Consequences of meltdown: this graphic shows how a full-scale meltdown could affect the World.Dear God, please don't troll the humans with a Nuclear Meltdown.

Source? I'll try to introduce some files in a program for seeing how could go alongside Polar, Hadley and Ferrell cells :/
Something I read on twitter:QuoteIf this Earthquake is Japan's Karmatic punishment for Pearl Harbor, I dread to see what ours will be for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. So true.

Iodine tablets are already sold out here. I wonder if the fallout would even reach here, but best be sure?
They needa give Japan a break, didn't they ALREADY have earthquake problems before this one happened?

usetheforcehan said, March 14, 2011, 08:30:18 pmConsequences of meltdown: this graphic shows how a full-scale meltdown could affect the World.Dear God, please don't troll the humans with a Nuclear Meltdown. this image is fear mongering to the worst degree. reactors #1 and #3 are considered stable. reactor #2 experience some problem, but the containment area is still fine. reactor #4 had a fire that was caused by the explosion at reactor #3 earlier, but it's been put out. there is not going to be a massive, world-affecting melt-down that will mutate all our grains and light the skies on fire. every western news organization has been sensationalizing this whole event, without even attempting to back it up with facts. even with the worst case scenario in that image, the amount of radiation that would actually reach the US west coast would be about the amount you'd get from an x-ray, if not less.
like everything else going on, they're doing that as a warning/precaution. probably the biggest threat to the plant right now is the chance of a very strong aftershock causing even further damage to the facilities. regardless, there are many failsafes in place to prevent anything like chernobyl. this is probably slightly worse than three mile island, but nobody is going to know the kind of damage done until at least next week. if the seawater option works out, which it is so far, they can restore power to the regular coolings systems and begin the long, expensive process of removing the cores. the chances of it actually affecting the entire planet are blown entirely out of proportion though.i'm not saying "don't panic", but it's not completely out of control. they're doing everything they can to keep this from getting completely out of hand.
the impact is really not overblown...when japan is totally fucked to the ground, some of us here would take their own lives because of that.think about jmorphman without his gundamsIced said, March 15, 2011, 05:59:34 amwell its not like panicking will help any either.hey, that sounds very christian
Today one of our Air craft carriers moved because of the levels of radiation but you don't see a problem. 5 mile had hardly any radiation. They have issued out iodine pills. You only do that when there is a problem.
or as a preventative measure. but let's keep grasping straws here cause it's easier to sustain a kneejerk reaction than it is to look up, or even read, official sources and what they have to say about the problem. the navy moved the carrier also as a preventative measure. Quote"These measures are strictly precautionary in nature. We do not expect that any United States federal radiation exposure limits will be exceeded even if no precautionary measures are taken," the Navy said.QuoteThe Navy's Monday statement, however, provided some perspective, noting that the maximum potential radiation dose received by ship personnel when it passed through the area was "less than the radiation exposure received from about one month of exposure to natural background radiation from sources such as rocks, soil, and the sun."all these things are being done because it's probably a better idea to keep people who are not directly working to fix the problems away than it is to potentially expose them.
