Well, they're super fucking generic or just reach new levels of low for a series that's had some fairly good and overall positive designs. 6 had its own mishap with Miguel but he wasn't too bad, and at least they tried to fix it in Tag 2. I personally miss the older days of having newer characters' default look be their martial arts training or fighting gear and their alternate be their work or casual attire, it was still generic as fuck sure but it wasn't insultingly generic. Regardless, maybe they need time to grow on us, and I can't say I mind it too much in an era where we can customize them to our liking or just use alternate costumes as well.
Shaheen (A name of bird ie Falcon in Urdu). That Design is so common now. Yeah I doubt how he will go with Better story :| Yet Let see the next character that can blow our minds when revealed. Design wise Claudio & Katalina look Great.Lucky Chloe well we hate her and I doubt that.Shaheen really not the outfit I once thought But still Its pretty much casual.
Bad News GBK said, January 01, 2015, 11:40:55 amIs it just me or do all new T7 characters so far more or less suck? (visual design wise)It's not just you, they all look rather uninteresting. Shaheen is no exception; sure he's not an offensive stereotype but they could've done more. He's tolerable I guess.Despite all the rage and backlash Chloe is probably the one who pops out the most imo; her hideous outfit is what ruins her design.Shwa said, January 01, 2015, 11:07:08 amI was thinking more on the lines of Jin Fu-ha upon first seeing new guy here.
Lith said, January 01, 2015, 11:54:36 amWell, they're super fucking generic or just reach new levels of low for a series that's had some fairly good and overall positive designs.Goddamn this. Nobody's going to remember this character. Compare him to their FAR more interesting characters in terms of design (like King or Jin) and this guy just looks lazy and uninspired.
Shwa said, January 01, 2015, 11:07:08 amI gotta admit he'd look pretty fuckin' generic... in anything other than Tekken. It's just one of those series where pretty much anything is par for the course, I guess.Digging the cape, though, but for some reason I look at him and I think of this guy.shoutouts to scrapped charactersNot the first time Tekken have done this. Remember King was based on a scrapped SF2 concept.@Everyone bitching about character "design": Have you considered that his gameplay might be interesting? Nobody gave a single fuck about Zafina either until they actually played with her.

"Shaheen" from Saudi Arabia.Well, from first looks... it's not bad. In fact, it's kinda straight forward in my mind. You want a character that can be a tasteful rep of the Arab nations, yet you want to avoid any awful stereotypes about those people.The... head dress (or shemagh) is a nice nod to the past (while the cape might be a bit much for my tastes) while the nice dress pants and shoes showcases the Western influences creeping into the Arab world. Now, I want to see gameplay of this guy. I know there aren't many martial arts based in the Middle East (Kung Fu To'a, which is a mix of Kung Fu and Yoga, has been mentioned here. Another one is Nearu, but that might be too unknown to most), but what about a martial art that hasn't been seen in the Tekken series?

This might be weird, but I don't think they covered Krav Maga yet. Krav maga is full contact variation of karate so idk.

Nobody gave a single fuck about Zafina either until they actually played with her.I'll give you her gameplay was interesting, but I personally still don't like that character. She's super boring to look at as well.I think character design is extremely important to a character, even down to the color choice. For example barring Ryu and possibly Ken, I don't think SF (or Tekken for that matter) would be nearly AS popular without it's colorful and iconic characters. This dude is Ezio with an even more bland color palette and not even a single interesting costume piece. Chloe's at least more fun to look at.
Nina is the one of the most iconic and popular character in the Tekken series and fighting games in general and she has one of the blandest designs ever.
Duos said, January 01, 2015, 08:12:55 pm@Everyone bitching about character "design"Guess I'm guilty there too; I'll just say I'm pretty good at seeing where I'm wrong. At least this thread isn't the total nonsense that can be found in other places; I'll take debating about aesthetics over terrorist misogyny racist bs anyday.
I'm just saying that if you write off characters as "boring" just based on how they look you'll only have like 10 Tekken characters left. I don't think anyone will dispute that Baek, Paul, Law, Lei, Marduk and Feng are all pretty dull looking, but their styles are so unique that Tekken wouldn't be the same without them. Really I can forgive a lot if the character plays well.
Paul's got the mighty hair, and Lei is the very rare addition of Jackie Chan in a genre that usually only cares about Bruce Lee (who is also here anyway) so no way in hell he gets disregarded for being dull. Agree on the others.
I like the new guy design. It looks like a pretty good imo. Liking the cap. Pretty good and looking forward to see how it plays?Generic? In what sense? I sincerely dont see it...
Generic as in 'generic arabic guy'. Try googling that yourself and you'll probably understand it.edit: actually works better if you omit 'generic'.
people are going to comment about the character's physical appearance because there's nothing else to say about the character. maybe he will be interesting to play as, but it'd be better if it was a character that had interesting gameplay and looks at the same timei think he looks alright
