I was wondering what is the best settings for the .snd file...take a look at what i'm talking about:The circled area is what i want to edit and thats the default settings, i don't want too do it myself because the last time my sounds didn't work at all. ???
only thoughts I have on this is that you want to strike a balance between size and quality/clarity.sound files have to be in .wav format as well.
I know all the basics about the snd file, i already ripped all my sounds and converted them into wav, its just getting the perfect sample rates.
Well i've got a pretty crappy sound card but, there's very little difference between 44000mhz and 22000mhz on the stereo setting but it cuts your sound file size in half. Increases and decreases in volume seem to do nothing to the size.If you use fighter factory's function it'll resample all your sounds. Not just 1.
You don't need more than 22050Hz, 16bit Mono. And assuming your sounds came from the arcade versions of XvSF or MvSF, that's what you should use (or maybe even 8bit, dunno).
Finally, I get to ramble about something I REALLLLLY know about - SOUND DESIGN! .44100Hz, 16bit is the gold standard. Yeah, there are sound cards that go to 96000, 32bit nowadays (like my old laptop that I miss dearly ), but the most recognizable for any computer to sustain within the last 10 years (I should know - mine is that old ) is 44100Hz, 16-bit, and in terms of sound quality its the best to set it for without having your .snd file size be hugh. 112050 or 22050Hz, 16bit Mono should be used if you want to get that classic feel of the old school comprimised sounds. Before you even set all that up though, to get the best out of your sfx try exporting them as .wavs and load them up in Adobe Audition or Sound Forge (my personal recommendations). Check to see if the DC Offset is correct (centering the sound wave), edit any audio clipping, and normalize your final result.
