from Play Magazine

[From Jonathan "Jay" Beard, President & CEO of BottleRocket]
....No disrespect meant to other horror games, but I really feel as an industry, we have let the genre down. I am a fan of horror movies, especially early Jackson, Raimi, Romero and Fulci. I like my horror to be wet and sticky. Our industry has made some pretty creepy horror games, but the gore has always been fairly lame. Sure, anyone can throw a bunch of red sprites at the floor and say, "Look at OUR gore. Gruesome, eh?" But to me it all just looks like ketchup. Real blood sprays, drips and rolls down walls. It pools and congeals, it soaks into clothing and drips from fingers."

He goes on to describe Rick ripping enemies apart like a "wet bag of guts", which would splash onto the floor.

In describing the location of West Mansion itself, Creative Director Erik Medina had this to say...
....The West Mansion is a place where some gruesome and disturbing experiments have occurred. Some of those experiments have gone horrifically wrong, and there are signs of this everywhere. We are being influenced by the original game's mansion style, but are adding some history to the experiments that will date back very far in story and in style. The history will effect the architecture and technology in Dr. West's world. We're going to wrap this up with some good old-fashioned high-contrast lighting and blood, blood, blood. After all, it is Splatterhouse."

Co-Producer Dan Tovar went on to state that "Ther is a sense of history and plenty of evidence of the horrors that have occurred there."

And moreover, it is claimed that a good 40% of the game occurs outside, so the lion's share of the game should take place in the mansion.

For the ones who don't know about the game just go this site called the West Mansion http://splatterhouse.classicgaming.gamespy.com/index.html

This site has all the info of the first splatterhouse games!

Some new sreenshots

http://www.1up.com/do/media?cId=3167491&sec=IMAGES

Now there are a few things I would like to point out. The most obvious is that we have images of actual zombies (minus the clowns) which are covered in boils and just plain look gooey. The second to point out is the stronger looking monster, looks like a leader compared to the other demons.

http://www.1up.com/media/03/6/6/0/lg/806.jpg?r

^ Now for some technical stuff. Looks like they reskinned the monster in here once more making him look even more fitting with SH. And best yet, they took out those dumb looking belts they had before. Looks like the spiked arm has been changed around a little as well. Now look into the background of the right side... Looks like we have our first reference to the original. Hell Chaos appears as part of something in the amusement park. Though just not living... or undead.

I find it cool that Rick just sounds like a regular guy. He doesn't have some generic Hulk voice or something.

So far so good! It looks very dark and gory as it should.

Update

Splatterhouse will be at the NY Comic Con!

The Splatterhouse panel will feature design and story leads working on the game discussing the creative process behind this highly-anticipated title. In addition to the game’s producers from NAMCO BANDAI Games, writer Gordon Rennie of comic book fame (Necronauts, Judge Dredd) will be on-hand to discuss the game and take questions from fans in this hour-long session taking place from 4:45pm-5:45pm on Friday, February 6 in Panel Room 9 (1A22). The panel will also debut a new trailer for the game, giving the first glimpse of gameplay footage from this gory revival.

Pretty much my thoughts too. I kinda wish they'd just stick with the old format (and it does look mighty strange for someone that big to sound like he's a smaller guy) but all in the name of "progress" I guess...

Yeah, it really does, and lost the feel of the original. Does anyone really want a remake of the original anyway? Always figured it was more a case of wanting to see what happened after 3 because of the multiple endings.
