It being attributed to gay people ( has been done sometimes) is kinda weird for me.feels like singling them out . =|
It's just a fun star. You're reading too much into it. Anyway, message sent so you'll have to put up with it till Val gets back online and see the message.

maybe its not for some, but I know that jmorphman for instance wouldnt want it.I guess i dont mind it being given to who wants it.
Yeah, I'll just give it to anyone that asks. I just thought it was fun to pass around in the random topic. The script is set to change the star every 20 hours to the last person that posted in the Random Thread.

I agree. I don't know but for me it's kind of irritating because some people feel so proud of it and then start saying stupid shit over it. And yeah I can see why Iced says it can be insulting, like really. If it was a joke star and then it died it really has no reason to be brought back again.
Get rid of it altogether. Do not give it to people who ask for it. It is pointless and dumb and confusing. And this whole thing about using it to show off gay pride is absolutely ridiculous. I think gay pride is a great thing (spoiler: I'm gay) but that star is not the way to go about showing it. Put a pride flag in your sig or something. The star is dumb and we don't need a special gays only star.
Jmorphman said, February 01, 2014, 12:21:17 amThe star is dumb and we don't need a special gays only star.Well, we can have a gay only star and a normal only star to cover both posibilities
Completely unrelated, but:I think it's dumb that only staff members, the people that won Vans's contest years ago and some completely random guys have acces to custom titles.

Yase custom titles are stupid. i thought they were completely gone by now. as a user you can freely change:- your username- your avatar- the text under your avatar- your signaturehaving additional text under your username is excessive. nobody should have custom titlesalso jesus fucking christ koldskool's name is unreadable with that color
Yeah... a reason to not to become a donator lolHey! I worked really hard (barely) to get my totally irrelevant custom title! Don't you dare to touch it!
And here I thought you had to fulfill some ridiculous requirement to get a title. No master.def for me.
oh wait the custom title goes between the stars and the text under the avatar? that makes it even more pointless
the worst part about the super star are the people that obsess (or more accurately, have nothing else better to do than to bring it up) over it so if removing it makes that go away (it wont) im for ita purple star is more than enough for yall anywayno real opinion on the titles other than its faster than reviewing the membergroup post?

Pigeot said, February 01, 2014, 03:08:20 amWhy do people call the star confusing? It's a random star. Enlighten me.You just answered your question.
What I'm saying is that a random star that is simply there for the purpose of being random is not confusing. It is just random. And calling it confusing--suggesting that it is desturctive-- as a justification for its removal seems histrionic to me. Drama-cannon.
How do you say that?? Something that appears completely randomly while posting IS confusing. I´m not getting your point, you´re just contradicting yourself in there. It makes questions like "what is this?" appear. I find that star unnecessary too.
Contradicting myself? Okay Sherlock.Anyway, the worst that can happen, which would seem to have happened relatively rarely afaik, is that the user that has it asks why he has it; someone will tell him its random; then the world will keep turning like nothing happened.Oh yeah. Go reality.
All petty discussions aside, what really matters is if the star is necessary right? Why not just get rid of it if there is no significant reason for keeping it.Problem solved. It doesn't take a big discussion about a bunch of irrelevant crap to figure this out.
Just reminding that it is going away. I just can't do it. Valodim has to see my message. He has to remove it.

Of course I did JM, as Drex said (the reason why I quoted him), I always thought that star was an innocent joke just for fun too until I read this thread
Except no one said this star was supposed to be a gay star to mock users. Only that specific users were assimilating it to a gay pride, and then others non-gay people began assimilating it with that too. Just because some people have joked about that, it doesn't mean that's what it's supposed to be.
you can blame bia for that, it was only a random start atributed to a random user as a simple joke; it landed on bia once and bia liked it enought to ask for it; nobod saw any harm on that, foolish they were as it created the biggest flamewar in mugen since mc2 asked for personman to be demoded.
Still no sign of Val yet. He tends to come online once a week. Speaking of the special member status, what ever happened to what that status used to be? Long ago the special member was someone that used to be on the moderator's staff. They still had access to the staff boards but not the moderation tools of a moderator. It's pretty silly to think about now. So it's obvious why it was removed. Probably removed when Guild wiped the forums and changed policies in 2006.

