;D Well I am here, asking, Is smackdown vs raw 2008 for the ps2 any good? My cousin wants to get it for me but I dont wanna him to waste his (mostly likely dirty) money.Ok to keep it simple, I would like if you just awnser the questions below. Even if you only know the awnser to one of these questions, I would be greatful for a reply, 3 of these questions are just based on opinon.

-Would you recommend it?
-How many types of matches are there in Exhibition?
-Is 24/7 mode any good?
-How many wrestlers are there?
-Is the royal rumble in it?
That last question seems stupid, but if you played if for the Wii you would noticed alot of matches are missing and the royal rumble is one of them.
-From a 1 t0 5, what would you personally give it?
Well thanks for even wasting your time to read this thread :sugoi:

Well it doesn't suck but it does if you compare it to the 360 or PS3 versions.
It has alot of errors.  :P

I don't like the new one. It feels downgraded, especially for creation mode and the number of stars there.
It's true that if you own a PS3 then all arguments made by those who don't have one are invalid.

I got the game for the ps2 and I got no real problem with it. I got it for like $40 on wal-mart whereas the other consoles it would be like around $60 for the game.

So it really depends on your tastes.

If you want online capablity, get the next gen stuff. But if you want it cheaper with a bonus dvd (not sure if they got it in the other consoles) then by all measn get the ps2 one.

But its not really a game i'd switch to the Wii for. To be honest smash brawl is.

Wow... I can't believe the overall positive comments over this game.  I don't own SVR 2008 but I've played it many times now along with my friends who love wrestling games (they're wrestling fanatics), and we all agree this one is the worst of the recent smackdown games (even on next-gen consoles), and they've been getting gradually worse since 2006.  I'll make a list of just some of the things I can remember off the top of my head that makes 2008 worse.

1.  Added "fighting styles"  In other words, this basically limits everything you can do move-wise in the game by only allowing you to use certain moves together.  (I like to mix it up with my movesets... I like freedom.  Call me crazy.)  If you want to be a super-heavy, you can't use technical moves.  If you want to be a heavy using power, you can't use submission.  Sounds fun, right?  Also, this just limits the diversity of each wrestler on the roster in general.

2.  They removed manual targeting completely.  We kept attacking our own partners over and over. (I personally can't play this game without manual targeting)

3.  They removed PPV mode and added a crappy "Tournement mode"

4.  Despite what I've read others say on message boards, I (along with those I've played it with) find the control changes confusing and not intuitive at all.

5.  The whole roster this time around is a lot smaller and just... generally weak.  Every diva nobody cares about is in the game, no Shelton Benjamin in the game, but they put in a no-name joke like Kenny Dystra?

6.  The AI is worse in some ways (not much worse than 2007 though).   Wrestlers often seem to have no idea what is going on around them unless you get in their face and THEN they attack.  They sometimes do the exact same moves more than 10, 15 times in a row (literally... we counted).  The general flow of the matches just seems to be off more too.

7.  You MUST do your finisher in a fixed window of time.  In other words, you can't just save it once you have the crowd behind you once.  This means if you can't get it off right away, you're screwed and you lose it.

8.  Everything in matches this year moves slower than before.  IMO, slower than how it does live on television.  Some people may like slow matches, but seeing the usually quick Rey Mysterio take 5 minutes to do 3 moves and finish with a 619 isn't my cup of tea.

With all of this wrong with it, I'm sure many people out there will still get some enjoyment out of it.  At least the multiplayer-mode hasn't been completely ruined yet (wait until next year).  Fortunately for me, Fire Pro Wrestling Returns just came out, and the contract for continuing the Smackdown series expires in 2009.

1.Fighting styles does limit some things. but not alot.
It would be stupid if "The Great Khali" could jump off the ropes, etc.

2.???

3.Tournament > PPV mode.

4.Not really.

5.I agree with this.

6.same.

7.same.

8.wrong.

Fire Pro Returns is probably the best wrestling game.  ;D
If only it had online..

BTW 2007 was the best in the SvR Series.
2008 is now though. :sugoi: Online it is great.  :sugoi:

As others have said, it all comes down to taste.  Just like so many people buy every single Madden and swear by it each time, I'll never understand that or why people swear by SVR2008 either.  But at least you like Fire Pro.

And I'm not sure how one could be confused about #2.

1. I think the reason they did this is to make things fair for human players. How many times have I seen a person who is a super heavyweight do insanely cheap moves such as the shooting star press. Pretty much I'm not a fan of this system but I do appreciate it's fairness and the fact that people can master their own craft in terms of gameplay.

Imagine playing online with someone who has the powerhouse and high flying set. That screams cheap more than nightmare broli.

2. I agree with you on this one. It removes some of the freedom that the game once had.

3. This new tourney mode is better than the ppv mode IMO. It doesn't allow you to make a PPV, but you can at least play something new.

4. lol the control changes are not that hard. They just take getting used to them. But that is with any game.

5. Yeah, the game could have used more people. My idol the boogeyman wasn't even on it. :(

6. I think the AI is better in groups than by itself. Because for some reason they make the money in the bank matches really fun.

7. I agree with that halfway. I do think that they should allow you to store your special (with half dmg than usual of course) but alot of the time people would abuse this, making the game less challenging. I think they should have given you the choice to store it in your ability OR store it as a lesser special move by pressing a ceritan button combo (maybe r1 and r2 at the same time?)

8. Yeah that is true. Maybe they should allow you to choose normal or fast speed like they do in street fighter. But again I agree, the fighting is a bit slow.

EDIT: Oh yeah this came to mind right now. I think it's pretty sexist not to allow female characters to play in other of the game modes. Pretty much they are stuck with normal (no-dq) matches. And before you guys go "women can't do hardcore matches" look at Luna, Chyna, or my personal favorite Manami Toyota (her website: http://angela.milkcafe.to/).

And in svr 2006 it offended me that they made that bra and pnties match. *sigh* I guess I'll have to get used to the sexism in the wwe. At least until another Chyna pops up. That's when crap gets interesting.

Oh and in a game-related topic here was THQ's engine back when they were with AKI: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Co43oDGzEF0

Too bad they didn't make full use of thier predecessors by applying the "graphle struggle" system when it was in this game. I also remember tidbits here and there that were taken out such as being able to drag opponents into the backrooms (no mercy). Having these two in svr would have made it better.

Well it depends on your tastes but I still think they shouldn't have thrown that much away from THQ's previous wrestling games.

Even EA games used their engine.
