I despised Soul Calibur 3's art direction. I mean... Yoshimitsu was a fucking squid. I also felt as if all of the palettes/color schemes on all of the characters looked like regurgitated rainbow vomit. The PS2 couldn't handle such a vibrant color palette with all of that action going on, so everything looked subdued and blurry. The artwork looked good in paper form, but not while executed. And Olcadan?? An owl!? pass....I avoided SC3 all together and jumped back in with 4. While I was happy, I still felt as if things weren't as sharp as they once were (no pun intended). Therefore, you can see why my level of excitement for SC2 coming out is so high.
I thought SC3 was good. I liked Olcadan and I liked Talim's second costume, her first was kinda unremarkable to me. Vampire Raphael was brilliant, as was Siegfried's costumes.Namco can go to hell for not sorting that save bug though.
MightyKombat said, July 21, 2013, 12:28:51 amNot in SC2 he wasn't. I am very certain you couldn't play as Inferno in SC2 at all without hacking so seeing him outside of his home stage here pretty much hints he might be actually usable this time.I was gonna laugh at them mentioning Siegfried (Since he wasn't in SC2, or he was as Nightmare and as his 3rd costume" but if Necrid can't get in I'm sure they could put Sieg in anyhow. He's not Talim though.Probably a goof up given the fact that Sieg is quite a staple character in Soul Calibur. That said, how the hell would they even make Sieg in SC2? Nightmare had his moveset AND Sieg's in him.

For me, everything has to meld together and work as a cohesive whole or I will avoid it/complain about it. LOL I also played the shit out of part 2, so seeing something that looked drab in comparison chased me away. I tried it, and attempted to like 3, but couldn't.I also found this Soul Calibur 2 tier list on a Game FAQ page. I'd like to mention that I did a little searching and this is tier list is generally the same all across the board.QuoteThe general consensus is:TopXianghuaIvysometimes you will find people putting Yoshimitsu up hereMidEveryone not namedBottom:YunsungMaxiLinkI could live with Yoshimitsu and Ivy being top tier beasts.
MC2 Da Palette Gawd said, July 21, 2013, 01:31:23 amI hated SC3 and all of its glitchiness, I would never play it again. On top of the art direction complaint I mentioned, was it me, or was the game a little too... slow?? Compared to 2, it felt as if Namco slowed things down.

Some Soul weapons don't clip properly with created characters' hands. The AI could get pretty annoying too, especially Setsuka if you bumped into her. There're probably others I missed too. I still liked it though.

I think all of SC3's shortcomings were a by-product of it running on the PS2. Think about that for a second: glitches, slow gameplay, a bad color palette... Namco pushed the PS2 to its limits here, and all of these issues pop up.
I liked some bits about it though, like Crispin Freeman as Siegfried. I've no idea why he was replaced.

DMK said, July 21, 2013, 12:18:43 pmI thought it had less content then 2.Soul Calibur 3 had character creator, shop, extra movesets for created characters, chronicles of the sword, that giant statue boss thing, interactive story mode, new characters, recreated stages from past games, bonus Hwang & co.
Guess I'd remember more if I didn't have one of the early shit copies that stole muh save. Maybe thats why SC4 had almost nothing compared to the rest to. "Surely it wasn't the fact we didn't properly development the modes, its that no one liked them and nothing else we did could be the coprolite!"
They made Hwang and Li Long pointless as hell though. They brought them back but only as characters cobbled together from create-a-character parts. Sure they had unique lines but it still feels wasted. What was with that one Dragon guy that randomly appears in Tales of Soul mode? And for fucks sakes Namco that fucking piece of shit save glitch. You didn't fix that for the PAL version, for fucks sakes.
MightyKombat said, July 21, 2013, 01:50:12 pmAnd for fucks sakes Namco that fucking piece of shit save glitch. You didn't fix that for the PAL version, for fucks sakes.Damn dude. You must've been burned with your saves or something. I feel your pain.I remember the Arcade Cabinet having that AI feature that allowed for other players to battle against your Ghost while in single player. One of my best friends had a beastly AI that nobody could beat. I really hope Namco will allow for Ghost Battles and downloads for SC2. That would be a great way to practice as the Ultra Hard AI, while challenging, follows some stiff patterns that you could easily exploit.
I hope they'll be a mode online where we can use the alternate weapons.I would love to fight online with Raphael's Cane.
