Speed up starting time?

Is there a way to speed up the amount of time it takes to start MUGEN? I'm using the EVE screenpack so once I press the START button on the loading screen, it takes forever to start! Sometimes it doesn't even start, it just stays at the loading screen for hours(crashes). Does anyone know any tricks?

Well, that thread doesn't really help my problem because my MUGEN runs smooth when it comes to fights. It only takes a while to get to the menu screen! After that, it runs flawlessly.

Umm... I have the same issue with my older Mugen that I'll actually play: its a matter of loading 17gigs worth of data. I believe it takes mine a solid 2.5 minutes to load. Once that is over with, everything runs with no issue. Also, subsequent starts will warrant less loading time. I believe its data caching... Or something.
All of your Mugen Portrait needs may be found HERE.

I'd like to report two robots on the MFG forums: One is EXShadow. The other is Saikoro.
There should be a Saikoro plugin for Photoshop.

Yeah, well I don't mind the loading time THAT much, but what really pisses me off is that most of the time it just crashes! I can go take a shower and then come out and it's completely frozen and says not responding -_- and I'm only loading about 5 GB of data which isn't THAT much.

5 GB is a bit much.

My main was about 3 GB at most and my portable, practice was less than a GB.

actually, 5 gig is pretty huge: think about it: mugen has to load characters, stages, sounds, music etc...
to counter long ass mugen loading, the only efficient solution i know is having various screenpacks with small rosters.

Actually, you're right. I'll probably do a little clean-up soon, but I think the main cause is all those mp3 files for stages. Can I use midi files instead? Because they're a lot smaller than mp3s!

Yes. Midi was what we used back in 1999~

You can optionally look to convert your MP3s (back them up first!) to OGG or smaller MP3s (lower bitrate). It may or may not work.

Midi will sound mildy like a very cheap/weird version of what you got. It's not actual music, but rather, a set of instructions that tell your PC/sound card what sounds to make.

OGG will be better as it can sound like the mp3 exactly, more or less (some audiophile will correct me here no doubt). But it is also larger than a midi.
