I've recently learned how to make stages, which is new and exciting territory for me. So here are my first stages, a rooftop I pieced together myself that I'm kind of proud of, with three different background variations. I won't say "They're my first, go easy on me," because I'm a grown up.  :P

The first is basically a stage version of the character select screen background for the upcoming S.H.A.D.E.s game. The clouds are scrolling, parallax clouds.

The second has a different skyline that is farther away, giving the impression the building is isolated:

The third has a more colorful city closer to the characters, giving the impression that the building is surrounded by other buildings:

They are low-res (sorry hi-res guys), and don't support super jump. I will ask that you please forgive me for that. :)

Let me know what you guys think!

*edit* feedback

1.rooftop - there are some loose black pixels dangling in the sky, is that the former world trade on the left?
                (I'm originally from across the river near the path grove st. station) btw parallax is awesome!
2.rooftop2 - empire state and twinkle stars? i love it!
3.rooftop3 - I don't recognize the round building or area that represents but it is very clean.

Overall 5/5 stars from me! that wins you 2 Sabret Hot Dogs, 1 Souvlaki, and an Italian Ice of your choice!

The only thing I might change would be the shadows. Try:

[Shadow]
intensity = 40
color = 15,15,15
yscale = .3

for a smoother cleaner effect, but if you're going for the pixelated effect then keep the ones you have now.

Totally awesome man! Those stages really take me back home!

Really good work, I like them very much. Only flaws I was able to discover (black pixels) were already mentioned by MOTVNoswc.
Now, if these only were with superjump...  :'(

The reason the shadows look the way they do is to match the shadows created by the railing. I wanted it to mesh.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hey dude whats up. I am no big stage critic as I haven't gotten into it yet but let me just say that I am enjoying all 3 of your stages. All stages have that dark city feel and it reminds me that I am in Streets of Rage 1. Now we all know you can't go wrong with Streets of Rage, thus you can't really go wrong with these 3 stages.

Loving the buildinds, loving the urban feel and especialy the dark setting that I enjoy the most. Very good job and thank you for sharing bro.

Dude, these stages are epic. Are you sure these are your fist stages? ;)
With the right music they can achieve a level above epic.
Can't really find anything wrong with your stages.

Very nice stages, especially since they are your first ones. :)

Apart from what MOTVN said, the stages looks strange with characters which can jump very high.
I'd adjust the verticalfollow to 0.4 or 0.5, because the camera is really very slow to follow.
By doing this, you have to add a little more floortension.

Also on rooftop 1 & 2, when jumping very high, we can see a black hole between the floor/bridge and the buildings. In rooftop1, we can even see a black hole between the buildings and the parallax sky. You need to fix the Y deltas.

The blackness between the sky and the building is supposed to be there. I like the seperation, it makes it look eerie. You can barely see it anyway. Remember, the first stage is supposed to be a stage version of our SHADEs select screen, which you can see some shots of here: http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=82707.0

Since all these problems you have seem to be caused by chars who jump very high, when I stated earlier the stages weren't meant for super jump characters, I'm not sure what to say. I'll look into them, but like I said, these weren't meant for them.

EDIT: Upon further inspection, involving playing my stages with characters who have super jumps, I can't find most of the problems you've stated. Did you adjust values yourself to accommodate your characters? Because besides the blackness between the city and the sky, I don't see them (and the little pixels too, I missed them because my lifebars cover them up, lol).

You know for your first shot you did extraoridnarily well, apart from the small black pixels in Rooftop 1's sky.

I'm really happy with what you've done here Sean, but is it me or does that one building where you fight in has "Jumping" abilities. ;P

Very nice stages for your first try. Keep up the awesome work.
