Well, i've recently started thinking of getting myself a laptop (my first one), i would be using it primarily for burning cds and dvds. so taking this into consideration, i wanted to know what would be the ideal specs i should look for in a laptop, ex. processor, how many GHz, how much RAM, etc.

any help and suggestions would be appreciated  :)

um... "anything with a dvd burner"? :P

you need to be a little more precise. are you not gonna use it at all besides of that? is battery runtime important? what's your budget (new/second hand)? do you favor any kind of operating system?

there's no such thing as "ideal" - but there's "appropriate"

These days you want a Core 2 Duo at 1.6ghz-2.0ghz, 4gb RAM (although will probably be 3gb only as they come shipped with 32bit Vista) and a 15 inch screen.

At basic this will do most basic tasks.

the main use would be cd and dvd burning, although i'll probably be surfing the 'net with it too. budget is really no problem for me. and i would prefer Windows XP or Vista, but i don't know if the OS you use affects the burning process

get a dvd copy console then, no need to buy a laptop. Alternatively buy the cheapest laptop you can find that has a dvd burner.

this is basic these days O_o

i remember a time when ram was only 12000kbs and that was HUGE.

go to best buy/future shop. MAKE SURE you get one with a new processor. theyll give you good laptops with decent prices. keep in mind laptop batteries are pure bull, barely lasts a full 3 hours.

"most tasks"? this will do anything that's not high-end gaming, movie post-processing or shit like that. most people just can't tell the difference between a portable desktop machine that has just enough battery to get from one power socket to the next and a proper laptop.

get a dell business laptop from their homepage. any $500 model will work just fine. good deals, proper warranty, no bullshit.

Ya, I didn't include gaming/video processing in there, they're seperate fields. And also I included those specs to adhere to 2-D's requirements heehee.... unless he wanted to play GTA4.

that's far from being a basic, kiki either lives in a country where computers are very cheap or moes around in an environment where powerful laptops are the norm.

Ok Ok I guess Core 2 Duo 1.6ghz-2.0ghz was an overstatement...

Intel Atom 1.6ghz, 1gb RAM, onboard graphics and onboard sound, 7inch screen then!

KEEP THE WARRANTY IN MIND, alot of computers are good but also crap. need warranties to keep them together.
