Ok... Welcome, I've been learning to work with mugen for about 6 months now, and after starting this character about 3 months ago, I think it's time to let someone know about my uninpired little bundle of project. This is going to be yet another Gouki/Akuma, but this one is going to be based solely on SF4. Let's list some of his features that I can think of at the moment.

Sorry, no video this time, the fact is I've finished coding Shun Goku Satsu, added a few more hitsparks and fx, and finished asura warp, but here's where things went wrong. I started working this character several months ago, back then I didn't really know what I was doing so many simple tasks ended being me just screwing around with everything until it worked, that's how I got my pallete to work as well, I was basically messing with the pallete in ways I can't recall and stuck it into Mugen, it worked out fine, so I recorded a script on Photoshop to process sprites as I work on. A week ago my computer screwed up and I had to reinstall Photoshop, the script is gone, and I still have a crap load of sprites to process, but here's the problem. No matter how I manipulate the pallete I can't duplicate what I did 6 months ago, thus the result is that all the newly processed sprites don't work with the palletes my Gouki is currently using. This may sound a little ambiguous so I'll use the sprites to explain.

I've tried everything, and I'm completely stuck, so right now I'm asking for help, I'll send a copy of the pallete, PCX sprite, PNG sprite, and sff file if anyone offers to help, and if no one can solve this problem, I may have to redo the entire sff...Anyways, thank you for your time, and thanks in advance.

This is my first video, it basically showcases my progress with the character. The character is far from finished and lots of stuffs still need tuning, so if anyone has played SF4 please leave feedback to help me. Plenty of things still left to do, the character has no sound at the moment....and some hitsparks are missing as you can tell from the video. I'll get onto that when I have time. Gouki still needs a super and his SF4 gauge (bummer...)
And I'm also in dire need of a spriter, the focus attack animation needs more frame and I have no idea how to make it look better. So if anyone can help, please PM me or whatever, thank you!

10/16 Tiny unimportant update
changed a few lines in the features below. And I'm just gonna throw this little edit out here, appreciate feedbacks as always. Got 5 palletes done, I actually finished 8 but photoshop decided to be a gigantic asshole and other 3 for no apparent reason....


-All the usual punch kick stuff, I found this frame chart from Eventhub that is going to be useful when I code my attacks, when it's done, this character should be able to do link combos like in the original sf4.
-Sf3 sprite, but his attack animations will be edited to match his sf4 style
-Focus attack system will be fully implemented. More SF4 style characters are gradually turning up now, I do plan to borrow blood_riot's power gauge sprite if he agrees, otherwise I'll just have to make do with a sf3 one. Gouki's focus attack animation will most likely be a clusterf*ck of poor frankenspriting and choppy animation (but considering most of the focus attack animations of current sf4 style characters have no more than 2 frames, I feel content)
-sf4 japanese voice (thanks to chosis for the rip)
-Most of the effects will be from sf3, but if it's necessary, I may found some snk effects that fits the style, since I'm going for plain and simple special effects, there won't be collossal cvs hitsparks or dust.
-Due to the generosity of fAyt and Alchemist, I should be able to get my hands on sf4 fx, which is going to be great stuff.
-The 2 throw animations are just too difficult to frankensprite, I'm currently looking for someone to help me sprite those animations, if anyone wants to know more, pm me. If no one offers to help than he'll just have his two throw attacks from sf3.I just got this crazy idea to frankensprite cvs sprite with sf3 sprite, I fiddled around with it for a few minutes and got a rough picture of how it's gonna turn out, so he's probably going to get his downward smack attack for one of his throws.
-I will try my very best to make this character accurate to its original source, but since I only played the actual sf4 for no more than 5 hours, I expect a very hard time tuning the character.
-a remix mode that will include all of his super arts from sf3, I've always wanted to know what kind of damage akuma can cause if focus cancel is combined with super art, and this is where my vision will be realized. It's going to be an alternate pallete, akuma's ex special moves will be replaced by his sf3 super art, he can still do focus attack and ex cancel and the ground pounding special will be added as an additional ultra. And no, he will not be throwing 2 air hadoukens and have ridiculous damage, this is not shin mode...

