I was playing MUGEN for a while, and i never figured out how to do special attacks, tried to search for it, or just quickly press buttons, but nothing worked.

My Keys are

WASD To walk.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 to attack

Every character has a completely different set of moves and commands for them.
If the author of the character has a readme in the character file, you might be able to find their moveset listed their.
Otherwise, you'll need to check out the character's cmd file for their list of moves.

Ik, but the thing is that it shows this. "QCF = Quarter Circle Forward (D, DF, F), QCB = Quarter Circle Back. HCF = Half Circle Forward (B, D, F), HCB = Half Circle Back", and it shows that you need to press stuff like QCF + P, QCB + P, ect.

Are you asking how to perform these attacks? Special attack commands varies with each character, but there's a tendency for the command to be the same. They're typically done by inputting certain arrow directions, and an attack button at the same time.

For example, Ryu's Hadouken can be performed by inputting QCF+P. You'll then need to input down, down+forward, then forward, using the arrows, and at the same time, the punch button.

Try checking the ReadMe text file of the characters to see what the commands are.

Or if you downloaded a char by a weeaboo pro fighting game player and you see shit like 236+P or something, the numbers correspond with keys on your numpad. So 236+P is like saying "Down, DownForward, Forward and Punch."

D,DF,F+P = QCF+P = 236+P

If you've played a fighting game before, things still work the same here. Just consult a characters readme. Or if you're slightly keen on coding, their .CMD file will also contain command contents when you open it up.

D,DF,F+P = QCF+P = 236+P

Exactly. This throws people off, but yeah, some authors use the 236+P in their readme's.

This is really a basic question that can be answered with a little research.

Keyboard Note:

On my 3 keyboards it would seem Mugen has an issue where if you set your keys for P1 to the Directional Buttons

plus the 1,2,3,4,5,6 on the Numeric Keypad, commands like Holding Down+FWD and pressing "a"/"1" or "b"/"2" or

 "x"/"4" or y/"5" won't work,     Holding Down+Back and pressing "a"/"1" or "x"/"4"  doesn't work,

 and Holding Back and pressing "y"/"5" or "z"/"6" won't work

That's because if you don't use the directional keys, your button presses will be limited to 2/3 at a time which fucks things up royally. I'd suggest just keeping the movement on the directional keys. Or getting a controller/fightstick hooked up to your computer.

Even if you use the direction buttons it screws things up royally. I think it may be a Numeric Keypad issue although I'm not gonna go test that yet. Ref Below:

I'm with this. I have just about every controller adaptor available for the likes of PS2, SNES, Genesis, and Saturn. And then some. For more complex moves it's best to go the controller route. Adaptors allow for any device made for that console, so you could go for an actual controller or an arcade stick. Amazon has just about anything you could think of through a proper search cirteria. Everything is relatively priced too.

Remap your buttons then. If I were to use a keyboard, I would usually set them to old school style settings:

Up: W
Down: S
Left: A
Right: D

And then I usually have the attacks set as:

Punches
Jab: U
Strong: I
Fierce: O

Kicks
Short: J
Forward: K
Roundhouse: L

I'm getting the sense that you're making things a bit overly complicated when they shouldn't be. Even with Mugen's default layout I've never encountered a problem like this before. Some moves are difficult to perform on a keyboard, but I've never had issues with them. And if you've ever played a fighting game before, then commands are usually exactly the same, whether you use number terminology for directional inputs or not. You still have Quarter Circle Movements, Half Circle Movements, Charge Commands and the like.

I reset them 5 months ago. I'm simply highlighting that the Opening Poster's problem has to do with Mugen itself which doesn't respond properly to particular command layouts, i.e. when you use the Numeric Keyboard for your attacks.

The layout I've been using for the past 5 months is:
Dirctional Buttons+
ZXC - kicks
ASD - punches

I'm using the Numeric Keyboard buttons for the attacks.

Directional Button for movement (up, down, left, right)
a = 4
b = 5
c = 6
x = 7
y = 8
z = 9
Start = Enter

and they work fine for me. I keep NumLock activated to play, otherwise some buttons don't work properly (eg I have to press one button twice to make it work).

What version of Mugen are you using? Perhaps getting a new mugen engine would help too, I don't know. :P
I have never had this problem.

I was about to reply to Alex, but thanks XGargoyle. I found your old post
It's called "keyboard masking" and it's a hardware limitation in many keyboards. There's no way to avoid that other than using a different combination of keys that don't result in masking

On a side note. Messatsu and a gang of others are too smart. Not sure where their numbers came from, but I didn't understand a word. Do not try to explain it to me because I'm satisfied with my ignorance for now.
