the game itself is footsies based, with most of the damage coming from counterhit combos. thats all i know

I played this at Round 1. The game isn't that good... that or I didn't really spent a lot of time trying to learn the weird critical hit mechanics.
The sprites might look good in the video but in the actual arcade you can tell they're not that amazing (They're pre-rendered 3D models, like those in Ragnard)

New? So a counter hit with long hitstun properties akin to KOFXIII's critical counter system, GG/P4A/BB's Fatal Counter, etc., is something "new"?

Sorry to say, but as much as the game looks cool with those sprites, I've seen some videos and the gameplay doesn't seem interesting at all. The matches are kind of boring, in fact.

In fact, I'm surprised it's even getting a release outside Arcades. I don't think it was really popular on them.

i've done some researching about the game and it's popularity, the first koihime musou was a adult visual novel and quite popular among perverts and romance of the three kingdom geeks (well they're mostly girls so maybe scratch the last part).

The game was in fact updated a few weeks ago.  Unfortunately they pulled an Examu and the update is an expensive USB drive add-on.
So far the reaction to the update has been positive.

If you want to pick up the arcade board yourself, lol.

A trial version for Shin Koihime Musou has been released 2 days ago before the pc version is released on the 31st of this month.
The only character allowed to be played in the trial is (Kanu)

I played the demo and it was kinda... awful. I can't judge the entire game with such small (But still freaking big in size) demo but it wasn't appealing at all.

The music was quite forgettable (And annoying during a fight).

The sprites looked awesome in low res 30 FPS videos but in game? Ugh not so much. Is not even SNES quality, it reminds me of those Doujin games with preset models with different wigs, and they're not even that smooth (Why not just using the freaking 3D models instead of rendering them like this is beyond me).

I wasn't expecting them to use a good engine for this fighting game (after all, the game isn't really that great), but using MUGEN as a base... well, I do hope it's legal to do that.

That said, iunno if one could get in trouble for commercializing a clone engine.

I already warned that the game wasn't really great. I mean, I watched some arcade matches and there was nothing impressive worth watching. It's a pity, really. It could have been a good fighting game.

Wow, a sequel? Unbelievable. Did this game even get enough sellings to justify a sequel? Just for the videos you can tell it's a really boring game.

Deleting your post was clearly not needed. Now it looks like he double posted.

Anyway, I played Shin Koihime Musou (in PSP btw, and the three games. Yeah, no kidding there) and fandisk, and I'm really glad to see Nagi as a playable character. She was one of my favourite characters in the sequel. Too bad she has to appear again in this game.

I wonder how many people played the Wii fighter, that was pretty bad too. I don't really see how they're able to continue this franchise. At least the guys from Phantom Breaker knew when to switch to a different genre.

I think they got the productoin cost fucking slow; we already know they have a dedicated if small fan base, considering that the fucking anime lasted 3 seasons.

....*Slightly raises hand* ..I was curious, okay? (And I have to admit, it's... bleh. The gameplay felt too awkward, while some chars almost act the same, I think. Oh, and did I forgot to mention how much I hate playing the Arcade mode in the game?)

Anyway, the last Koihime Musou fighting game was kinda alright to me. Was fun at first, but then died down later on after playing a bit on the PC. (Doesn't stop me from using Sei in the game however, along with loving the snow stage). I wonder how they're going to do in the sequel.
