I'm still confused on how shiny clothing like Leather and metal are shaded. there's only so much you can do to get a metallic look
It's all about basing it on existing sprites if you want them to match the style.Metal (Bison seems to be the only character to wear any kind of armor/plating):Leather (Benimaru's gloves were the closest thing I could find):Someone asked me to try CVS shading for Seiya, so I had no choice but to use Bison as a base.
For leather - Add a line of Lightest color where the top of every surface is. KOF K' should give you an idea, or even Chun Li's thighs in stockingsFor metal - The most important thing is that usually after a light area, immediately comes a Darkest shade line, usually curve, and then the shading continues fairly normally. Graphicus' examples show this to perfection, google terms like "Metal Ball", or "Metal Armour", or use Saint Seiya artworks as a base. Also KOF Krauser follows this principle. That's all I've got
Fox is too dark, Yoshi's colors are too desaturated, Meta Knight is too dark and Wario is too awesome.
Websta said, September 11, 2013, 07:02:47 pmAxel's body proportions look very wrong. Also Krillin looks like he has an alien head. What he said. Rework Alex´s proportions and give Krillin a round head instead of an alien head, Samus seems pretty alright thought she has some jagged edges in her foots and shoulder guards.
Your Samus Aran was my favorite of them all.12345rSTREET said, September 11, 2013, 03:30:36 pmSamus AranI still think she needs more work in the shading department though.

If you want to give it a metallic look, CVS goes: light color-dark color-medium color, as opposed to clothing/skin, which goes in normal order (light-medium-dark).

I find a lot of stuff in pixel art is similar to other digital arts.
Hey guys it's me again, this time I updated Asura stance, it was difficult but now that I remember Rolento help me with this sprite and yes I was able to do the stance XD!!!
Animation looks really unnatural. It looks as if you just moved parts of the sprite.Yes, I understand that most spriters do that, but you should have taken more time to edit the animation. You should have made his head and body go up and down instead. Right now, he reminds me of a turtle hiding in its shell.
I agree, it just looks like a work-in-progess now. It's indeed very common to move parts around like that, but you're supposed to redraw them next. The only thing that actually changes is his head. And sadly it's not for the best. It's like his neck sucks his head into his body.
Asura's head changes? I honestly thought he just used Rotsprite and rotated it without any real effort.
