SFII Sheng Long - Sprite Attempts & Idea Engineering

Trying to come up with my own take on SFII Sheng Long. I've been toying around with some stuff, but I can't get what I like.
- The top two are mix of Ryu, with Ken's hair, Akuma's ripped karate gi. But colors don't work for the 15 color limit.
- The bottom two are just recolors of Ryu, with additional ripped Karate Gi.
- The one on the bottom left is almost close to the EGM april fools art in terms of colors, except it exceeds 15 color limit.
- The one on the right would be correct if the colors used the 15 limit. Except that it doesn't look right this way.
- Only one of the edits has the beard. I was thinking of not giving him one, and just make him a more 'younger' look so that there won't be any more editing than necessary for his appearance in the game.

I kind of had an idea to include him as a hidden fighter in a fan game I want to work on that upgrades the original SFII World Warrior. I've made a video on Youtube that explains a little about this idea, and the additional Sheng Long Character..
So I wouldn't be working in Mugen, I'm thinking about making it in another game maker software where I have a little more freedom and additional options I can add on to than Mugen provides.

And here are "mock-up" screens.


Though just temporary, and the face still looks like Ryu, but I kind of have an idea where I want to go with it. I was thinking I could make him like this just for now in terms of programming, and see if anyone wants to try their hand at changing the sprites into SFII incarnation of Sheng Long.

very interesting...but he's balding in the front..so maybe u can use vega's ponytail a a base and erase the front part.

Well, after asking about him in your project topic I came across this thread and just wanted to revive this for the purpose of sharing some ideas.

- The Shoryuken flames could be blue-white and burn opponents the same way Bison's Crusher does.
- Maybe make him combo a little easier and less strict than anyone else since he's supposed to be stronger? (you could possibly link Ryu's forward MP and forward HP with some of Ken's fancy kicks in there for good measure)
- Instead of Slide teleporting like Akuma, you could have him do the teleport stance but he would teleport on the spot just like Dhalsim's teleport behavior.
- his sprites go over the 15 color limit, but it is not apparent to the human eye and it still looks like a SF2 colored sprite...No biggie, break a rule here and there.

BTW the sprite looks great! Just needs a ponytail here and there which like you said could be added later along the road.

Well, after asking about him in your project topic I came across this thread and just wanted to revive this for the purpose of sharing some ideas.

Yea. I'd rather not have an 'Old Ryu' appearance to this. I'd rather have something that looked like from the original EGM AF article. I'm having problem doing the ponytail though.  But if someone else wants to try their hand at over 100 frames worth of sprites of SF2 Sheng Long that looks like the one from the EGM article, I'd be willing to try and give it a shot at programming him. ;)

Dude this character looks awesome! Finally someone out there who will make another sf2 style sheng long, is he going to have the ability to use every character's move like it says in the egm April fools joke?(please don't)!
