Sorry if this is in the wrong section and sorry that I'm slowpoke.jpg

Explain to me again why Vega, Balrog, and Mike Bison's names were switched around by CoA.
  Feel the love.

Mike Bison sounded too much like Mike Tyson is the running theory.

Also that's why he's now M. Bison to most people.

In M.U.G.E.N there is no magic button

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.

Wasn't that what they were aiming for in the first place?  A boxer slightly named after a famous boxer.

Yeah, I was thinking that had something to do with it.  Legal issues are usually the cause of most changes in video games when coming from JP to US, or so I think.

Well, I wasn't sure, but thanks for clearing that up.  You're still awake?  Awesome.
  Feel the love.

Second question : Why did they include claw in that name exchange crazyness ?

Spoiler: Theory (click to see content)

There's nothing official about it ?

Apparently switching three sound bites around was easier than getting the announcer back in the studio to record a replacement for Boxer.

The theory of making the names sound a bit more proper than a simple swap makes sense.

  • Death or Glory.
How dare you miss out Gouki/Akuma.

(why was he changed anyway?)

From what I read a while back, CoA had some fetish about making him a daemon, and so gave him a more daemonic name.

I think you got it backwards.

Probably not. They started that thing about how Gouki was an actual demon, or demon-possessed, and switched his name accordingly. Not that I have any idea how they expected anyone to make the connection more than "Gouki".
There's also Nash who was renamed into Charlie for no reason.

Haha that's a good point, SSF2T is older than the (full blown) age of manga and anime afterall, don't think people could connect "aku" to much.

  • does this look like the face of mercy?
Charlie comes from the first translations of the sf2 manuals for the pc version, there, they had changed nash into charlie already, probably just to get a normal sounding name.

I see the Nash/Charlie names as evoquing different vibes for the character, where Nash is a cool guy like Japan intended and Charlie is the generic war buddy name.

Also Gouki should've been "Equinsu Ocha", people could relate to that.
