I went through two ipods in two years, both conveniently dying within a week after warranty expired. I used to troubleshoot campus computers, and the macs had the STUPIDEST problems (ie: Capslock literally getting broken, people's essays getting corrupted between PC and Mac transitions), and we had to keep getting new ones.

In comparison, my Sandisk Sansa mp3 player got punched, cracked screen, and got caught in the rain, and STILL worked for more than two years until I bumped someone on the sidewalk and lost it to the sewer FOREVER. And a computer I got as a 17th birthday present managed to keep up the pace until sometime earlier this year (24 right now).

My exact thought.

As for durability, they only think about making money.
They had lawsuits for their first iPods, where the battery would die after a year or two, and you wouldn't be able to change it.
The only Apple product I've owned is the 1st generation iPod Touch, and it's still working like a charm.
Too bad my next phone will probably be the Samsung Galaxy S2, since Apple has failed hard with the iPhone 4S, not bringing any novelty to the table.

I'm glad you brought that up. I've been hearing about the new iPhone 4S everywhere, turned out it was the same thing as the iPhone 4, just with better "speed". I was actually disappointed, but kind of made me more determined that they were just in it for the money.

Same for me (though I used Mac for designing things and they're really good for such thing). Other products feel like alternative versions of other existing ones from other companies but more cool-looking and way more expensive.

But hey, there's no doubt he was a genius, and I respect him for that. Too bad he died so early because of cancer. RIP, Steve Jobs.

I think you're overstating his influence a bit too much. Apple is not almost always the first; they're simply almost always the first at popularizing a certain type of technology. And I have no doubt that had they not existed, someone else would have taken their place.

Still, RIP.

what has Apple innovated? Mp3 players? Tablet computers? Touch screens?—these existed long before their Apple versions came out.
Uh. Apple made them usable - and affordable - for the public, common users and non-tech-savvy users. Smartphones and tablets were like "oh nobody is ever going to use that shit" in the general public. Apple made them popular. Tablets existed before the iPad, but they weren't exactly flooding the market, first because it was way too expensive, second because it was unusable shit - because Apple's versions also pushed forward the kind of things the tech-unfriendly public could do with those.
I'm not an Apple fan at all (I have nothing from them and I don't give a damn about fancy popular new tech, my cellphone is over 6 year old and I salvaged it only because my father didn't need it anymore), but I did see a very significant change with the iPhone and the iPad all around me.
If I struggled to the end of my determination, to the end of my way of life with my followers, if the result is ruin, then this ruin is inevitable. Grieve. Shed tears. But you cannot regret.

He was pretty much the dude solely responsible for phones having wifi. Admittedly, someone else would have done it, but about 2 years later. Think about the kind of advances that technology gave us in the past two years.

...now realize that phone wifi capability is the reason for data plans costing so much.

He was an innovative man, a good businessman, may he rest in peace. For better or worse, his influence won't be forgotten.

An iPad is just an iPhone with a bigger screen, that's all (plus, you can't call with it).

The journalists from the Apple sect/followers really need to stop making comparisons between Jobs and Newton/Einstein, it's boring and completely stupid. He was a genius in his own way, but nothing like Einstein. his primary goal was making money as the CEO of Apple. Yes, Apple has popularized smart phones, tablets and all, but people should stop thinking he's the genius who created them. First, they existed before (even though, as Byakko said, he made them more user friendly. But still, Blackberry is much older), and second, he wasn't alone in a cave to create them, more like having tons of engineers working 80 hours per week to design the products that would be manufactured in China by little kids, before being sent back to Europe and US, sold 3 times more expensive than other products, but all hyped up so people would buy them.

What sickens me is seeing Apple fans going in front of Apple shops to put flowers. WTF is that !? Are you just showing your fanatism for consumerism ? He was a goddamn CEO who made nice looking shiny stuff, that's all ...

Now, that's how we feel about the iProducts which is indeed hit or miss, there's no middle ground.

Jobs himself ... was a great businessman who made shiny stuff. He knew how to place his products as commodities. He had great vision for business, and thus died a blillionaire. He founded Pixar, which meant a shitload of money to Disney's shareholders, and many fond Toy Story memories for everyone.