Jmorphman said, February 05, 2014, 03:57:46 pmI think the star would eventually start to lose meaning if we did that.No more so than the Contributor star IMO, and the CotM is more important because it's something that was actually voted as the best of that month. And it's only 12 guys a month at best (less if it's the same guy several times), plus one per year. Sure there would be something like 60 guys with it after 5 years, but it's not different from the Contributor star IMO.At the most, the monthly star can be removed after a year, and the yearly star, never, but removing the monthly star at the end of the month makes it completely unnoticeable IMO, which just makes it useless. People don't check people's stars that often, no one would ever realize that someone won it for a month.
i agree with the above. the current way COTM stars are is kind of pointless. worst case scenario 60 people will have it in 5 years. alternatively just don't use them at all
I wanted the stars to be forever initially, but everyone said no. Once again proving that I'm the most insightful person on the staff. Promote me to super admin please.
I guess a month is maybe too short, but I still don't think they should last forever; IIRC the reasoning behind making them temporary was that we wanted to keep people motivated to still keep reaching for the star (it's a dumb tiny star yeah and not that important, but I dunno I want it back).A year is probably fair, I guess?

Jmorphman said, February 05, 2014, 05:25:16 pmIIRC the reasoning behind making them temporary was that we wanted to keep people motivated to still keep reaching for the starEven though that makes a lot of sense, I'll still go back to comparing it to the Contributor star. I haven't actually released anything in half a decade and I still have mine ! Where's my incentive. I think keeping it is worth it because it seems like a pretty good achievement to have some pride for. Removing it makes you feel forgotten. ... I'd guess.
Your incentive is to get off your butt and make a character that's good enough to win CotM! That Jin topic has been open for a while, you must not be serious about wanting the star!!!
You busted me, I've been holding out in hope the star becomes permanent before releasing it ! So do it or you're never getting the finished release

I've got no stance on it besides the fact he does it nearly all the time, but a) I don't think this is the proper thread to start this discussion b) you gotta just let people do them sometimes. For example that Doraemon guy's very posts are the epitome of annoying but I can't really do anything about him posting just cause I find him annoying...
Well the point is finding shit annoying is something you just gotta deal with sometimes (or just ignore) There is plenty of annoying stuff in this world and if we spent everytime trying to start a dialogue on shit we find annoying this world would be unproductive as fuckIn fact I should be writing my essay right now, owned
All I'm saying it has become too notoriousAlso, for someone who rose to MFG stardom by laying the truth smackdown, you're sure as hell behaving weird when someone does it I'm not trying to steal your spotlight here, it's consistent to my MFG storyline through the years.
I didn't want to rise to mfg stardom, it was never my intention to be known for that and I have no desire to be known as the guy who lays truth smackdowns. I will call things as I see it, will moderate based on good judgement, and do what I think to be right. My job here is to help out the community, not be the guy who facilitates the truth smackdown era of guild. Those truth smackdowns were the result of me being fed up with the bullshit many members pulled. On the other hand, all you're doing is griping about a post gimmick. It's not really the same case. Despite all that, I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Just because I posted a couple rants doesn't mean I can't find what you're doing kinda pointless. Posted: February 12, 2014, 08:01:36 pmbefore this escalates tho, i am not trying to start shit between us. you and titiln are certainly entitled to your opinions on lame posting gimmicks. however even if i weren't gmod i'd still be saying exactly what i said now. i don't believe its pressing enough to warrant a real discussion over. in fact i feel very foolish for drawing this out myself. so you all have my apologies for that lol.

I'd definitely argue that MDI and a bunch of veterans trashing newbies over the content they bring to the table is awful and way more detrimental than strike through posts. I wasn't ranting over a gimmick. I was ranting over a real issue. But if you see it that way, I respect that. I will leave you alone on this one.
