secretly an assassin? Instant Main.)

Send me a PM if you decide to add me on PSN, so I don't mistake you for a random Friend whore.

Thanks for your feedback, and that's exactly what we are doing. Though, in that same aspect, we are not going to dream small. What you are seeing is our overall idea but our starting point will depend on the funding and support we receive through our crowd-funding ventures.

I have KO-KI's Pixiv account on my fav-list. Mind if I link that to you?

Also, quick question: Is the music going to be a standard bgm music (Like SG, Soul Calibur, SF Alpha series, etc.), or is it gonna be dynamic? (Danger Music, music for each round, music for when you either stay idle/move around, etc.)

While eFeX comes here every once in a while, there's another forum that he posted on a lot a while ago.  I'll see if I can message you the link to it.

EDIT: After going back to the forum I mentioned, it looks pretty dead now.  But I know eFeX has an account here, so just try messaging him.

i like the character designs a lot, but some of them have details that either won't translate very well into sprites, or that will look good in the sprites but will take a considerable amount of time from the spriters. the arm tattoos on giselle and mariya, for example. they look cool in the artwork, but they'll either look messy on the sprites or take a huge amount of time to do right in one sprite, let alone consistently through several animations. giselle's leg fishnet and mariya's camo pants might also be inconvenient for spriters. i think the character designs are good enough that they'd still look cool without the tattoos (or simpler tattoos) and without the fishnet or camo pattern. those kind of things are easier to do in a 3d fighting game, but this is a hand drawn thing.

on the other hand adam and lucretia look cool and like they'd be easy to sprite without any design changes.

Ko-Ki is most likely off limits due to him being the main spriter for Cryamore (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/robaato/cryamore-a-true-first-class-take-on-the-action-rpg)

I'm sure you're already aware of the SNK's Dot creation method - (Link added anyway)
http://kofaniv.snkplaymore.co.jp/english/info/15th_anniv/2d_dot/creation/index.php

Please note how many years each character took for these professionals to complete; your project appears over ambitious with the amount of characters and sprite style ... Also, maybe this article will interest you;

http://kotaku.com/5986592/it-will-blow-your-mind-to-see-how-much-it-costs-to-add-one-new-character-to-a-fighting-game

Quite a good read with things like having to create double the amount of sprites you ask for etc

May have to edit this post when I get home, phones acting up...

@Zemilia - In regards to contacting KO-KI, that wont be necessary but thank you. As for music, it will be a mixture of both. There will be standard BMG as well as dynamic music for certain game modes.

@Hoshi - We have already attempted to contact eFeX but to no avail, however we will keep trying. Thanks!

@Tiltin - Interesting that you point that out and those details may cause complications depending on the sprite style we do end up going with in the and and their resolution. We will certainly remove the tattoo if it does indeed look crappy in game.

@JnXC - Hey thanks for that info on KO-KI, we found out shortly before you responded. Don't label our project as overambitious based on the small amount of information that you've seen so far. For example, it isn't posted here, but we don't intend to launch with 22+ playable characters. We're turning to Kickstarter/IndieGoGo for funding and our starting point really depends on how much funding we earn. It may take 1 or several campaigns to reach our final product but in the end there will be 22+ characters.

We were made aware of the pipeline for KoF sprites shortly after making the decision to go with that art style but we're not ready to back down just yet. Though, I'll assure you that we haven't ruled out our less favorite art styles like Persona 4 or GGXX.

The title of that article about the cost of adding one new character to a fighting game is misleading. What it should say is "it will blow your mind to see how much it costs to add one new character to Skull Girls" because that's what they're talking about there. I get your point, but that's a bit extreme. It will not cost us that much to add another fighter to our game.

We appreciate all of the feedback guys, so much that we want to invite you all join our community before it officially launches in a few days. We weren't sharing the link yet for obvious reasons but here it is. Register and post if you have any questions or would just like to know more about the game. http://prx.freeforums.net

One word of advice when developing anything, including video games:

Always assume it takes more to develop anything than you first estimate. It would be a miracle that you would be under budget.

I'm just saying this because I have heard rumors that the Skullgirls team might be disbanding soon after fulfilling all of the 5 DLC characters, if not sooner, due to budget constraints.

Make sure you aim lower when setting goals for yourself.
