We all know that Intellectual Property like bad songs and old games that you can't buy anymore are more important than human lives. Why do they have to spell it out for us?

Just because you get too harsh a sentence for it (or actually for the other crimes you don't get harsh enough) doesn't make it right.

Who said it was right ?
The sentence, supposedly, should be proportionate to the gravity of the crime, should it not ? Basically making this sentence harsher than the others is the same as saying it's worse. Stealing a song file is worse than killing a person.

On the serious side, how does one get caught? This is quite worrying as I have a few relatives who are near 15-16 and they use Limewire and such, I do somewhat fear for them in the event they get slapped with a fine or equivalent.

But yet so many people do it, I'm actually slightly confused as to how this works now ...

AFAIK they only tend to go for the guys who upload the stuff.

actually they sometimes send intimations ordering the persons to admit to their guilt and pay a huge fine.

Most of the times they do it randomly tho!In hopes of catching people that actually downloaded stuff, other times they will like, be able to detect that they downloaded one specific album and then send the intimation claiming they will sue for millions in order to get the persons to admit their guilt and pay a smaller fine.