Progress:

Sprite-90% All the animations are done except for effects and hitsparks
Code-75% All the basic attacks, specials, ex specials, focus attacks are done, but they all need a huge amount of fine tuning
Sound-0%

The sprites are ripped by kong (as far as I know) btw
I have the habit of finishing one part completely before moving on to the next, sound will not be added until everything about the actual gameplay is tuned to "perfection". Progress will be very slow since school is very busy and my hobbies aside from mugen pile up rather efficiently, I will post more progresses when I made some major improvements. I don't expect this character to be anything too significant, to me it helps me to familiarize myself with the engine and how the codes work so that I can go on to make more original contents, but I will definitely put a lot of work into this to make it more than just another generic POTS gouki clone or dumb god/shin/evil edit.

I won't suspect anything though I'll take it she was sleeping and didn't notice
you should have flipped over slowly

nice start, since your getting you timings using the frame data he should be solid  :), looking forward to more sf4 characters so keep up the work, and good edits!, i'll be ripping the bars soon so i'll hand them over when your ready!

Send me one sprite for him, and allow me to do the palettes please.  I can do really good palettes man.  Trust me.  I'de like to see this Gouki look as sweet as possible.  :)

hey cool man, glad to see another sf4 character in the works :)

When you've made significant progress on him, send him over, and i'll do a special video of him vs. my sf4 gouken :D  We should also work on a special intro between the 2  ;D ;D ;D

lol I do admit I'm having a really tough time trying to edit his focus attack stance, I'm forced to take bits and pieces of any sprites I can find since there doesn't seem to be a single sf3 shoto sprite that even come close to resembling his focus attack stance...I don't know, maybe I'll redo it if I have the time and skill, or maybe not --;

to be honest, given the sprite sheet you're working with, i think it looks pretty good :)  As i've come to realize with working on gouken...sf3 sprites might look nice because they're so fluid...but my god they're a pain in the ass to edit at all beyond what they normally llook like lol.  Just check out the elbow rush on my Riot Ken...it looks like crap..and that's a GOOD edit lol.

What do you think about having a special intro between my gouken and your akuma?   And if you need any coding help let me know, i've been considering making a sf4 gouki for a while, but now i don't have to :D so i'd love to help you with yours :)

Ok...so after a few hours of fiddling about...a video is finally up, please leave some feedback especially if you have experience with the actual SF4 game. I need all the help I can get now.... ;D

Wow, it's pretty awesome. Just like his sf4 counterpart!
Oh and slow down the focus attack, bit fast.

sweet update man, definately coming along, christmas came early lol, how come the dust explod only played for the 1st ground fireball wrong trigger perhaps? is the focus attack putting p2 into a custom state for him to collapse or is it a extended hittime? keep at it  :sugoi:

edit: hitsparks look abit small  :S , also you gonna be using custom bars? i'm sure you gonna have ultras in.

For the fireball dust effect I'm just didn't have time to put the rest in :S, the focus attack puts p2 into a custom state. As for the hitsparks, from what I see in some SF4 actual gameplay, that's about the right size for normal hitsparks. I can make it bigger if you guys don't like it. And yeah I'll definitely need the SF4 custom bar.

Are you using Zwiefuss SF3 Akuma sprite pack? If so when I was doing Sean I totaly messed up on the pallete because of his basketball that shared the colors in the pallete. With my knowledge with palletes is that if just that sprite looks all messy then it's the colors that are somewhere off the original pallete. If all of your sprites look like that then if you used FF and used Optimize button then that could be causing that. When making the 1st pallete when inserting the very 1st sprite in don't use optimize button and just use the colors FF gives you right away.

It appears that your palette and PCX/PNG colors are in two different areas.
Your probably going to have to start all over again.
