I've been seeing mixed reviews around and I play Halo, ALOT. So should I get Destiny then? I have an Xbox One by the way.

If you enjoy shooters and MMOs, you should like it.

It's not bad.  It's not perfect, and it'll eat up a lot of your time, but for a Halo/Borderlands/Call of Duty MMO mesh it's better than just "good".  Story's lacking in the actual content shown department, rather the heft of it is told through small details you pick up on the Grimoire.  I found it similar to Dark Souls' story in appearing minimalist with deeper meaning through research.  So if you like reading, should be enjoyable.

If you're not in it for the story, you should hit the EXP level cap of 20 pretty fast, maybe a day or two.  As with many MMOs, the rest of the game becomes open for you at that point, and you'll probably hit 20 on the last story mission or the one before it going through Hard.  Levels beyond that are earned through matchmaking rewards, co-op or PvP, which unlock harder and more complex co-op missions and more Grimoire tidbits.  Co-op's usually pretty level balanced, usually a 2 level difference higher or lower, and in PvP all level advantages are disabled, though later earned abilities are still in play so you have that to watch out for if you go in early.  Guns are all balanced, so you'll want to find a weapon set good for your main game and PvP as well.

As for its relevancy to Halo, the weapons are similar enough in use but different in design.  Can't use enemy weapons though, so no Covenant weapons equivalent, and no vehicle hijacking.  A few of the enemies are re-skins or mash-ups of previous Halo enemies, such as Fallen to Elites, and Cabal are Brutes with Jackel shield tactics and Hunter shield bashing up close.  Game doesn't seem to follow Bungie's previous use of referencing past games and characters in here, so no Master Chief hanging out with the Marathon Man or Konoko around.  At least as far as I can find, some people think one of the buildings on Mars is shaped like Chief.

As with Halo though, it shares a great soundtrack.