So yeah, he was the Newton, the Gutenberg ... of moneymaking, and making people buy his stuff. RIP Steve Jobs, man who gave casual consumers something to aspire to - gadgets with a less than 1 year lifetime, precursor of great business models to be implemented by other consumer product business conglomerates (Capcom, I'm looking at your MVC3)

before being sent back to Europe and US, sold 3 times more expensive than other products, but all hyped up so people would buy them.
yeah i'd like to know where byakko got the perception that apple makes these things affordable

The man created an evil army of techno zombies satiated only by the tiniest of upgrades(would do anything he commanded)  and was the CEO of one of the largest conglomerates ,whose wealth rivaled that of some 1st world countries. Who knows what would have happened if his plans hit their final stages. Military mobilzation? The U.S. becomes a shattered union once more? Annexation of Canada? Alliance with China? The destruction of flash media? WW3? He would have become a tyrant that no one would been able to stand up to.
hi i know youre trying to be funny but apple still exists and they still have a shitload of money

It's not three devices in one any more than my laptop is you morons. Using Jobs' loose definition of what constitutes a separate device, technically my laptop can be considered 8 devices in one:

    A clock
    A calculator
    An "Internet communications device"
A phone (I can make voice calls with my modem)
    A pornographic media storage device
    A video player
    A word processor
    And an "iPod"

very big ass motherfucking phone you got there pal!

Tablet prices were anywhere from $800 to $5000 until the iPad. Today, they're between 500 and 800 (high end stuff peak in the $1200-$1500 range), which was the price the iPad came out at.
BlackBerries before 2007 were over $800 and not designed for the general public at all.
Whether Apple's things are affordable or not, they're more so than those kinds of items were before then.

I insist that I'm not an Apple fanatic at all, but this is what I saw. Nobody was using those things before Apple's versions, the BlackBerry and so were too expensive and aimed to be used for work. Even if Apple users are sheep praising a guru, usage of these things changed.
If I struggled to the end of my determination, to the end of my way of life with my followers, if the result is ruin, then this ruin is inevitable. Grieve. Shed tears. But you cannot regret.

I agree with both of you actually.
Apple has made things 'affordable' by middle class standards.
They took several impractically priced devices and made them reasonable for the common man.

At the same time, I'm not speaking for Apple's foreign presence, but in the states their image is exclusively high-end. They know that the lower class isn't their clientele (unless they're saving up to buy an iPod), and they hold themselves as such. Their stores are located in only the most wealthy areas. You won't find one at the average mall. It will probably be beside Nordstrom. Once you get inside, they definitely give you the feeling that if you don't usually shop in the complex they're located, you probably shouldn't be there.

There's one more thing about the iPhone I'm having trouble remembering and I can't find anything specific enough by research, so I'll ask here if anyone knows. Before, Internet on a cellphone was with shitty WAP. After, real browsers and HTML popped up, making it actually usable and casual. Was that Apple or was it there before the iPhone ? (Blackberry etc.)

Sorry for the bump, but I must say...

Do you know what this reminds me of?

Something rectangluar and white and has a creepy tone to it.
Good news for all of you.

I'm banned forever.

Please, just let the ban quietly pass and whatever you do, I beg you, DO NOT CHEER. Do not celebrate that you've won about the fact that I'm banned forever. Let it slide, PLEASE DO NOT CHEER. Don't cause me to shitpost again. I didn't even recall making a shitty post before I got perma'd. I hated this forum anyway. It doesn't even feel I'm taking part in a MUGEN forum.

Well, ungoodbye to you all and I hope you all burn in hell.

Iphone was the first real mobile internet browser although I must use the disclaimer that it didn't have flash but could play youtube with the app. So full browser minus flash, if you consider it a full browser.

Before that... it was like using Lynx. But Blackberry did have the best of those kinds of shitty browsers. Windows was starting get there too, but they were using text links and a shitty mouse ball.

Two years before the iPhone popped around, I used Opera at my Nokia E62 and it was awesome.
