After now obtaining the Wii U version, I can safely say that the 3DS version had a better stage selection. Most of the stages on the Wii U (save the retro ones) leave you fighting both the stage and the other player(s), while the 3DS had a nice selection of stages with only a few stage hazards. Not a fan of the new Classic mode, and the A.I. is incredibly thick for some reason.

i think the wii u has better stages overall. at least the settings are nicer for omega stages. the 3ds version also had plenty of stinkers.

wii u's pacman stage is the fucking worst. you had the opportunity to add a stage based on one of the most popular games in history (regular ass pacman) but instead you pick some mspaint scrolling dogshit. what is wrong with you

Wii U has Pac Land and Skyworld which are irredeemably shitty, but on the whole I think it has better stages.  Only stages I really miss are Magicant and Reset Bomb Forest.

I kinda miss SNES Mute City.
That's about it really. I'd say Magicant, but that's only if it comes without the Flying Men.

I think Pac-Land has its place in history. After all, here we go:

Pac-Land and most of its design and graphical appearance was based off of what is documented as one of if not the first cartoon adaptation of a video game, the Pac-Man cartoon. Pac-Land's design, characters and overall appearance are all based on said TV show, basically a direct tie-in to it. Stuff like Pac-Man wearing the hat he did during Pac-Land's gameplay, the appearance of the ghosts, stuff like Pac-Man's cat and dog along with the inclusion of Pac-Man's baby (yes this was also a part of the TV show, I don't know either). The TV show ran for about one year on ABC I believe.

It's essentially a callback to the old Pac-Man more than it is to the quality of the actual game Pac-Land (it wasn't that great, honestly, but hey, retro stuff!) As a bonus it represents one of the first designs for Pac-Man that was actually integrated in-game as more than a single circle with a piece removed.

Just food for thought.

Nah, it's pretty historic as far as video games go, even for technical arcade reasons (things like parallax scrolling on an 8-bit arcade machine, pretty incredible for its time!)

IDK, it's got a rich history behind it like any other piece of Pac-Man video games from Pac-Man World 2 and prior.

Kinda wish they gave Pac-Man a costume where he wore his Pac-Land hat, though. That would've been a good way to tie it together a bit better.

The stage sucks because it's an ugly un fun side scrolling disaster.  If the stylistic choice is a problem nobody would like Flat Zone.

I'm not debating how good or bad it is, all I said was that it's probably there for a reason. It's one of the first representations of games tied directly to media (TV Show) and it was a thing in Arcades as well.

I don't really like it much either but I understand why it's there and why they chose it. It's not a GREAT stage but they picked it because of its relevance in history. Flat Zone 2 is absolutely godawful fuck that place, but it's still there and it's important cause it essentially replicates the old G&W games which shouldn't need explaining. (Well it's Flat Zone X now but Flat Zone 2's segments and Flat Zone 2 were awful.)

If you want a trash stage that doesn't even make sense, I'm more on Pokefloats than I am on this one.

I'm just saying that in a game that practically celebrates the history of video games as an entertainment medium, the last thing I want to play on is an ugly MS paint side scrolling stage.

i understand pacland's historical relevance (which you're overrating) but it completely pales in comparison to regular pacman's historical relevance

Personally, I thought Pac-man got pretty terrible stages in both games. While I was quite looking forward to playing the Pac-land stage, after playing it I was sorely disappointed.

Honestly there's much better Pac-Man stages that could've been picked, like, shit, even Pac-Mania stages (which would probably look a lot like Lego if it was Block Town in particular).

Or hell, Pac-Man World even!

But I'm okay with what I got, I guess. They could've done Atari Pac Man or some shit LOL

maybe it's because you live in an inferior country that did not have pacland arcades, but I still got the fucking music stuck in my head.

I'm just saying that in a game that practically celebrates the history of video games as an entertainment medium, the last thing I want to play on is an ugly MS paint side scrolling stage.
The MSpaint-ness (And one of the medleys having a Dragon Spirit sample in it) makes it my favorite Omega Mode stage.

Melee's batch of stages are my favorite. Pokefloats was the shit.

I'm also under the impression that people keep neglecting data from the game, do you guys know how PotS made his original characters? He actually studied every single game he referenced, down to the core. Doing this properly requires understanding how the original system was made, not just winging it.

So I was looking at the latest tier list at Eventhubs and does anyone find it ironic that a Kong character is both a top and bottom
tier character? Diddy considered the best while DK is the worst.     http://www.eventhubs.com/tiers/ssb4/
