PS3 Sound Problem

I'll cut to the chase. I was updating my Armored Core For Answer game, then went out to get a glass of Iced tea. When I returned, there wasn't any sound coming from the PS3. I tried switching HDMI cables, nothing. I turned it on and off again, nothing. I restored the PS3 to its original setting (Take note, restore, not format!). Then, I connected the Red-White-Yellow cable, the one usually seen on a PS2, and hooked it on my surround sound, it worked. What's going on? What happened? What should I do? And no, I haven't tested it yet on another TV.

Audio is currently set to Audio Multi-output.

it can possibly be an issue with the HDMI Port on the TV itself i think. How old is your TV?
