I have finally begun the odyssey of updating the old sprites. This will be a stickied topic where I will constantly update the first post to show the progress of the sprite updates.

***December 12th 2009***

The first chracter I've decided to update is Vesper. As you can see, she has undergone a slight outfit change as well as updated colors and details. She now has ditched the more familiar Cammy riding boots in favor of thigh-high leather boots. Fits the character more if you ask me.

She's about 10% updated as of now. This is actually moving along pretty quickly, so the characters who aren't getting outfit updates and are just getting the new detail and color should move even faster.

Comparison, old version on left:

Check this topic to see more updates as I chug along.

**December 15th***

Vesper is officially done. That went a lot faster than I thought it would. On to the next character, probably Bloodtide or Sabotage. Woohoo!

Here's a video of her:

**December 26th**

I just finished up Moses Maddigan after the family went home on Christmas. My roommates all had to work so I didn't have much else to do, so I went ahead and put the finishing touches on Moses Maddigan's updated sprites. Not only does he have added detail and the extra color depth of Byrne, Ruckus, etc., but I also made a small cosmetic change to him, by having his tie tucked into his vest. Here are a few gifs:

Stance

Standing MP

Walk

Event hough these are only three of the animations, ALL of his sprites are now updated. Here's a quick sprite comparison from old to new, including the change in default palette:

I will post a Youtube video soon showing him off, and then move on to my next character, probably Thirteen since he's so popular.

***January 2nd***

Officially began updating Thirteen. I'm through most of his standard animations (stance, walk, crouch, jump, etc.) and all of his required sprites are updated. Here's his stance:

Up close comparison:

Been running into weird palette issues, but with some tweaking I think I solved them, for now.

***January 16th***

Finished Thirteen, released in the main section (http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=111130.0). Adamas is next for updates, then Snow or Sabotage. Progress may be slow due to school starting up again, but I'll try my best.

***June 2nd 2010***

Been awhile since I updated this. Finished Adamas and released him, now I'm working on The Specialist. Here's a side by side comparison of his old sprites and new:

Old on left, New on Right

He should be a quick update to do, since he doesn't have as high of a frama count as some of the others or my newer characters. The goal is to make sprites blend in first and foremost, but I may add a few frames of animation here and there to smooth things out. Sabotage or Snow should be after him. School's out so I should have more free time to do this.

***Big Update June 28th***

So not only is The Specialist done, I went ahead and updated Zenith too. All the way. So now that he's out of the way, that leaves only the following characters to update (I've included details on their updates):

-Snow - Should be an easy one lik ethe previous two. I think I've been purposely putting this off because I felt like if I updated the character based on me first it would be vain.
-Sabotage - He's not only getting the shading update, but his shirt is being changed to a looser fitting buttun-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up and the front and tail of the shirt hanging out.
-Wyldestar - Dreading this one. High frame count + small size/less room for details = Headache and the possibility her sprites will look cluttered and messy.
-Kane - High frame count, but otherwise an easy update. He's never been released before so I could still make changes to his design.
-Bloodtide - In need of all new sprites. She's too small and her sprites are ugly compared to everyone else, and simple editing won't be enough. Sigh.

And that will be it. Then I can focus on the last new character and the screen pack. Wee!

Here's a sprite of Zenith updated as well as what Sabotage will now look like:

Further Updates will appear in posts further down the thread. This post is huge so I won't keep adding to it.

It was always a pain fighting Vesper, but I seemed to rather enjoy it.
The update looks good.

With the way you work, those sprites will be updated in no time. Let's prepare for S.H.A.D.E.S. of Manhattan 2.

she's too clinched up in the neck possibly due to the left deltoid being so high up. I would say heighten the neck by a pixel or so. It would look alot better.

When I say I like something, it means keep it up, but when I say I like it and it's getting even better then I imagined, this is my reaction. The sprites and the improvements are minor but they add to S.H.A.D.E.s themselves. And offtopic, am I the only one who thinks Snow's SHADES 1 stance is extremely identical to Robert's Stance in KOF2k3?

That would be because (sorry sean for breaking your trade secrets sean) its based off the stance animation movements.

Well, it's not "extremely identical" because Snow's arm placement is different, but yes, Robert's 2K3 form is the base for most of his animations. I'm good with proportioning (most of the time), the actual spriting, and I have the drive and time to work on whole character's worth of sprites that many don't, but I am no good at making my own animations. They always look bad, so I use other characters' animations as bases. I still sprite the whole character (save for some hands and feet), which is hard work, but yes, the animations can be easily recognized most of the time. I try to mix things up and change things as much as I can so that they're unique enough, but that's not always the case. Thanks for the support!

Good to hear guys. Hey, Shockdingo, I never got around to sending you stuff to voice Kane Kelly. Would you still be interested? My big problem was coming up with things for him to say, but I think I could figure it out now.

haha nice moses is badass one question tho in the end was he suppose to catch evil ryu?

also i never really liked your choice of color for your afterimages, just never felt right.
I wouldn't consider that a infinite since you have to make your opponent bounce of the wall and if you do it on the wrong side of the stage the stage interaction would activate.

Yeah, he was supposed to. Maybe because Evil Ryu got killed it caused a little problem ? Maybe SeanAltly could make it so that the move only kills on the last smash, for more dramatic effect.

I think at the very end of this you should give the old 2008 Fray the same treatment. Plus, it had some odd issues, like the taunt being invincible and giving power to Fray.

Well, the taunt was supposed to give power (everyone's was supposed to), but it wasn't supposed to be invincible. Oops.

Also, I hated those old sprites for her, so I probably won't update those.
